I’ve had several looks at Trigo where I’ve always wondered what his profile would like defensively at SS and on this day I finally got a chance to see the talented defender handle the premium defensive spot. A smooth mover at 3B who has always showed body control, soft hands and solid footwork the way Trigo moved at SS with slightly more bounce to his actions, quickness/rhythm to his feet, comfort playing one handed and even showed off slightly more arm strength to his throws from SS has me intrigued to see potentially more of him there in the future. The defensive look was not the only up arrow feeling I got from Trigo on this day, but the RH hitter put together maybe the most intriguing offensive look I’ve had at him which is saying something considering how high I am on his offensive ability. Trigo has consistently shown bat to ball with a middle of the field approach, but on this day he showed something I had not seen in a live look before which was loft with carry to the pull side. After lacing a single in front of the leftfielder Trigo got to a ball out front with some intent in his next trip to the dish which resulted in a deep drive to the LCF which came up about two feet short of a homer. That simple flash of impact to the pull side from Trigo really intrigued me as I’ve always felt there was more in the offensive tank and the more comfortable he gets with hunting damage with his swing versus simply hard contact there is real power potential for him.

Trigo just continues to impress and perform each time I have seen him going back over the last 12 months. From a pair of solid live looks in 2024 High School season, two different Prep Baseball California events and a 2024 Winter Baseball look the RH hitting INF has me convinced of his strong baseball ability. This look provided a glimpse into the upward trending offensive profile for him with a swing that is showing improved bat speed, better use of the lower half, easier control of his load and consistently strong bat to ball skills. In the first plate appearance Trigo got to a 2-0 count and jumped on an outer half FB that he got slightly on top of for a groundout. The second at bat for Trigo he ambushed an early elevated breaking ball that he lined into LF for an L-7 hitting it right at the LF for Dos Pueblos. For his final trip Trigo got into a two strike count, but was able to get to an elevated FB and drive it down the RF line for two RBI double that broke the game open. With his strong foundation of baseball ability continuing to develop, the biggest thing for me now is to see development in his physicality by adding strength to his frame to tap into upside potential.

Mason Trigo, Buena High (CA), 2026 Positional Profile: 3B/SS Well rounded profile that shows strong/impact level defense while his offensive profile continues to rise showing more impact/power with each viewing. Body: 6-1, 164-pounds. Wiry athletic build with broad shoulders and room to fill strength on frame Hit: RHH. Wider set up with his base and slightly open feet with minimal knee crouch and slight hip hinge. Rear elbow is set high with hands at rear shoulder depth about ear height and barrel tipped towards LF foul pole. Front shoulder coils back. Simple short load with a slight shift of the weight and short front foot stride into a wide base that allows his hips to rotate with quickness. Showing better ability to stay behind the baseball through the turn with a leverage based path and extension that is generating more contact out front with impact. 62.9 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 84.1 mph. 327' max distance. Power is trending up with increase to top end EV, more contact in the air with a flatter stroke, but ability to impact the ball out front with authority. Doubles profile at present that can grow into HR power. Arm: RH. INF-73 mph. Longer smooth arm action with which he doesn't exert a ton of effort while still showing carry/accuracy from hot corner. Defense: Easy mover on defensive side who shows feel for angles and his footwork/hands that give him range and consistency. Confident defender with high upside profile. ATH: 7.50 runner in the 60. Taller run posture with good stride length/quickness can improve 1st step and drive portion.
