3/18/26
Vanderbilt commit. Almost two weeks removed from pitching against team USA in the World Baseball Classic where Contreras garnered significant national spotlight as the youngest player to ever compete in the event at 17-years old. The senior returned home and was dominant in his start yesterday afternoon to say the least. Went 5.0 no-hit innings-pitched with 9 strikeouts en route to a run-rule victory. Physical, high-waisted 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame and exudes excellent body control with ability to repeat the delivery well, and creates excellent extension down the mound. Low-effort look with significant arm speed and works from a higher slot. Possesses a bulldog mentality on the bump with immense pitchability and feel for a deep five pitch mix. Lived in the mid-to-upper 90’s at 95-98 (T99 MPH) with some cut and ride action. Mixed in a two-seam look as well at 91-93 with sink. Sharp slider with tight action at 87-89 and kept hitters off balance. Forkball is extremely tough to pick up out of the hands and was a weapon to both RHH and LHH as it tunnels extremely well off the fastball. Falls off the table at 77-79 and flashes plus. Changeup was mixed into LHH with depth and tumble for whiffs at 82-84. The stock for Contreras continues to trend up with still plenty more to tap into and big-league bloodlines that only strengthen the profile.

Uncommitted. MLB bloodlines. Contreras got the start at 3B Wednesday night, and really showed well. Made some tough plays where he had to show off the arm strength, on some close calls. We got to see him from both sides of the plate, and really impressed. The swing doesn’t change much from the right and left side. Both being tall, slightly open with a small leg. He consistently got his foot down on time, and found the barrel in both games. Contreras is going to be a name to know in the ‘26 class, as a premier 2 way prospect moving forward.

2/17/24

Facing a veteran lineup from North Paulding, Contreras showed impressive poise and maturity on the mound with stuff to match. Uber-projectable, high-waisted 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame, the uncommitted sophomore works downhill with good extension and explosive arm speed from a near over-the-top arm slot. Fastball is heavy at 85-88 with good arm-side run and ability to land to both sides of the plate. Advanced feel for a mid-70s curveball with 11-5 shape and good depth. The ability to land for both strikes and burying it for whiffs was present. Flashed a high-70s changeup as well with good fade and spin-killing traits (1100 RPM). The upside really flashes with Contreras, who could be just starting to unlock his potential.
