Southeastern commit, Awbrey hit a go-ahead three-run HR in the 5th inning vs. Illini West securing the win. Finished the week 3-for-6 with three walks, a homer, four RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base. Also pitched 0.1 innings allowing no runners, closing the game against Galesburg.
The Southeastern CC commit had an all around impressive week, at the plate, was 11-for-17 on the week, recording one walk, three doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 RBIs, seven runs and two stolen bases. The right-hander started on the mound in their 10-2 win against Lena-Winslow, throwing 5.2 innings only allowing one hit, one run, no walks, and 11 strikeouts.
Verbally committed to Southeastern CC.
INF Gavin Awbrey (Orion) continues to add strength to his 6-foot, 190-pound frame. The right-handed hitter showed well during game play, finishing the week 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs. He showed a direct path to the ball with a mostly flat stroke, barrelling balls to the pull-side. During the showcase he posted a max exit velocity of 91.8 mph, and he sent his farthest hit ball 358 feet.
Positional Profile: 2B/SS
Body: 6-0, 192-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Tall, narrow setup, small leg lift into long stride. Simple, controlled, slightly uphill path, works the pull-side with line drives. 69 mph bat speed with 6 G’s of rotational acceleration. Finished 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 79.8 mph. 358’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. Short arm action, 3/4 slot, drops down on DP, loose action.
Defense: Fluid footwork with timing, soft hands that work out front, clean transfer, long strides with range.
Run: 7.32 runner in the 60.
Uncommitted. Awbrey had an impressive performance in the Pioneers’ 8-7 win over Bureau Valley, going a perfect 4-for-4, and hitting for the cycle, tallying four RBIs and three runs scored. He also threw two innings on the mound in relief, striking out five and allowing one hit. He earned the save on the mound in their 7-3 win over Rock Falls, striking out five and walking two in three innings of work. At the plate, he finished the week 8-for-12 with one home run, one triple, four doubles, eight RBIs, seven runs scored and three stolen bases (.667 AVG/.750 OBP/1.417 SLG).
MIF Gavin Awbrey (Orion, 2025) and OF Jordan Ortega (Chicago Hope, 2025) are two incoming juniors that showed some upside potential. Awbrey is a projectable 6-foot-1,175-pound prospect with room to grow. When on time and in rhythm, Awbrey was on the barrel with his quick and direct swing. Ortega, sent his farthest ball 309 ft., consistently recorded mid-80s exit velocities, and flashed feel for the barrel.

Hit: RHH. Stock setup, slightly open stance, small leg lift, short stride. Direct, flat path, line drives up the middle when in rhythm, all fields approach. 60.6 mph bat speed with 7 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 76.7 mph. 278’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Short arm action, low 3/4 slot.
Defense: Two-hand gather out front, fluid actions, fields ball to body, clean transfer.
Run: 7.91 runner in the 60.
The Sophomore put together an impressive week, helping the Chargers go 2-1. Awbrey went 6-for-10 (.600 BA/ .667 OBP/1.300 SLG/1.967 OPS) with a home run, triple, two doubles, nine RBIs, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases on the week. In their 8-6 win over Sherrard, Awbrey went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. In their 14-4 win over Bureau Valley, he went 2-for-4 with a triple, double, five RBIs, and two runs scored.
