IHSA Diamond Notes: Week 2
April 2, 2025
Each week, IHSA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Illinois Pitcher of the Week honors. Earlier today, we awarded the Week 2 Player of the Week honor to SS Landon Thome (Nazarath Academy, 2026) and the Pitcher of the Week honor to RHP Ryan Schaffnit (Morton, 2025; Bradley). Thome helped Nazarath to a 4-0 clip this past week, finishing the stretch going 7-for-9 with two home runs, two triples, two doubles, five RBIs, seven runs scored and four stolen bases. Schaffnit fired a seven inning gem to help the Potters take down Tremont 2-0, earning Schaffnit his second ‘Pitcher of the Week’ award of the young spring.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
