RHP Ethan Groenendal (Lockport, 2026) utilized a quality two-pitch mix to punch out three batters over his two innings at the Illinois State Games. The physical 6-foot-4, 210-pound right hander works from the stretch with a simple, directional drop-and-drive delivery. Short, compact arm-action with a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 83-86 mph (T87) with ride generating swing-and-misses up in the zone. Off of that he added a splitter at 76-78 mph that killed spin and got whiffs down (avg. 1457 rpm).
Positional Profile: RHP/RHP
Body: 6-4, 210-pounds. Broad shouldered, projectable frame with some strength throughout.
Delivery: Stretch-only, simple, clean delivery, medium leg lift, drop and drive, directional.
Arm Action: RH. Short, compact, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 83-86 mph. Ride, pretty good spin, swing-and-miss up. T2376, 2115 average rpm.
CB: 64-64 mph. Flashed, downer. T1852, 1852 average rpm.
SPLT: 76-78 mph. Hard dive when down, developing feel.
Another physical right-hander to note from the day is RHP Ethan Groenendal (Lockport, 2026). Standing in at a broad-shouldered 6-foot-4, 203-pounds, Groenendal has some lean strength throughout his build with likely more to come. On the mound, he works with some pace with an athletic delivery that stays in-line, pairing with a quick arm that plays with a high ¾ release. The fastball played with mostly straight four-seam action, flashing sink at times in the 85-87 mph range. His curveball had some slurve action to it, playing at 67-69 mph with gradual break. His final offering was a splitter that he threw with fastball intent, showing downer action at 80-81 mph.
