Cooper Carleton, Whitney High (CA), 2027 Positional Profile: LHP/1B Crafty LHP with starter mix and good feel for secondary offerings. Will add velocity as frame fills out. Body: 6-2, 155-pounds. Lean, wiry frame with plenty of room for additional physical development. Delivery: Works from a higher hand set that gradually lowers to belt level before syncing with the front leg. Employs a high leg kick and sinks into the rear hip, utilizing a drop/drive movement to work aggressively down the mound with noticeable length to the stride. Maintains a controlled tempo throughout a repeatable delivery. Arm Action: RH. Features a lengthy arm path that works cleanly in line with the body, creating solid depth. Shows smooth acceleration through the motion, working up to a 3/4 slot with a consistent release point. Finishes with noticeable recoil upon release. FB: T86, 84-85 mph. FB displays heavy arm-side run, with good carry shown when thrown up in the zone. Can produce swing-and-miss. Comes in firm against LHH inside, with late break shown. Located well on the edges. Has room to add velocity as frame fills. T2057, 1861 average rpm. SL: 69-72 mph. High spin SL, with solid sweeping action. Shows good feel to throw in zone, playing off FB plane. Used late in counts as chase offering. T2329, 2250 average rpm. CH: 75-75 mph. Heavy fade on the CH. Creates good separation and tunnels well of the FB up. Used to change eye levels and thrown in zone. 1546 average rpm.

Carleton is coming back off an injury over a year ago, so with having to sit out since last summer, it was refreshing to be able to see him throw again. Carleton is a sleeper in the area and not many people know about him yet. He’s got a lot to offer considering he’s 6’1” and 150 lbs, with the added strength in the future, Carleton has got a shot to be a really talented arm in the 2027 class. Carleton stepped on the mound with a three pitch mix, starting with his fastball, it was coming out of the hand pretty heavy. His fastball was sitting between 85-86 mph while topping out at 87 mph. Carleton has a ton of armside run on his heater making it look a lot more firm than it is, mix that with a 97% spin efficiency (2,009 rpm on FB) there's definitely something there. Also, Carleton has an average Horizontal Movement of -16.7 in with a max of -20 inches, potentially a left handed hitter's nightmare. The curveball plays well off of the FB, with a max spin rate of nearly 2700 rpm, and an average of 2375 rpm. I like how he can stay in the zone when throwing the off speed. Carelton paired those with a changeup which had some finesse, the velo was 73-75 mph while having a max spin rate of 1823. Carleton earned his spot as a PO on team NorCal for the Future Games.
