Q&A with Missouri Commit Dylan Curtis

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

RHP Dylan Curtis (Francis Howell) is one of the top arms in a talented, pitcher-heavy senior class in the Show-Me State, currently ranked No. 3 in the class and inside the top 200 nationally. Curtis features an explosive, swing-and-miss fastball that regularly reaches the low 90s, creating difficult at-bats thanks in part to his projectable 6-foot-6, 180-pound frame. He complements the heater with a curveball/changeup mix he uses to put hitters away.

We recently had the chance to talk to Curtis about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Dylan: My expectations for the recruiting process was pretty easy for me, I wanted a place that made me feel like home and the best chance to be able to play.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

D: I like the coaches, culture, and the program they are building over there [at Missouri].

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

D: Find a program that works for you and work at it everyday. If you want to have a successful future you also have to sacrifice a lot that most kids might not be able to.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

D: Yeah, I didn’t wanna be over 5 hours away.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

D: The recruiting process started for me sophomore year summer. Mizzou first saw me play in Indiana.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

D: The Future Games really helped me with the amount of coaches there were.

PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

D: Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama.

PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

D: Brady Tanner. He’s a gritty hitter and doesn’t swing and miss.

PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?

D: Eli Skidmore's slider

PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

D: Jack Bogard

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

D: After I started playing with top level players and realizing I was just as good as them.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

D: MWSA showcase.

PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

D: We should be good, if no one gets hurt.
