IHSA Diamond Notes: Week 6

Each week, IHSA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Illinois Pitcher of the Week honors. Yesterday, we awarded the Week 6 Player of the Week honor to INF Josh Fleming (York, 2025; Grand Valley State) and the Pitcher of the Week honor to RHP Austin Musso (Mascoutah, 2025; Arizona State). The senior infielder went 10-for-16 with three home runs, one triple, two doubles, eight RBIs, 10 runs scored, two walks and one stolen base. Musso, the big right-hander toed the rubber Monday afternoon and helped take down Highland by the score of 7-0, firing a complete-game shutout with only two hits allowed, 17 strikeouts and just one walk.

There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.

WEEK 6 DIAMOND NOTES

+ Enzo Infelise, C (Providence Catholic, 2025; Cincinnati):
The Cincinnati recruit had an impressive week at the plate for Providence. Infelise had a hit in all four games last week, finishing the week 9-for-16 with three homers, eight RBIs, four runs, and a walk.


+ Luke Yolich, SS (Whitney Young, 2025):
Uncommitted, Yolich was seeing the ball well last week out of the three hole for Whitney Young. The infielder had six hits in 13 ABs with a double, triple, homer, five RBIs, four runs, and two walks.


+ Jack Goergen, RHP (Hersey, 2025):
Uncommitted, Goergen made two appearances on the week, getting two wins, both in relief. The right-hander came in relief against Elk Grove in Hersey’s 6-4 win, tossing five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk, and five strikeouts. In the Huskies 6-5 win over Mundelein, Goergen threw seven innings out of relief allowing one run on two hits, three walks, and struck out seven. A quality week out of the bullpen for the senior.


+ Collin Lawlor, LHP (Marist, 2028):
Uncommitted, the freshman southpaw made an impact last week for Marist as he made two appearances on the mound, starting against Benet, Lawlor went 6.2 innings, allowing just one run (unearned), four hits, walked one, and struck out nine. Against Brookfield Central, Lawlor came out of the pen and threw an inning allowing no baserunners and struck out one.


+ Karlos Otero, SS (Romeoville, 2025; Lewis):
The Lewis commit was a huge piece of a 4-0 week for Romeoville both offensively and defensively. Otero finished the week with six hits in 12 ABs, with two walks, three doubles, six RBIs, seven runs, and four stolen bases.


+ Brodey VanHooser, RHP (Lincolnwood, 2026):
Uncommitted, VanHooser had an impressive start on the mound against Greenfield/Northwestern. In Lincolnwood's 1-0 win, the right-hander tossed seven innings, allowing no runs, two hits, and struck out 11 of the 27 batters faced.


+ Kannon Kamp, 2B, RHP (Father McGivney, 2025; SIUE):
The Edwardsville commit tossed a complete game against the SWC leader Belleville East allowing no earned runs, four hits, two walks, and struck out five. Kamp also had a nice week at the plate for No. 10 Father McGivney, finishing 8-for-13 with three walks, three doubles, five RBIs, six runs, and two stolen bases.


+ Joey Arend, OF/LHP (St. Charles East, 2025; Xavier):
The Xavier recruit, Arend went 2-0 on the mound this week, both conference wins vs Wheaton North and Lake Park. The southpaw threw eight innings on the week, allowing only two hits combined (two hits vs Wheaton North, no hits vs Lake Park) and struck out 17 batters combined. His Batting Average Against (BAA) for the week was .067. Allowed two earned runs and no walks.


+ Josh Holst, P/1B (Libertyville, 2025):
One of the top uncommitted seniors in the state threw a complete game shutout against Mundelein with 14 strikeouts, no walks, and only allowed five hits. At the plate was one for three with an RBI single in the first inning of this game.


+ Brady Green, MIF (Oak Park-River Forest, 2025; Bucknell):
The Bucknell commit was hot at the plate last week finishing with eight hits in 12 at bats, along with three walks, two doubles, a homer, nine RBIs, six runs, and six stolen bases.


+ Alex Popham, RHP (Wheaton North, 2026):
Uncommitted, the right-hander tossed eight innings allowing no runs and just one hit, no walks, striking out ten. The only hit came in the 8th inning on an infield single. Popham tossed eight innings on 93 pitches.


+ Patrick Connors (Hinsdale Central, 2026)
Uncommitted, in a four game stretch Connors had eight hits in sixteen ABs with nine stolen bases. Also threw three innings on the mound allowing just one hit and no runs.


LOCKPORT

Lockport went 3-0 last week, defeating Stagg (3-18) twice, and Morris (13-6). Below were some of their top performers.

+ Bryce Flood, INF (Lockport, 2025; MSOE):
The MSOE commit had a strong week offensively for Lockport. Flood had 4 hits in eight ABs across three games, including two doubles, three walks, two RBI's, five runs scored, and four SB's.

+ David Kundrat, OF (Lockport, 2026):
Uncommitted, Kundrat had another big week, going 6-for-10 at the plate scoring four runs, had two stolen bases, and was perfect in center.

+ Joey Dalponte, INF/RHP (Lockport, 2025; Purdue-Northwest):
The Purdue-Northwest commit was valuable both offensively and on the mound for the Porters this past week. Dalponte had four hits with two runs, and three SB. On the mound, he collected a hold against Morris while throwing two perfect innings with a K.

