Counting Down to the 2026 Super 60
January 5, 2026

We’re just one month away from Prep Baseball’s 24th edition of its perennial Super 60 Pro Showcase, which is set for Sunday, Feb. 1, and this year’s roster will surely reignite the draft circuit after the dormant offseason. The 2026 roster features more of the top-ranked players in the country than ever before, and from an even wider range of states across the country, as well as Canada – from New Mexico to New Jersey and many more states in between, this year’s event should be a robust one.
Still some 30 days away, we’re tossing coal into the hype train early to better put into perspective the caliber of talent inside this group that’s scheduled to appear in the Chicagoland area at the start of February.
The Super 60 has genuinely evolved into a key event along the MLB Draft track, especially over the past few years. From the event’s 2024 roster, players in attendance earned a Super 60 record of over $17 million in signing bonuses at that draft later that same summer. In 2025, three members of the Super 60’s roster went on to become top-100 picks, including the No. 8 overall selection.
And that’s helped stir some buzz organically for 2026’s version.
2026 ROSTER, AT A GLANCE
Here’s a little breakdown of the talent currently registered for the 2026 Super 60, as of Jan. 5:
- 6 players ranked inside the Class of 2026 National Top-50
- 14 players ranked inside the Class of 2026 National Top-75
- 20 players ranked inside the Class of 2026 National Top-100
- 26 players ranked inside December’s Draft HQ Top-200 update
- 10 players ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect from their home state or province (IN, NM, WI, NC, LA, NE, IA, and UT; as well as Ontario and Alberta)
- 26 states and two Canadian provinces are represented
What’s intriguing about this year’s roster – and something that the Super 60 has excelled at in recent years especially – is supply area scouts and decision-makers in attendance with players deserving of extra attention in the spring. The event has been a jumping off point for players like Kash Mayfield (Elk City HS, OK), who leapt into the back of the first round in 2024 aided by a breakout performance at that year’s Super 60. And a similar story can be told regarding Blake Wolters (Mahomet-Seymour HS, IL) the year prior. And just last year, catcher Taitn Gray (Dallas Center-Grimes HS, IA) authored one of the loudest offensive performances in the event’s history, helping him become the No. 86 pick in the Draft.
These are players who didn’t necessarily enter the Super 60 as the top-ranked players on the roster, but they certainly looked the part at the event and then in front of professional scouts in the months that followed.
Before we talk breakout candidates, here’s a snapshot of the top-ranked players overall, currently set to attend this year's showcase.

Sean Dunlap C / Crown Point, IN / 2026National Rank: No. 22 "I saw Dunlap lineup against Javy Carrera in an early season matchup, and it was great to see our No. 1 ranked prospect in the class versus velocity early in the spring. He took quality trips through throughout the night - highlighted by a pair of free passes, and a scolded double down the LF line. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound Tennessee recruit hunts pitches with aggression, looking to do damage, and manipulates his setup in order to do so. I have seen several good hitters early in the season, but Dunlap's bat speed surpasses them all. The swing is big at times - causing some direction issues, but that is to be expected with the offensive profile that he provides. He turned in a 6.69 at our Preseason All-State and some explosiveness out of the box in this look. The primary catcher played RF on this day, tracking well out there, and it is a solid secondary position for him." – Cooper Trinkle, Indiana Scouting Director (4/7/25) |
|
Ethan Bass SS / Glenbrook North, IL / 2026National Rank: No. 24 "If the scouting community is looking for a recent comparison, Bass’ athletic profile and astounding athleticism aligns well with ‘25 top prospect, Coy James (NC). The 6-foot-1, 185-pound shortstop/center fielder is a dynamic athlete who has added athletic strength and produces loud outputs thanks to some freaky tools that include electric hand and bat speed from a multi-faceted setup. Bass went 4-for-11 with a home run and four RBI (3K) at the NPI and is clearly a prospect that should be followed incessantly over the next year. There is some inconsistency to the bat path, at times, but the overall swing has made considerable advancements since his showing at the Prep Baseball All-American Game in September, and his athletic profile and versatility warrant multiple looks." – Shooter Hunt, VP of Scouting (6/19/25) |
|
Anthony Del Angel 3B / Cleveland, NM / 2026National Rank: No. 33 "At 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, there might not be a more pristine frame in the class, and while he is presently lean and athletic, the square-shoulders and high-waist should add impressive strength over time, which will only add to the already eye-opening power outputs. Crouched from the right side with a hitchy, deeper load, it felt like there would be no chance for the New Mexico native to find success in the box, but nearly each time, the electricity jumped out of the barrel in surprising fashion. The hand and bat speed are noticeable as the plane works uphill, and a growing track record of in-game success can no longer be ignored. There is hit/power potential, and Del Angel played hard at all times throughout the week. Metrically speaking, he is advanced in analytics and athleticism, so a deeper follow is warranted over the next 24 months." – Shooter Hunt, VP of Scouting (8/5/24) |
