California State Games: 2028 Pitcher Analysis

Starting on July 30th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the California State Games at Fullerton College and High School in Fullerton, Cal. This was an invite-only event for high school classes (2026-2029), and gave our staff an ample look at the state's top prospects.

Today, we continue the release of the scouting reports from the event, now looking at the 2028 pitchers:

TOP 2028 PITCHERS

1. Russell Del Castillo, Damien (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/3B Physical two-way player with present strength, gap-to-gap power potential, and a projectable arm.
Body: 6-3, 237-pounds. Large, physical frame with present strength and noticeable projection; plenty of room to mature and further develop physically.
Delivery: Compact stretch delivery with a quicker pace. Utilizes a short leg lift before riding down the mound. Finishes aggressively while maintaining balance through the follow-through.
Arm Action: RH. Extended arm action with a loose, fast motion, releasing from a long, high three-quarter slot.
FB: T86, 84-86 mph. Good ride and consistent arm-side run. Shows carry up in the zone and can miss barrels when elevated. T2228, 2127 average rpm.
SL: 76-79 mph. Short, lateral breaking slider with some unique vertical action. Tunnels off the fastball well but doesn’t have traditional depth. Work in progress pitch. T2178, 1942 average rpm.
