The wiry athletic Alonzo just continues to show well with his offensive profile in now four different live looks on the high school circuit and a strong showing at the 2024 VTA County Uncommitted Game. As I see more of Alonzo it is becoming readily apparent his high bat to ball profile with his strong feel for using his hands well in the swing to produce not only consistent contact, but consistent solid to hard contact. The approach/swing suits the profile for Alonzo well as he looks the part of a table-setter presently who runs well and use the whole field in his operation which gives him top of the order potential for the next level, but also suits being a high quality offensive piece who provides length to the backend of a lineup. Add in a versatile defensive profile that continually shows well playing defense in RF with comfort in his routes, confidence in his glove and a solid arm, but has shown a sound foundation behind the plate as a backstop (likely to take over C next year when SR. backstop graduates).
Alonzo has made the move to the OF as JR. at Buena after catching on the lower levels in 2024 and likely headed back there as a SR. next year, but his athleticism has taken well to playing RF. He moves with clean actions around the OF coming in on balls while also showing comfort playing laterally to the gap and the line with confidence. His arm is solid, but slightly stretched at this time for RF long term, but he has time to add strength as he matures adding physicality to his frame. At the plate his swing showed a looser operation from previous viewings (2024 Ventura County Uncommitted Game/Winter Baseball Scrimmage) with a cleaner path through the zone and slightly more leverage to the path. Alonzo stung a single to LF in his first at bat and came around to score, but there's still polish necessary to his approach/timing as he missed a few hittable FB later in the game. With his bat speed ticking up and a cleaner operation in the box Alonzo is headed in the right direction, but much like Trigo reaching his potential will depend on the amount of strength he can add to his frame in the future.
