On Sunday, March 2nd the Prep Baseball California staff held the Elite League Scout Day at Champion Field in Lathrop, CA. The event gave our staff an opportunity to look at some of the top rising stars prospects (2029-2030) within Elite League’s organization.

Over 50 prospects made their way to Champion Field to showcase their talents in a pro-style workout, which also included game-play.

Below you’ll find write-ups and videos on some of the day’s biggest winners.

QUICK HITS

INF JJ Adame (Cal High San Ramon, 2029)
Adame caught the attention of the Prep Baseball staff this past Sunday with his all-around athleticism. Standing at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, he showcased his tools throughout the day. During the 60-yard dash, he recorded a 7.76, a time that should improve as he continues to get stronger and mature. His RSI score was 1.0 (max), and he posted a 15.9-inch vertical jump. At the plate, Adame put together a strong BP session, recording a 62.5% sweet spot rate and a 62.5% line drive rate. His max exit velocity reached 89.5 mph, with an average exit velocity of 80.4 mph. He drove the ball to a max distance of 293 feet, averaging 210 feet, with most of his contact going up the middle. On the mound, Adame worked with a fastball/slider mix, topping out at 79.3 mph—one of the event’s best. His fastball sat at 78.6 mph with an average spin rate of 1,956 RPM, while his slider averaged 69.5 mph with 1,810 RPM of spin. A talented two-way player, Adame is set to attend California High School next year. He also stood out in game play, collecting two hits to round out an impressive showing.

C Owen Coupe (2029)
Coupe is a young and highly advanced eighth grader, having just turned 13 only two months ago, yet he doesn’t look or play like your typical middle schooler. During VALD testing, Coupe recorded a 7.59 60-yard dash, a max RSI score of 1.05, and an 18.3-inch vertical jump—one of the best at the event, which is no surprise given his position as a catcher. At the plate, he showed maturity, consistently wearing out the middle of the field and keeping the ball out of the air, despite windy conditions that made it tempting to elevate. Coupe posted a max exit velocity of 85.5 mph, with an average EV of 79.8 mph, and drove the ball 308 feet at max distance. His 66.7% ground ball rate stood out, as he repeatedly hit the ball hard on the ground. He also has a brother who attended the event, and it will be exciting to follow both of their developments as they head into high school.

OF Dash Footman (Encinal, 2029)
Another standout athlete from the Bay Area, Footman brings physicality to the field at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. During BP, he was one of the few players to leave the yard, showcasing his raw power. His max exit velocity reached 86.7 mph, with an average EV of 81.1 mph and a max distance of 315 feet, finding the sweet spot 71% of the time. While his swing can get long at times, he consistently found the barrel throughout his round. Footman also flashed his athleticism with a 7.44 60-yard dash, a max RSI score of 1.39, and a 21.5-inch vertical jump. Beyond his performance, he carried himself well throughout the event and was a respectful, easygoing presence in conversation. Best of luck to Footman as he wraps up his 8th-grade season.

INF/OF Tristan Trinidad (Serra, 2029)
Trinidad put on a strong showing during the 60-yard dash workouts this past weekend in Lathrop, California, clocking an event-best time of 7.22 seconds. What’s even more impressive is that there’s still plenty of room for improvement, and that time could drop significantly as he develops. On the jump mat, he recorded a max RSI score of 1.59 and a 22-inch vertical jump, further showcasing his athleticism. Defensively, Trinidad showed consistency in both the infield and outfield, recording a max velocity of 70 mph from both spots. While his actions are still developing, his athleticism allows him to handle both positions for now. During BP, Trinidad displayed some ability to elevate the baseball, posting a max exit velocity of 81.5 mph, an average EV of 71.5 mph, and a max distance of 219 feet, with an average launch angle of 23.4 degrees. A name to follow moving forward, Trinidad will be an interesting player to watch at future events.

