Del Castillo was a member of the 2024 Team California Junior Future Games roster and SoCal Top Prospect attendee where he showed off an intriguing skill set as a RHP and RH hitter. This was my first chance to see him in a High School game environment and the 6’4 framed Del Castillo was not intimidated taking the mound on a Saturday morning at a Minor League stadium. After a walk and a HBP to open the game the physically well built righthander settled in to provide an outstanding five innings of work with three strikeouts, four hits, two runs allowed and just the leadoff walk. Del Castillo was in and around the zone with a solid present 80-84 MPH FB which shows arm side run/sink and plays well down in the zone for soft contact. He backed up the FB with a solid present 71-73 MPH SLD (more SLV like in shape) which he showed a present feel to throw for strikes IZ or out of the zone for chase. The right-hander flashed a CHG in the 76-77 MPH range with some fade to the arm side, but still has polish to do on the offering. With a durable frame, clean arm action, lower-effort delivery, solid present control flashing command of a breaking ball and composure even in pressure situations Del Castillo profiles as a long term-starter who has an intriguing ceiling.