|
Dominic Santarelli 1B / St. Joseph, WI / 2026National Rank: No. 41 "... continues to elevate his prospect status each time we see him, and it was no different this past weekend. Already one of the top bats in the country for his class, Santarelli has added more impact and athleticism over the winter. Leading the event with a 6.74 run-time, improving from his previous 7.32 time. At the plate, the physical left-hander looks like a more explosive version of himself at 6-foot-1, 230-pounds. Bat-to-ball and quality of contact stand out for Santarelli, with the innate feel to leverage the ball in the air, the impact was evident throughout the round with an average exit velocity of 102.3 mph while topping out at 108.6 mph. Santarelli comes with a history of performing and made a statement this weekend, reaffirming his status as one of the top bats in the country." – Andy Sroka (3/12/25) |
|
Taj Marchand SS / James Island, SC / 2026National Rank: No. 45 "Lots of hand movement in the pre pitch setup that includes a quick reverse toe tap as a larger stretch, down and back, is seen to generate strength with the barrel. The Ole Miss recruit went 6-for-18 (2B, 1BB:1K) [at the NPI] and demonstrated a knack for covering the plate and spraying line drives to all fields. His 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame still holds considerable physical projection with a present wiry-athletic feel. Confident on the dirt, the ball found the right spot on the glove before he showcased plus arm strength across the diamond that also doubled as a 90 mph arm on the bump." – Shooter Hunt, VP of Scouting (6/19/25) |
|
Elliot Lascelles SS / Upper Canada College, ON / 2026National Rank: No. 50 "In what is shaping up to be a strong year for Canadian prospects, Lascelles is a good bet to catch helium in the new year. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitting shortstop has the speed and defensive acumen to stick up the middle, and his swing decisions stand out along with exceptional bat-to-ball ability. His athletic frame should see steady strength gains which will only aid the impact of the bat. Between his Yale commitment and unassuming nature, it was warranted that Lascelles might fly under the radar prior to the summer, but his steady performances and exciting upside are sure to yield plenty of buzz moving forward." – Shooter Hunt, VP of Scouting (9/3/25) |
STATISTICAL STAND-OUTS HEADED TO CHICAGO 🏙
The following leaderboards were assembled using metrics captured by players who attended a Prep Baseball event over the past year.
MAX EXIT VELOCITY LEADERS
| Max EV (mph) | |||
| 1 | Sean Dunlap | Crown Point (IN) | 109.8 |
| 2 | Dominic Santarelli | St. Joseph (WI) | 109.7 |
| 3 | Braylen Montgomery | Walker (LA) | 107.3 |
| 4 | Kaden Powell | Beech (TN) | 106.5 |
| 5 | Martin Shelar | Marist (GA) | 106.2 |
We have some imposing sluggers headed to this year’s event in particularly, several of whom do not appear hear since they did not register an exit velocity at a Prep Baseball event in 2025, but the all-time max EV record of 112.2 mph (Ryan Gilbert, OH, 2021) could potentially be breached this year of all years. Dunlap and Santarelli were in attendance at the 2025 All-American Game and both have a loud reputation offensively.
Dominic Santarelli (All-American Game, 9/18/25)
And then there’s boppers like Powell and TJ McQuillan (Mount Carmel HS, IL, 2026) who could also approach the 110 mph mark. For context, Dunlap’s 109.8 mph max he recorded in early 2025 would be good for third on the all-time max EV board at the Super 60.
Batting practice has a chance to be thunderous inside The MAX next month.
AVG. BAT SPEED LEADERS
| Avg. BS (mph) | |||
| 1 | Sean Dunlap | Crown Point (IN) | 80.5 |
| 2 | Justin Muñoz | Millbrook (NY) | 79.6 |
| 3 | Gunner Skelton | Columbia (TN) | 79.2 |
| 4 | Kamrin Jenkins | Oswego (IL) | 79.0 |
| 5 | Dominic Battista | Oswego East (IL) | 77.0 |
Again, the top-ranked prospect currently attending the Super 60, Dunlap would have a chance to record one of the fastest bat speed marks ever at the event.
Sean Dunlap (3/1/25)
Fellow backstop Muñoz would climb near the top of the all-time charts with another near-80 mph recording again in Chicago.
AVG. ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION LEADERS
| Avg. RA (g) | |||
| 1 | Justin Muñoz | Millbrook (NY) | 21.6 |
| 2 | Kaden Powell | Beech (TN) | 21.5 |
| 3 | Dominic Santarelli | St. Joseph (WI) | 18.9 |
| 4 | Dominic Battista | Oswego East (IL) | 18.4 |
| 5 | Jaxon Matthews | Hough (NC) | 17.6 |
Kaden Powell (6/5/25)
FASTEST 60-YARD DASH LEADERS
| Top 60 (s) | |||
| 1 | Will Yow | St. Anne's-Belfield (VA) | 6.15 |
| 2 | Ezra Liggon | Madison Memorial (WI) | 6.41 |
| 3 | Ben Kuglitsch | Muskego (WI) | 6.47 |
| 4 | Deacon Nelson | University School (OH) | 6.56 |
| 5 | Dominic Battista | Oswego East (IL) | 6.57 |
At the 2025 Super 60, the event’s all-time 60-yard dash record was broken by William Patrick (LA) with a 6.29 time. There’s some special athletes in this crop, as always, although Yow certainly does seem poised to take the 60 crown next month, should he decide to run at this prestigious preseason event.
