Sheffer continues to ride the wave of a very strong last 10 months from a very good Soph. campaign on the varsity level at Oaks Christian HS into a strong summer including an outstanding showing at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games and right into a commitment to Oklahoma State. He is ranked as the number 1 catcher in the state of California for the 2026 class and inside the top 20 while sitting amongst the Top 5 catchers nationally and arguably can be considered the best defensive catcher of the class.
The workout was a solid one for Sheffer although highlighted more for the showing he had during the defensive portion of the workout than the offensive portion. During BP he showed a quick rotational turn with aggressive hips and emerging bat speed to go with a bat path that is staying through the contact zone more efficiently allowing him to create harder contact in the air. Some of the changes to the swing and increases in bat speed he has shown have come with some inconsistency to the approach/timing at the plate making his offensive profile one showing more potential than present polish, but he is headed in the right direction. When the workout shifted to INF-OF the top end arm strength was on display as he uncorked 1.86-1.93 throws to 2B with low online carry at the hips or below to the INF at the bag, as well his throws to 3B had easy life and carry to the knees or below for the 3B receiving them.
During the game play portion of the day he had two at bats and much like the workout his defense garnered present ability than the offensive side. In two at bats he struck out versus Kai Bratton on a sharp SLD that bite back over the plate and then made solid contact against Rylan Howe in his second plate appearance, but on the ground right at the SS for a 6-4-3 double play. Behind the plate he was very sound with mobility in his hips/lower half to get low into a one knee set up and the smooth glove/wrist strength to pull borderline pitches into the zone with clean pitch presentation he was in my opinion the best receiver behind the plate on the day. Sheffer is athletic and agile being able to block well on pitches between his shoulders and able to move laterally to get to pitches outside the shoulders. The top end arm strength he possesses is a true weapon against opposing teams and he is willing to use it at any point, including a rocket backpick throw to 2B working with Alex Harrington that narrowly missed nailing the runner at 2B.
A strong to impact potential defender at a premium defensive spot like catcher which can arguably be considered the most important defensive position on the field gives Sheffer plenty of intrigue for the 2026 class. But, ultimately how high his ceiling rises will come down the overall development of his offensive profile and the strength he can add to a wiry athletic frame.

The 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games alum and Oklahoma State Commit came into the event as the highest ranked player in attendance and once again he showed why. Wiry athletic in his build Sheffer is starting to add more strength as he is maturing. Widely regarded as maybe the best arm behind the plate in the '26 class both in California and potentially nationally Sheffer took the profile to another level by reaching 86 MPH on his C throws (new personal best) and was as low at 1.86 during the workout (another personal best), plus for good measure made an outstanding backhand pick on a spiked FB into a clean quick transfer to hose a runner at 2B during the game play portion. The added strength to his frame comes with increases in the quality of his RH swing/contact during batting practice as he was up to 22.5 MPH on his hand speed and 85.6 MPH on his bat speed (both personal bests) while posting both a 63% sweet spot/hard hit rate during batting practice.
