RHP Carson Frerichs (Normal University, 2027) is a filled-out, long-limbed, 6-foot-3, 208-pound Frerichs gave a good look on the mound Wednesday afternoon. Working from an easy, repetitive, high kick motion, with clean, easy, arm action, from a ¾ slot. The right-hander worked with a three-pitch mix. The fastball was sitting in the mid-80s, T87 mph, with an 18.5 IVB. The curveball was 76-78 mph, featuring a 12-6 shape with hard, late break. The changeup was 79 mph, with a slight drop-off from the fastball. Frerichs was able to settle in after the first inning, showing command of his arsenal and keeping hitters off-balance.
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-2, 208.1-pounds. Tall, filled out frame with projectability.
Delivery: Easy, repetitive, high kick motion, tall and fall down the mound.
Arm Action: RH. Clean, easy, arm action, 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 82-86 mph. Firm with late ride through the zone, slight cut. T2386, 2187 average rpm.
CB: 76-78 mph. 12/6 shape, hard, late break. T2254, 1905 average rpm.
CH: 79-79 mph. Slight drop off from the FB. T1625, 1605 average rpm.
RHP Carson Frerichs (Normal University, 2027) had a loud outing in his first Prep Baseball showcase. Frerichs has a strong 6-foot-2, 203-pound frame that he uses all of on the mound. His fastball sat 84-86 mph while topping out at 86.7 mph with an average spin rate of 2218 RPM with sinking actions. His curveball showed depth as it sat 75-76 mph with a max spin rate of 2306 RPM. Frerichs rounded out his three-pitch mix with a changeup that sat in the upper-70s with an average spin rate of 1455 RPM. Frerichs is an interesting uncommitted 2027 arm that is sure to pop on some college boards.
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-2, 203-pounds.
Delivery: Fluid delivery, works with balance and direction down the mound, minimal effort at foot strike.
Arm Action: RH. Loose, clean arm action, 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 84-87 mph. Jumps out of the hand, plays well arm-side. T2274, 2219 average rpm.
CB: 75-77 mph. 11/5 shape with depth, plays low. T2307, 1984 average rpm.
CH: 78-79 mph. Arm-side fade. T1639, 1456 average rpm.
A filled-out, 6-foot-3, 188-pound frame, Frerichs had a strong day on the mound for Rhino K’s Saturday afternoon. The right-hander settled in after a rocky first and tossed five innings allowing five hits, one earned run, and two walks while striking out eight. The fastball was sitting 79-82 mph and had late glove-side run. The curveball sat 68-73 mph and after the first found its shape and consistency. Frerichs was able to dominate the zone, filling it up with both pitches. The curveball acted as a chase pitch coming off of the fastball. The righty had a smooth motion with a snappy arm to finish. Frerichs is set to have a strong rest of summer with this Rhino K’s squad.
