We've closed the book another successful high school spring and before we flip the page to the summer, our staff has updated and expanded the Class of 2025 Player Rankings. Our staff has been out in full-force covering games throughout the spring with nearly 200 games attended and over 100 teams seen during the high school season. Many prospects have boosted their stock over the course of the last few months and some new names have popped onto the recruiting scene.

As always, the evaluation process is a fluid and ongoing process with multiple viewings in order to get the best feel for players abilities. It’s important to note that as players continue their development some show marked improvement at a much more rapid pace. That doesn’t indicate that other players got worse or went backwards, it’s just how player development works. As the year unfolds, players make improvements and new prospects pop up on the radar expanding the Prep Baseball rankings universe.  In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in Alabama and nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review our individual lists and then make adjustments based on what we've each seen.

The Top-10 in the Class of 2025

+ No. 1: 3B/RHP Caleb Barnett (Mountain Brook, 2025)

From 4/19/24: " ... continues to distance himself from his peers at the top of the list in the 2025 class in Alabama due to his elite two-way capabilities and long & projectable 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame. An Alabama recruit, Barnett is currently the top-ranked prospect in the junior class in Alabama and lived up to the billing offensively in the first game of a three-game playoff series. Slotted in the heart of the order, the right-hander, who was dealing with some discomfort in the lower-half, still showed the ability to make an impact in the designated hitter spot while not being at 100%. Hitting from an upright stance with good balance and fluidity through the swing, Barnett can really impact the baseball at a high level with one of the higher combinations of hit/power upsides in his class. While having such long levers, he still does a really good job of staying short and direct to the point of contact with not much wasted movement pre-pitch, and displays some above-average bat speed and can change planes, as well. He was seemingly on the barrel throughout the whole contest, as he laced a missile into the RCF gap in his first at-bat, walked in his next at-bat, and capped it off with a mammoth home run to LF in the 7th inning to pull his team closer. He carries a real presence to the right-hander's box and has an advanced approach with ability to recognize spin well. Also hopped on the mound in Game 2 in a must-win spot and delivered a complete-game effort, and was also intentionally-walked in all four plate appearances in the deciding Game 3."

+ No. 2: 3B/RHP Ma'Kale Holden (Thompson, 2025)

From 5/2/24: " ... has produced all year for the Warriors, including a walk-off Grand Slam that propelled them to the 7A Elite 8 and he continued those ways last weekend in a two-way role The Alabama recruit has easy juice in the barrel as the ball comes off the barrel differently than the normal high school player. The front side is simple as he simply gets the foot down early and the barrel follows through the hitting zone on a slightly uphill plane. The 6-1, 203-pounder works the hands directly to contact with carry and backspin to the pull side. Holden doubles as a premium arm that was up to 93 mph in his Game 2 start in which the Warriors were able to win. Working from a higher 3/4 slot and a lightning quick arm, Holden showed a solid 2-pitch mix. The fastball was 88-91 mph (T93) with late sink that he was able to locate well to the gloveside. The breaking ball (73-76 mph) is a major weapon with late depth showing more 12/6 shape. The delivery was clean and efficient as he used his powerful lower half well working down the mound."

+ No. 3: OF Eric Hines (American Christian, 2025)

From 4/19/24: " ... showed why he is the top available uncommitted prospect in the 2025 class in Alabama, as he impressed in every facet of his game. The three-sport star already looks the part at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds while also looking like a high-level center fielder as he continually got great reads off the bat and truly covered gap-to-gap. The advanced read off of the bat, partnered with the ability to run balls down make it look easy for him defensively. The current arm strength is adequate and will continue to develop over the years. Offensively, Hines shows electric bat speed with an uphill bat path and simply makes it look easy in the box. The operation is simple as he is simple on the front side with a short, controlled load of the hands. Hines possesses plenty of explosiveness and quick twitch to his offensive profile, and is a threat to leave the yard each time he steps in the box. He can get to pitches on the inner-half, but is also disciplined enough to hammer balls to the back-side on pitches on the outer-half. The home run he hit in Game 2 was a no-doubter over the RCF fence on a pitch on the outside part of the plate. He averaged a double-double in basketball this season, and is also a standout WR/FS recruit on the gridiron. While he is not a finished product at all on the diamond, the advanced athleticism and ease at which he does things make him a high-level follow in the 2025 class in Alabama."

+ No. 4: RHP Fleming Hall (Trinity Presbyterian, 2025)

From 8/30/23: " ... an Auburn recruit, Hall bursted onto the scene during his freshman campaign in 2022, where he helped lead Trinity Presbyterian to the Class 3A State Championship. After being sidelined on the mound for the majority of the last couple of springs, the right-hander flashed some electric stuff at the Area Code Games last summer, where he worked 90-92 mph and used a short slider in the low-80's. Really athletic arm with competitive traits."

+ No. 5: OF Damien Gatson (Mobile Christian, 2025)

From 2/27/24: " ... is one of the athletes in the state of Alabama and was seemingly on the barrel from the first pitch of the weekend, as he was a consistent run-producer and table-setter in the leadoff spot for the Leopards. Listed at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, the South Alabama recruit looks much stronger currently with elite-level athleticism to pair. Another PBR Future Games alumni, Gatson really handled the bat well from the left side all weekend long, as he posted a .500 batting average (9-for-18) with a double, three RBI's, and two stolen bases. He is super twitchy with some current proportional strength to the frame, and showcased some of the best barrel accurary we've seen from him during this weekend's extended viewing. After legging out an infield single and going 3.94 on home-to-1st on Day 1, Gatson recorded six total hits on Saturday, and was not afraid to use the opposite field. Hitting from a balanced, athletic stance, the junior utilizies a controlled load that slots the hands higher, and allows him to lead a knob-led path through the zone with above-average bat speed that consistently yields firm contact. While the hit and speed are currently the carrying tools, we wouldn't be surprised to see him hit for a higher volume of power output in the future as he continues to develop into his frame. Elite multi-sport prospect who led the Leopards to a Class 5A State Champinship in football as the quarterback."