OF/RHP Kyle Kelley (Destiny Christian, 2030)
Kelley arguably had one of the strongest arms at the event, standing out as one of the few 2030 grads in attendance. At 5-foot-11, 132.9 pounds, it’s exciting to imagine how much harder he’ll throw as he continues to develop, fills out his frame, and engages his lower half more efficiently. He posted a 7.75-second 60-yard dash, an RSI score of 0.76, and a max vertical jump of 14.7 inches. During BP, Kelley recorded a max exit velocity of 79.2 mph, an average EV of 72.5 mph, and a max distance of 285 feet. His 81 mph outfield velocity was the event’s best, immediately catching attention. Kelley’s fastball sat 78-81.5 mph, topping out at 82 mph, also an event best, with a max spin rate of 1,960 rpm. His curveball, sitting 62.6-63.9 mph (max spin 1,965 rpm), shows promise as a developing second pitch. It’s clear that the mound is where Kelley’s future lies, and it’s impressive to see this level of arm talent at such a young age.

OF Isaiah McIntyre (2029)
McIntyre fits the mold of a prototypical L/R leadoff hitter and center fielder, using his speed to make an impact on the game. While power isn’t his calling card, his ability to play small ball and drive the gaps makes him a valuable top-of-the-order bat. He posted a 7.37-second 60-yard dash—one of the event’s best—along with a max RSI of 1.01 and a max vertical jump of 24.5 inches. Defensively, he covers a ton of ground in the outfield, showing fluid movements laterally. His outfield velocity maxed out at 66 mph, a number that will rise as he continues to develop. At the plate, McIntyre’s short, quick left-handed swing stood out. He recorded a max exit velocity of 84.4 mph, an average EV of 74.8 mph, and a max distance of 265 feet. With his work ethic and developing skill set, he has a chance to be a true game-changer. Keep an eye on this speedy outfielder out of the Tracy area.

INF/RHP Enzi-Yaw Otieku (Encinal, 2029)
Otieku, a 6-foot, 166-pound athlete from the Bay Area, put together an impressive all-around performance at the event. Everything he did stood out, showcasing his athleticism and upside. He ran a 7.38-second 60-yard dash, posted a max RSI score of 1.46, and recorded a max vertical jump of 25.2 inches—one of the best in the event. Defensively, he showed above-average infield actions with a strong arm, recording an event-best 82 mph across the infield. At the plate, Otieku’s bat-to-ball skills were on display. He recorded a max exit velocity of 91.6 mph, an average EV of 84 mph, and a max distance of 290 feet. Most notably, his 75% sweet spot rate highlighted his ability to consistently find the barrel. With his athleticism and skill set, Otieku has the potential to be a legit two-way player at the next level. He and Footman, who will be attending the same school, could be a force together in the coming years. Don’t be surprised if both make an early varsity impact. Expect to hear plenty more about Otieku as the season progresses.

OF/LHP Darin Poquiz (Oak Ridge, 2029)
Left-handed two-way players always bring an added level of intrigue, and Darin Poquiz stood out on both sides of the ball at the event. The 5-foot-9, 145.7-pound athlete showcased his athleticism, running a 7.38-second 60-yard dash, posting an RSI score of 1.1, and recording a max vertical jump of 20.5 inches. In the outfield, Poquiz showed strong, accurate throws, reaching a max velocity of 74 mph while keeping most of his throws on a line. Offensively, he displayed a smooth left-handed swing, producing a max exit velocity of 89.9 mph, an average EV of 72.1 mph, and a max distance of 307 feet. His 66.7% line-drive rate highlighted his ability to find the barrel consistently. On the mound, Poquiz showed plenty of upside. His fastball sat between 71.8-73.6 mph, with a max spin rate of 2,047 rpm. He attacked the zone well during the gameplay portion of the workout, showing his ability to challenge hitters. With his two-way potential and smooth lefty skill set, Poquiz is definitely a name to watch as he continues to develop.
