RHP Jake Matise (Mount Carmel, 2026) continues to impress with each look our staff gets on him. Showing feel for four pitches, the lean 6-foot, 190-pound righty sat 82-86 mph (T87) with his fastball that played with ride through the zone to all corners of the plate. His curveball has depth at 68-70 mph, while the slider flashes sweep at 71-72 mph. Matise rounds out his arsenal with a 76-79 mph changeup that he throws with fastball intent and displays fading action. He would go on to punch out two batters in his two innings of work. An uncommitted name who has won big games throughout his high school career and continues to perform.
RHP Jake Matise (Mount Carmel, 2026) displayed high-feel for his entire repertoire on this day. He has a smooth and athletic operation down the mound at 6-foot, 190-pounds. He sat 86-87 mph with his fastball, showing carry (avg. 17.8” IVB) and a high-feel for the strike zone (80% strikes). His best off-speed pitch was a 72-73 mph slider that played with 10/4 shape and feel for the zone (75% strikes). His curveball showed big break (avg. -17.8” IVB) from a 12/6 shape at 67-71 mph. Rounding out Matise’s arsenal was a 76-78 mph changeup that played with fade action (avg. 16” HM). Uncommitted, Matise is a name to continue to follow this spring.

RHP Jake Matise (Mt. Carmel) had a lights out showing over his two innings of work, allowing just one hit with no runs or walks, also striking out five. He filled up the zone with his three-pitch mix, starting with his fastball that played around 82-84 mph, topping out at 85 mph with some carry. He has confidence in both of his breaking balls, starting with his big-breaking over the top curveball that he can land for strikes at 65-68 mph. He also is comfortable throwing his slider often, playing with more horizontal break at 71-73 mph with feel for the zone.

Got the start Saturday morning and threw the ball well for Rawlings Tigers Chicago. Stands in at an athletic and bouncy 6-foot, 168-pound frame with more room to fill out. His delivery is easy and clean, with a loose, high ¾ arm slot to pair. Matise (Mt. Carmel, 2026) primarily featured an 82-84 mph (T85) fastball that he controlled to both sides of the plate, with the ability to miss barrels. His curveball worked in the 65-69 mph range and earned occasional whiffs, to help keep hitters off his fastball. He turned in a final line of: W, 5.1 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 9 K. Matise is an uncommitted name to continue to monitor in the state’s incoming-junior class.
Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 93 in the state. 6-foot-1, 173-pound frame, athletic with a high waist, room to add strength. The right-hander got the start for the Caravan and threw the ball well to help them claim their regional championship, firing a complete game (7IP) with just four hits allowed, one earned run, one walk and nine strikeouts. He moves well down the mound with a fluid tempo and uninterrupted arm action, getting into his legs while staying in-line and delivering his arsenal from a high ¾ window. His fastball cruised around 82-84 mph, topping out at 85 mph with the ability to move it to both sides of the plate. His curveball was his out-pitch, going to it regularly for swing/miss around 67-69 mph with 11/5 shape and feel. He also flashed a straight changeup in the mid/upper-70s. Definitely an arm to follow moving forward.
Currently ranked No. 93 in the state, Matise came on in relief for the Caravan and earned the win after a stellar showing. A loose mover at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds, Matise punched out three batters over his inning and two-thirds of work. He was able to induce weak contact and whiffs with his fastball that plays with 4-seam action at 80-83 mph, while being effective at the top of the zone. He went to a 70-73 mph changeup mostly in this look as his go-to secondary, playing with slight arm-side fade to miss barrels. Matise will be another Caravan arm to continue to follow throughout the spring. Final line: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 3 K.

Arm Action: RH. Full arm circle, clean with acceleration out front, 3/4 slot.
FB: T82, 80-81 mph. Throws downhill with some arm-side run. T2135, 2003 average rpm.
SL: 63-65 mph. Above-average feel, depth, 12/6 to 11/5 shape at times. T2168, 2000 average rpm.
CH: 71-76 mph. Maintains arm-speed, plays with fade. T1714, 1583 average rpm.
RHP/INF Jacob Matise (Mt. Carmel, 2026) is listed at a lanky 6-foot, 156-pounds that showed room to add strength as he matures. On the mound, he showed a high leg lift with a drop and drive delivery. He had a long and clean arm out of a high 3/4 slot. The freshman’s fastball sat 81-82 mph and topped out at 82.2 mph, and it was mostly straight with life out of hand. His curveball flashed a 12/6 shape with a large break that worked in the bottom of the zone, and he recorded a max spin rate of 2,228. He showed a good feel for his changeup that had sink and fade actions and the ability to locate it in and around the zone. Matise began the day by running a 7.49 in the 60-yard dash. He also had a max EV of 85 mph.

Hit: RHH. Slightly crouched, balanced stance, short stride. Handsy swing, long and loose through the zone, sneaky bat speed and jump off the barrel at times.