Will Yow (8/14/25)
The Midwest has a particularly strong collection of premium athletes, and not just for the region. It's a group that will stack up against any other region in the country this spring season, and the Midwest will be well-represented at the Super 60 this year, and the 60-yard dash will showcase this group's skill set right away.
HIGHEST INFIELD VELOCITY
| Top INF (mph) | |||
| 1 | Jace Mataczynski | Hudson (WI) | 98 |
| 2 | Gunner Skelton | Columbia (TN) | 94 |
| 3 | Deacon Nelson | University School (OH) | 92 |
| - | Brody Jindra | Elkhorn South (NE) | 92 |
Three players all-time have reached the 97 mph mark on their throws across the infield, so we’ll see if one of the buzziest names on this roster, Mataczynski, can replicate the 98 mph he registered at July's Senior Future Games.
Jace Matacynski (7/22/25)
He isn’t the only one capable of competing for the all-time record in this category either, there’s some firepower coming to Chicago that calls the left side of the diamond home.
HIGHEST OUTFIELD VELOCITY
| Top OF (mph) | |||
| 1 | Jaxon Matthews | Hough (NC) | 97 |
| 2 | Dominic Battista | Oswego East (IL) | 94 |
| - | Braylen Montgomery | Walker (LA) | 94 |
Jaxon Matthews (5/1/25)
HIGHEST CATCHER VELOCITY
| Top C (mph) | |||
| 1 | Carson Sheffer | Oaks Christian (CA) | 86 |
| 2 | Sean Dunlap | Crown Point (IN) | 85 |
| 3 | Justin Muñoz | Millbrook (NY) | 82 |
Carson Sheffer (6/1/25)
TAKING THE MOUND
And when it comes to the arms scheduled to toe the rubber a month from now, we’ve gotten scattered looks at this group throughout the last year or so, and not always in front of a TrackMan unit or a spin gun. We’ll try and highlight some of the biggest statistical winners in front of our staff in 2025 in summary.
The top all-time fastball velocity mark was set in 2023 by Wolters at 97.7 mph and touched again the very next year (Chris Levonas, NJ). There’s a few arms coming capable of brushing up against elite velo like that, and the first that comes to mind is RHP Hudson DeVaughan (Mooresville HS, IN). The lean 6-foot-4 right-hander has easy arm speed that has helped him climb into the mid-90s regularly – reaching a 96.6 mph max at Prep Baseball Indiana’s Preseason All-State around this time last year.
Hudson DeVaughan (6/5/25)
And while he hasn’t been up into that range quite as often as DeVaughan, RHP Cameron Taylor (Kearney HS, MO) topped 97 mph in front of our staff at June’s National Program Invitational in Georgia to kick off the summer. It has previously looked like it was capable of becoming a unique rise/run kind of heater, and we’ll see how it’s progressing soon.
Listed at a massive 6-foot-8, 235 pounds, LHP/1B RJ Cope (Georgia Premier Academy HS, GA) is one of the most compelling prospects in the class. There aren’t really too many historical examples of a player of his stature who’ve shown premium velocity (T95 mph) with multiple secondaries, athleticism, and a booming left-handed swing to boot.
RJ Cope (9/27/25)
RHP David Hinojosa (Poly Prep HS, NY) is an easy choice to snag the most attention at the Super 60. He has giddy up on a mid-90s fastball and easy-to-see confidence in a sharp upper-70s breaking ball. Hinojosa could appear near the top of both the velo board as well as the spin charts.
The top-ranked pitcher currently registered for the Super 60 is RHP Tyson Grulkowski (Muskego HS, WI), who is a sturdy, strong 6-foot-5, 225-pound righty and he can do it all on the mound – it’s just that the velocity has not yet blossomed. It’s hard to see a world in which it won’t for a player who makes it look as easy as he does who’s also blessed with physicality. He’ll spin one of the best breaking balls at the event, a sweeper that could scrape the 3,000 rpm range.
Grulkowski won’t be the only one who possesses the ability to spin it like that, either. RHP Harrison Pollina (Arlington HS, TN) did actually cross that 3,000 rpm threshold back in June at the NPI with a biting curveball at 73-76 mph. This is also another area where DeVaughan excels, so we’ll see if he can couple his lively fastball velocity with a swing-and-miss breaker he flaunted in 2025 for us.
Harrison Pollina (6/5/25)
