Immediately stands out at a highly projectable 6-foot-6, 205-pounds with plenty more room to add strength. At the plate, the left-handed hitter showed easy power from his long-levered frame, with the ball jumping off the barrel with minimal effort up to 107 mph, averaging 96 mph. On the mound, the southpaw worked up to 91 mph with the fastball, sitting 88-90 mph with a stretch only, simple delivery with a tuck into balance point - moving into a higher over the top slot that hides the ball on the backside. The curveball showed big-breaking actions with up to -20.2” IVB, landing it in the zone per TrackMan 50% of the time, 69-70 mph. He also showed a changeup with natural fading action that he landed in the zone 75% of the time at 77-80 mph. High-ceiling two-way to follow on both sides of the ball.
Verbally committed to Notre Dame.
Currently ranked No. 32 in Illinois’ 2027 class. Coming in at a projectable 6-foot-5, 197-pound frame with strength present throughout, Rooney has been a consistent performer in front of our staff since the spring. The left-handed hitter operated from a wider, slightly open setup, showing strong hands into a compact swing with feel for the barrel. Rooney will be representing Team Select at the Future Games.
FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES:
1B/LHP Quinn Rooney (Benet) is a high-ceiling name our staff became familiar with this past spring. He has a highly projectable 6-foot-5, 196-pound frame with much more room to add strength, and his levers help him create some juice at the plate, peaking at 96 mph for his EV while averaging 91 mph. GAMEPLAY: The big left-handed hitter found some success at the plate, finishing 3-for-7 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. He handled his at-bats well with minimal chase out of the zone and the ability to handle velocity, showing a loose and easy swing with the ability to work the whole field.
FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES:
LHP Quinn Rooney (Benet) features plenty of projection in his 6-foot-5, 196-pound frame. Working exclusively out of the stretch, Rooney works in line with the plate and throws with plenty of ease out of a higher slot. During his workout, Rooney showed a feel for a pair of offerings. His fastball was living in the 85-87 mph range (T88.5), collecting swing and miss, and he also went to a 72-74 mph curveball with 1/7 bite. The southpaw was effective in his outing, walking one and striking out two in his scoreless inning of work on Saturday.
FROM 2025 FUTURE GAMES:
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 32 in the state. Projectable 6-foot-5, 197-pound frame. Started at first and hit out of the five-hole. Rooney impressed Friday afternoon as he went 2-for-3 at the plate. The left-handed hitter operates from an open stance with a small leg lift. Strong hands from a pure swing that has a whole field approach. Connected on a line drive to left field for a single in his second at-bat. Worked a walk after going down 0-2 in the count during his third plate appearance. In his final appearance, Rooney would connect on the biggest hit of the game as he drove a ball deep into right field for a two-run triple to drive in the winning runs for Benet. Launched a solo home over the right field wall on Saturday during the 3A State Final.
Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 33 in the state. Lean, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 196-pound frame. Batted second and played first base in both games for Benet. Strong left-handed hitter who was on the barrel in both games. He has a simple, flat swing that looks to keep the ball on a line, while using the whole field. He got to play the hero in game one, when he hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to go with a hard single he hit earlier in the game. He finished game two with two more hits. Rooney is also well-known for his left-handed abilities on the mound, and is a young two-way player to continue to follow in Illinois.
LHP Quinn Rooney (Benet Academy, 2027) is an intriguing arm-to-follow from the event, standing in a 6-foot-5, 197-pound frame. His fastball sat in the low-80s throughout his ‘pen, but he showed the ability to work up to 87 mph towards the end. Rooney also mixed in a curveball that showed depth at times (avg. -9.5” IVB), and a low-70s changeup with some downer action.
