The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Demopolis enters the 2026 season coming off a strong 22-11 campaign in 2025 that included a Sweet 16 appearance before falling to Elberta. With a senior-heavy roster returning and extensive postseason experience across the lineup and pitching staff, the Tigers head into the spring positioned to once again compete at a high level in Class 5A Area 7.

The Tigers return a deep and experienced group of seniors who will anchor both the lineup and the mound. SS/RHP Jake Powell (2026) returns as a key piece up the middle, providing stability defensively while factoring into the pitching staff. RHP/INF Colton Colgrove (West Alabama, 2026) brings experience on the mound and in the infield, joined by RHP/UTL Jack Pritchett (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, 2026), who adds versatility and innings to the staff. Behind the plate, C/RHP Bryce McElroy (Gadsden State CC, 2026) returns as an experienced catcher and arm, while C/RHP JW McAlpine (2026) provides additional depth at catcher and on the mound. The middle of the order features 1B/LHP Braxton Vice (Huntingdon, 2026), who adds a left-handed presence both at first base and on the mound, along with 3B/RHP Bryant Deas (2026), another two-way contributor expected to log innings and provide production in the lineup. RHP Josiah Colgrove (Central Alabama CC, 2026) returns as another experienced arm, while OF Tucker Capps (2026) and OF Conner Reynolds (2026) round out an outfield group with varsity experience. Pitching, defense, and experience define Demopolis’ identity entering 2026. The Tigers return a pitching staff with multiple arms capable of starting or filling key roles throughout the week, allowing flexibility during area play and postseason matchups. Defensively, returning experience across the field provides continuity behind the pitching staff, while a senior-led lineup brings consistency and familiarity.

As head coach Luke Tucker noted, “Demopolis should make a deep run in the playoffs with its strong pitching staff and defense.” With a veteran roster, proven postseason experience, and depth on the mound, Demopolis enters the 2026 season with clear expectations of competing deep into the playoffs in Class 5A.
