On July 8th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Central Illinois Summer ID at the Corn Crib in Normal, IL. 56 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.
Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Quick Hits story.
PITCHERS
RHP Carson Frerichs (Normal University, 2027) had a loud outing in his first Prep Baseball showcase. Frerichs has a strong 6-foot-2, 203-pound frame that he uses all of on the mound. His fastball sat 84-86 mph while topping out at 86.7 mph with an average spin rate of 2218 RPM with sinking actions. His curveball showed depth as it sat 75-76 mph with a max spin rate of 2306 RPM. Frerichs rounded out his three-pitch mix with a changeup that sat in the upper-70s with an average spin rate of 1455 RPM. Frerichs is an interesting uncommitted 2027 arm that is sure to pop on some college boards.

RHP Carson Frerichs (Normal University, 2027) is a projectable rising junior arm to follow.

LHP Andrew Zwemke (Oswego, 2026) impressed in his first showcase in two years. Zwemke stands out with his lean, wiry 6-foot-7, 207-pound frame with room to add strength. The left-hander operates from a simple, controlled delivery with a loose, long arm action from a ¾ slot. His height allows all of his pitches to play up, including his fastball that sat 78-80 mph with an average induced vertical break of 16 inches. He showed a slider that sat 69-71 mph with an average horizontal movement of 9.9 inches. Zwemke also flashed a changeup that sat 71-72 mph with an average spin rate of 1272 RPM.
RHP Hayden Ralston (Galesburg Area, 2026) had the loudest showing in the bullpen during the event. Ralston has an athletic 5-foot-10, 169-pound frame with plenty of room to add strength. The right-hander operates from an easy, controlled delivery with a quick, short arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 86-87 mph while topping out at 88.2 mph, which was the best in the showcase. The pitch had an average spin rate of 2395 RPM (2555 RPM max) with an average induced vertical break of 19.9 inches (23 inches max). Ralston’s curveball sat 72-75 mph with an average horizontal movement of -5.5 inches with an average induced vertical break of 1.1 inches. He also showed a changeup that sat 80-82 mph with an average spin rate of 1793 RPM with an average horizontal movement of 15.9 inches (20.8 inches max). At the plate Ralston hit the second hardest hit ball of the event (96.2 mph), ran a 6.95 60 time, and had the day’s best bat speed numbers - 80.9 mph avg, 84.4 mph max.
RHP Nic Bralts (Champaign Central, 2028) shined during the event as he showed his athleticism on the mound. Bralts has an athletic 6-foot, 167-pound frame with room to add strength. The right-hander operates from a simple, controlled delivery with a long, clean arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 81-84 mph while topping out at 85 mph, third best in the event. The pitch had an average spin rate of 2319 RPM with an average induced vertical break of 20.9 inches, showing advanced metrics across the board. Bralts also showed a slider that sat 72-75 mph with an average spin rate of 2398 RPM (2456 RPM max) with an average horizontal movement of -3.7 inches (-5.1 inches max). His changeup sat 70-72 mph while showing heavy fade with an average horizontal movement of 17.5 inches (21.5 inches max) with an average spin rate of 1736 RPM. Bralts rounded out his four-pitch mix with a sharp curveball that sat 66-68 mph with an average horizontal movement of -4.1 inches and an average induced vertical break of -4.2 inches.

RHP Brody Phillips (Arcola, 2027) is a participant of the Central Illinois Summer ID for the third straight year and has continued to improve in each appearance. Phillips has a lean 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with room to add strength. The right-hander operates from a simple, controlled delivery with a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. His fastball sat 80-82 mph while topping out at 83.1 mph, fifth best in the event. Phillips showed a curveball that sat 66-67 mph with an average horizontal movement of -3.5 inches. He rounded out his three-pitch mix with a changeup that sat 69-71 mph with a spin efficiency of 97%. Phillips started off the event by running a 6.7 60-yd, second-best of the event.
POSITION PLAYERS
MIF Parker Roop (Normal University, 2027) is a name that emerged as a high-follow in Illinois’ 2027 class after a strong showing at the Peoria Preseason ID, followed by multiple in-game looks for the Pioneers this past spring. Roop stands in a high-upside frame with long, wiry levers and plenty of room for added strength still to come at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. A left-handed hitter, he has all kinds of ease and fluidity in his swing, producing a max exit velocity of 95.6 mph (avg. 86.7 mph). He showed big improvement in his 60 time, running a 7.14 which was an increase from his 7.42 60 time in the winter. Defensively, he showed actions up the middle with a confident glove and a quality arm across the diamond (84 mph). Roop is an uncommitted name to keep an eye on the rest of his prep career.

