Prep Baseball Scout Day: Quick Hits - Georgia Jackets

Alpharetta, GA: On May 19th the Prep Baseball Georgia staff hit the road to American Legion field in Alpharetta to host the Georgia Jackets Scout Day. Players from the 2025-2027 class were in attendance in to showcase their ability ahead of the 2024 summer season. 

Today, we will take a look at some instant standouts from Sunday.

Quick Hits

Seth Pettett, 2025, UTL, Sequoyah
Uncommitted. Pettett is a player that we have had the chance to watch develop over the years. He continues to progress in all parts of his game. He can play any position on the field, and can be a primary back stop at the next level. He posted an event best 1.95 pop time, and had a consistent BP round producing a heavy line drive round. His talent plays up in game, and is a leader on the field that will be able to make an impact at the next level.

Jack Powell, 2026, RHP/3B/Denmark
Uncommitted. We were able to see Powell out of the pen for Denmark this spring. He was able to log valuable innings that will be key for a successful junior campaign next year. The 6-foot-2 frame has limitless possibilities with clean and efficient both at the plate and on the mound. The fastball was low 80's and could really spin the breaking ball. He has power potential from the left side, and will be one to follow into the summer and next spring. 


Jack Nelson, 2025, RHP, Adairsville
Uncommitted. Nelson is coming off a huge spring as the #1 for Adairsville. We knew the metrics were going to stand out by just seeing him this spring, so we were excited to see his trackman numbers. The slider is what stood out the most with 2800, coming out of the same ¾ slot as the fastball. The delivery has some deception in it, throwing off hitters' timing. He does a great job throwing all 3 pitches out of the same slot, and utilizes tunneling really well. The fastball 83-84 after a playoff run, and over 60 innings pitched. Nelson will be a good follow headed into the summer on a strong Georgia Jackets National team.

 
Luc Oates, 2027, OF/LHP, Pinewood Christian
Oates made an early impression during BP on Sunday. The event took place at one of the bigger parks in the state, and the freshman had the lone swing where the ball left the year. The swing was effortless from the left side with present strength in the frame. He also hopped on the mound and sat in the upper 70’s with feel for 3 pitches, and clean actions. Oates is going to be a freshman to follow with real power potential in the swing.

Bryce Roberts, 2027, C, Colquitt County
Our first look at Roberts and he really impressed. The swing was smooth and compact from the left side, producing easy barrels He had a max exit velocity of 89.4, and a max distance of 334ft. Behind the plate he produced a low 2.0 pop time, and catcher velocity of 76. He had a strong freshman season at Colquitt County earning all region honors.

 
Bowen Derosso, 2027, OF/RHP, Colquitt County
Derosso has been a name to know in the 2027 class for the last year or so. We had a chance to see him in the fall, but were excited to see him after a full season of varsity baseball. He made an impact both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate he produced a max exit velocity of 92.4 and a max distance of 344ft. He has present strength, and strong frame to continue to build on. On the mound he has a short arm action that packs a bunch with a fastball in the low 80’s. He had feel for 3 pitches, and will be a name to follow in the 2027 class.

Geno Goralski, 2026, OF, Denmark
Coming off of a tremendous spring campaign where the uncommitted outfielder hit nearly .500 while playing an above-average center field, Goralski put together one of the more complete rounds of BP on the day. Staying balanced with great length and leverage through the zone, Goralski was able to find barrels regularly while creating backspin with ease. Found multiple 90+ exit velocities with a max of 96.0 while using the whole field. The All-sophomore member is checking many boxes heading into a highly important summer season.

Samford Halcomb, 2025, OF, North Gwinnett
An eye-opening spring season for Halcomb has made the outfielder one of the more intriguing uncommitted prospects in the state. Day started hot for the multi-sport athlete with an impressive 6.7 60 on a very slow track in Alpharetta, flashing a strong first step with ability to hit top speed quickly. Halcomb would live on the barrel throughout his round of BP, showing explosive bat speed in a tight window with easy carry to the pull-side. The outfielder is a dynamic defender in CF already and with the strides the bat has made, looks like a surefire power five outfielder as we head to the summer.

David Bowman, 2027, 3B, Milton
First look for me personally at Bowman, and instantly was impressed with the maturity in the swing. Simple actions with good body control and ability to stay through the ball very well. Linear bat path leads to consistent line-drive with some thump in the barrel, Max EV 92.7. Good footwork in the dirt with present above-average arm strength across (84) and paired with a strong 6-foot-0, 190-pound frame could give Bowman long-term potential at the hot corner. The freshman will be on my watch list this summer.

Mason Holgerson, 2025, C/OF, Milton
Another strong showing from another Milton bat on Sunday as Holgerson put together one of the best overall rounds of BP. With a lean, high-waisted 6-foot-2 frame, the uncommitted backstop does a good job keeping his hands back to create quality separation before exploding through the zone with a steeper bat path. Everything off the barrel was loud, with an average exit velocity of 94.2, Max 99.0 and the third-best max distance of the day at 355ft. Solid arm strength shown behind the plate as well with low-2.1 pop times.

Charles Chappelle, 2026, OF, Dalton
Chappelle made a statement in our first look this spring with a massive HR over the scoreboard in a playoff game and followed it up with an electric showing on Sunday. Utilizing a high handset, the uncommitted outfielder shows electric hand speed and feel for the barrel that lead to consistent hard-hit ropes throughout his round. Generated both the highest exit velocity at 101.5 as well as the longest batted ball at 365ft. Chappelle has athletic actions in the outfield with solid arm strength showing.
