I was able to get my first look at Fien after seeing he’s been off to a scorching start in 2025. Coming into league play, he was hitting .476 with a team high 20 RBIs all while hitting out of the lead off spot for the Pumas. He followed that up with a HR to start the game for CHS in the bottom of the first inning. He drove a FB the opposite way for a HR that left the yard with plenty of carry over the wall. It was his 2nd homer of the season which is a team high for Chaparral. Later in the 5th inning, in a 1-1 tie, he doubled down the LF line that put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Two batters later, CHS scored on a ground ball that found a hole with the infield playing in, all created by Fien’s double that started the rally for the Pumas. Fien looks confident when he’s in the batter's box and he doesn’t get cheated on pitches in the zone. He hunts mistakes and does damage when he gets them. It will be interesting to see as Southwestern League play continues to unfold this week and beyond, if teams will start pitching to Fien more carefully because he only has 1 BB in 2025. With Fien empowering the offense at the top, it may be wise for teams to try and attack the CHS lineup differently and have someone else other than Fien beat them because he has been so successful a little over a third of the way through this season. With Chaparral off to a hot start at 9-3 in 2025, it has been an underclass sophomore providing major contributions for a team that has high hopes to make a run this year in CIF. Fien’s updated numbers after the win are: .489/.500/.822 with 5 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 2 HRs, 21 RBIs, 16 Rs, and 11 SBs.