MIF Eli Roedell (Washington, 2026) continued to look the part of an uncommitted name with upside at the Central Illinois Summer ID. He stands in a wiry 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame with plenty more room for strength to come. A switch-hitter, he showed well on both sides, showcasing an easy and loose swing with more power still to come while peaking at 93.2 mph (336’ max distance), per Trackman. There’s clear bat speed through the zone, averaging 70.8 mph, a top-5 metric from the day. A 7.14 runner, Roedell had a confident glove during the defensive portion with quality actions to pair. He’s an upside and uncommitted name in the state’s incoming senior class.

C Luke Oyler (Normal Community, 2028) made his Prep Baseball event debut this week at the Corn Crib. He impressed during his round of batting practice with his left-handed swing. Oyler had a simple swing with aggression that stayed flat through the zone, peaking at 85.7 mph with some bat speed through the zone (64.6 mph avg).

C Luke Oyler (Normal Community, 2028) is a rising sophomore catcher that showed well in his round of BP.

C Lucas Beaty (Normal Community, 2027) impressed our staff this spring for the 3rd Place finishing Ironmen, and continued to look the part at our event this past week. He’s a multi-sport athlete that plays QB in the fall, standing at 5-foot-11, 183-pounds with strength and athleticism throughout. Beaty took one of the more impressive rounds of catcher defense, showing a quick and easy transfer with throws that played on the bag. His best bullet down to second was 79 mph, and his pop time range was 1.93-2.04, the best of the event. Up the middle he showed athletic actions and a confident glove with a quality arm across the diamond (84 mph). A right-handed hitter, Beaty worked direct to the ball and produced a max exit velocity of 94 mph and a max batted distance of 368 feet. Beaty is an uncommitted name to know heading into August 1st.

1B Hayden Bates (St. Thomas More, 2027) had an all-around impressive showing at this week’s event. He stands in a hard-to-miss 6-foot-5, 161-pound frame with plenty of projection and strength to come. From the right side of the plate, Bates showcased an easy swing that worked direct to the ball while staying on the barrel consistently throughout his round. Defensively, he showed athletic actions and the ability to move around the infield with ease. Bates is an upside name to follow in the class.

MIF Michael Lucas (Glenwood, 2026) is an uncommitted name that’s returning after an injury in football. Standing in a 5-foot-8, 170-pound frame, Lucas had a quality round of batting practice. A right-handed hitter, he showed a balanced and repeatable swing that worked direct to the ball, while averaging 86 mph off the bat (89.9 mph max). During his defensive round, Lucas showed athletic actions to both sides with confident hands and a quality arm across the field. Lucas is an uncommitted follow in the class.
C Wil Karduck (St. Thomas More, 2026) and C John Martin (Eureka, 2026) are a pair of names that put up some of the day’s top batted ball numbers. Karduck had the fourth highest max exit velocity of the event (T95.6 mph, 88 mph avg), while sending his furthest hit ball 336 feet, and Martin tallied the day’s third highest max exit velocity (95.7 mph).
1B Landon Beckman (Normal University, 2027) was another name that made his Prep Baseball event debut at the Corn Crib. Standing in a strong 6-foot-2, 207-pound frame, Beckman put up the day’s loudest round of batting practice. The left-handed hitter showed an easy swing with controlled aggression, producing a max exit velocity of 102.5 mph (avg. 93 mph), both the top metrics from the event. His Blast numbers were equally as impressive, averaging 72.2 mph with his bat speed, the third highest from the event.
MIF Xander Beals (St. Anthony, 2026) is an uncommitted name that took one of the day’s best rounds of defense. Beals looked like an athlete in the outfield, moving around with confidence and ease while also showing the best arm of the day, topping out at 89 mph on his best throw to home. At the plate, he’s a right-handed hitter and showed a short path to the ball with twitch. His hardest hit ball of the day was recorded at 89.6 mph with an average bat speed of 70.3 mph. Beals also hopped on the mound and sat in the low-80s with his fastball. He’s an uncommitted name to follow in the state’s 2026 class.