+ Adam Kozak, OF (Lockport, 2026):
Uncommitted, Kozak had a productive week offensively. He had four hits on the week, with a triple, four RBI's, two runs, and two stolen bases.

+ Martin Kinnane, (Lockport, 2026):
Uncommitted, Kinnane had a quality start against Stagg, logging four innings, allowing no runs, one hit, one strikeout, and two walks.


BATAVIA

+ Brandon Oke, C (Batavia, 2027):
Uncommitted, over five games, Oke went 9-for-16 with two walks while also throwing out 4 runners on the basepaths. He went 2-for-3 vs. Lincoln Way Central and 4-for-4 in Game 2 vs. St. Charles North.

+ Justin Enger, LHP (Batavia, 2025):
Uncommitted, in eight innings of work on the week, Enger allowed no runs, collecting five K’s and allowing six hits. In his first season start vs. Wheaton North on Saturday, April 26, the southpaw tossed seven innings allowing no runs, collected five K’s, and allowed only five hits.

+ Connar Temple, RHP (Batavia, 2025; Northern Illinois):
The NIU commit Temple allowed one earned run in six innings of work in his start against St. Charles North, allowed six hits, two walks, and struck out six.


NEUQUA VALLEY

Neuqua Valley went 4-0 on the week, defeating Metea Valley (10-13) three times, and Plainfield East (6-16-1). Below were some of their top performers.

+ Josh Repmann, RHP/1B (Neuqua Valley, 2027):
Uncommitted, Repmann tossed 5.1 innings against Metea Valley and recorded his first varsity win as a Wildcat. He allowed four earned runs, one walk, eight hits, and two strikeouts in a 12-7 win over Metea Valley to clinch the series. Josh also had five hits in eight at-bats with a double, two RBIs, and two runs during the week, including a 3-for-3, two RBI day in a 6-3 , game three win over Metea.

+ Mike Langan, SS/RHP (Neuqua Valley, 2025):
Uncommitted, the right-hander went the distance in the third game of the series against Metea Valley. In seven innings, Langan had seven Ks, two BB, two HBP while allowing 0 earned runs for his 3rd win of the year. At the plate, had five hits, including two doubles and a triple, three RBIs, and four runs.

+ Andy Barkley, LF (Neuqua Valley, 2026):
Uncommitted, Barkley made a game-saving, sliding catch in the top of the 7th with runners on 1st and 2nd to save two runs in the Wildcats 2-1 win (eight innings) over Plainfield East. Had four hits on the week in 11 ABs, with six walks, a double, triple, three RBIs, and four runs.

+ Emmitt Briner, RHP (Neuqua Valley, 2027):
Uncommitted, Briner turned in his best varsity performance of the year to date, battling for seven innings while allowing four hits and one unearned run in the Wildcats 2-1, eight inning win over Plainfield East. Briner had seven strikeouts while walking three and hitting one batter.

+ Jack Martin, RHP (Neuqua Valley, 2025):
Uncommitted, Martin tossed six innings and got his first win of '25 in the series opener vs. Metea Valley. He allowed six hits, three runs (one earned), while striking out two, walking two, and hitting two batters.


FREEPORT

Freeport went 5-0 on the week, defeating Boylan Catholic (8-14-1) twice, Jefferson (3-10) twice, and Mather (6-7). Below were some of their top performers.

+ Cameron Verner, OF/RHP (Freeport, 2025):
Uncommitted, Verner had one of the most impressive weeks in the state. Verner had 13 hits in 18 at bats including a walk, three doubles, six triples, 12 RBIs, 14 runs, and four stolen bases. Also, made an appearance on the mound throwing one inning on Saturday, striking out two and allowing no runners.

+ Russell Butitta, RHP (Freeport, 2025; Kishwaukee JC):
Kishwaukee commit, Butitta made two appearances on the week. Getting the start against Jefferson, tossing a six inning complete game, allowing no runs, five hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Made a relief appearance against Boylan Catholic, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing no runs, one hit, no walks, and struck out one.


ALTON

+ Alex Pilger, RHP/OF (Alton (Sr.), 2026):
Uncommitted, After making a nice sliding catch in RF to end a scoring threat, Pilger picked up the game-winning RBIs with a 2-run single in the 5th of the Redbirds' 3-0 win over Southwestern Conference front-runner Belleville (East). He then stepped up big the next day with 4.1 IP out of the bullpen allowing just two hits, one walk, no runs, and struck out two against Highland.

+ Anderson Kaufmann, RHP/UT (Alton (Sr.), 2028):
Uncommitted, Anderson pitched five innings of shutout baseball in this week's Southwestern Conference matchup with Belleville (East) for his 2nd SWC win, moving to 5-0 on the season. The right-hander allowed no runs, three hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts.


ALLEMAN

Alleman finished the week 2-1, splitting the series with Galesburg (10-13), and defeating Illini West (17-7). Below were some of their top performers.

+ Gavin Awbrey, SS/RHP (Alleman, 2025; Southeastern CC):
Southeastern commit, Awbrey hit a go-ahead three-run HR in the 5th inning vs. Illini West securing the win. Finished the week 3-for-6 with three walks, a homer, four RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base. Also pitched 0.1 innings allowing no runners, closing the game against Galesburg.

+ Cael Kuster, C/UTIL (Alleman, 2025):
Uncommitted, the senior had a nice week offensively, going 3-for07 with two walks, five runs, and three stolen bases out of the leadoff spot.
