Enzi-Yaw Otieku, Encinal Junior/Senior High (CA), 2029 Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Delivery: Higher hand set, with a slight movement that gets closer to the body, before syncing up with front leg. Sinks heavily into as he works into a drop/drive movement down the mound with a long stride. Strides slightly closed off, but allows his hips to rotate around his plant leg well and has a good feel for blocking. Works into aggressive tempo with good body control. Arm Action: RH. Works quickly with full, lengthy arm path out of the glove. Creates depth downward and works behind the back, prior to getting up to a low 3/4 release. Arm-action displays looseness and present arm speed. Shows some recoil after release. FB: T82, 78-81 mph. Gets good spin/life on the pitch, while also presenting some arm-side run. Gets swings/chase above the zone against both sides, additionally working as a back door offering to RHH. T2247, 2164 average rpm. CB: 65-67 mph. Good vertical action that works off the FB up well for called strikes. Generates whiffs/chase below the zone. T1982, 1958 average rpm. SL: 69-70 mph. Developing offering with cutter-like shape. Plays well on the outer third to RHH. Could use more polish to generate whiffs/chase away, but showcases good command. T2069, 2069 average rpm. ATH: 7.55 runner in the 60. 25.60 max vertical.

Otieku had previously participated in the NorCal Elite League scout day and was one of the top performers at that event. Going into this event, Otieku continued to put up great numbers all day and really prove why he is one of the best trending 8th graders in northern California. The 60-yd dash was around the same time as his previous one but he managed to get around a 7.40. Otieku has a shot to be a good shortstop as he gets older, he’s got quick actions and an absolute cannon to go along with an 84 MPH event best infield velocity. On the mound is where Oteku has a future because he has such a quick arm getting his fastball in the range of 78-81 MPH with an avg spin rate of 2164 and the curveball was 65-67 and a spin rate of 1958. The slider was working with some bite with a 2069 spin rate with a lot of swing and misses during the game. Encinal High School is where he will attend next year.

Otieku, a 6-foot, 166-pound athlete from the Bay Area, put together an impressive all-around performance at the event. Everything he did stood out, showcasing his athleticism and upside. He ran a 7.38-second 60-yard dash, posted a max RSI score of 1.46, and recorded a max vertical jump of 25.2 inches—one of the best in the event. Defensively, he showed above-average infield actions with a strong arm, recording an event-best 82 mph across the infield. At the plate, Otieku’s bat-to-ball skills were on display. He recorded a max exit velocity of 91.6 mph, an average EV of 84 mph, and a max distance of 290 feet. Most notably, his 75% sweet spot rate highlighted his ability to consistently find the barrel. With his athleticism and skill set, Otieku has the potential to be a legit two-way player at the next level. He and Footman, who will be attending the same school, could be a force together in the coming years. Don’t be surprised if both make an early varsity impact. Expect to hear plenty more about Otieku as the season progresses.
