Jacob Quintero SS / 3B / Ridgeview High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 98 / POS: 22
Arguably the biggest breakout performer of the event Quintero is sure to see his profile rise immensely come the next rankings update for Prep Baseball California. Already appearing in the Workout Warriors Quick Hits the Bakersfield based SS proved his tools play as good if not even better during games as they do in workouts. Defensively, Quintero manned both SS and 2B over the course of three games at PK Park and looked very comfortable while moving with confidence on every ball in his area when he was on defense. His actions projected a potential impact defender and the way he played in game showed he is not far off from reaching this profile. At the plate the strong metrics he produced during the workout quickly translated into game play when during his first at bat Quintero uncorked on a drive over the centerfielders head for a triple which would not be the last ball he stung over his two games on the PK Park field. He would lace a hard drive down the RF line which was bound for another potential triple before an acrobatic highlight reel play from the opponents RF turned it into an out. Jacob controlled each at bat with confidence, made quality swing decisions, displayed bat to ball with consistent barrel feel that all add up to a very strong present approach. In his final trip to the plate at PK Park with runners at 2nd/3rd and no outs he got to a 2K count before staying on a breaking ball away to hammer a groundball up the middle that drove in the runner from 3rd and advanced the runner from 2nd to 3rd (would score on the next hitters SAC Fly). The entirety of the weekend for Quintero made him a name that is going to be a highly followed 2028 out of California in the coming year.

Tyce Johnson SS / Linfield Christian School, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 57 / POS: 16
If Quintero was not the biggest breakout star of this event then the crown would have to go Tyce Johnson of the Inland Empire. Appearing in our Workout Warriors Quick Hits just like Quintero did, Johnson may have performed at an even higher level over three games played at PK Park. On the opening evening following up the standout workout performance he uncorked on three well hit baseballs that went from the LCF gap into the RCF with impressive carry. While none of those first three balls turned into hits the success for Johnson was still to come proving that if you hit the ball hard consistently they will find holes when he collected multiple hits over his final at bats of the weekend. Johnson capped his offensive performance with a rocket line drive to the warning track in LCF which cleared the OF and turned into an easy triple for the athletic runner. Defensively, he looked more than comfortable moving around the middle of the INF with the type of actions that give you plenty of reason to stick at SS. Tyce was clean on the defensive side of the game. Be on the lookout for a big rise coming from Johnson who is on the path to wind up amongst the top SS prospects in this class for the state of California.

Kole (KJ) Henrich C / OF / Oaks Christian, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 60 / POS: 9
Henrich is another member of the gameplay quick hits who appeared first in the Workout Warriors Quick Hits showing his tools not only shine in a workout, but also in the game play portion. A toolsy and athletic RH hitter who showed off defensive versatility manning the catching spot with comfort receiving, sound technique in his blocking and a solid throwing arm, but for good measure took reps in the OF including making a nifty sliding catch on a sinking line drive out in RF. While the defense for Henrich was solid it was his turns at the plate which opened the most eyes to his future potential. In his first three at bats KJ had hammered a drive to the RF, CF and LF sides of the field. He started with a rocket L-9 right at the RF defender for his oppenent, then uncorked on a drive to the warning track in CF that landed for a standup double and then narrowly missed leaving the field when he launched a deep drive to LF that came up just short of an HR. The hitting wasn't just confined to the opening night, but carried over into the next two games where he picked up one more knock with a 2K RBI single that came on a leveraged pitch down and away from the RH hitter. Kole is a standout soccer player on top of his baseball profile with a physically developed frame and athleticism to match who is going to find plenty of eyes on him as a high level 2028 prospect in the coming year.

Ryan Sheffer SS / 2B / Oaks Christian, CA / 2028Sheffer made an appearance in our Workout Warriors Quick Hits where his overall strong toolset shined bright. Entering the event amongst the Top 10 players in the State he lived up to the pressure during games taking four strong plate appearances and making several high level defensive plays. Sheffer reached base twice in four trips to the plate at PK Park including ripping a hard ground ball single to LF in his second AB of the event. He then went on to hit two balls hard in his last two at bats despite not getting hits with either it was a strong display of the barrel awareness for the SoCal based product. Once on base his high level run tool was on display when he stole multiple bags displaying his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways from the offensive side. For good measure the well known impressive defensive profile for Sheffer was on display highlight by an athletic diving play to his backhand side when he was playing 2B for the grey team. Star players find ways to make an impact even when they aren't lighting up the stat boxes and Sheffer showed his star level profile with how he competed against some of the top Soph. talente in the Western region.

Jason Taylor OF / RHP / Notre Dame High School, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 107 / POS: 21
Taylor showed off an athletic position player profile during the workout portion before backing it up with a strong showing over the multiple games played including a pair of hard hit baseball with one going for a hit up the middle. He looked comfortable playing all over the OF and nearly made a highlight reel diving catch when he ranged from the LCF gap into the RCF gap leaving his feet to just miss a ball in the gap. But, for as solid as his position player showing was during the event it's the work Taylor did on the mound at PK Park which cemented his appearance here. An athletic mover down the mound with impressive arm speed for a rising Soph. who repeats the delivery efficiently the righthander showed off some of the best stuff on the mound of the weekend. Taylor pitched off a FB that lived at 83-86 MPH with life thru the zone while backing it up with a sharp 2400+ RPM SLD at 71-75 MPH as his primary secondary. He mixed in a sound 79-80 MPH cut FB to go with the makings of a sound 75-76 MPH CHG. Jason pounded the zone at a high level to pick up multiple Ks in his outing with soft contact from the hitters who were able to get the ball in play off him. Another player whose overall performance at West Coast Super Sophomore Games should bring a hefty rise to his profile on our rankings board come the end of fall.

CJ Gamradt LHP / LHP / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 89 / POS: 4
Gamradt earned his way to Oregon on the back of a very strong bullpen session at the Central California Summer ID. But, the southpaw went to work on his frame, stuff and overall pitching profile in the time since the ID to take an impressive three inning turnon the mound at PK Park. CJ has added solid strength to his frame in the past few months which in turn came with an upward tick to his FB life that sat at 84-86 MPH for his three inning outing with life to the arm side and up in the zone to induce whiff/chase from hitters. His primary secondary was a solid present 70-71 MPH CHG which he threw to both RH and LH hitters for strikes or below the zone to induce chase. Then he mixed in a developing CHG at 75-76 MPH which flashed plenty of potential. The control was scattered at times in the first and second innings, but lived in the zone during the third inning giving the impression of a long term starting profile for this southpaw. Over his three innings Gamradt picked up five total Ks and allowed no hits to his opposition. There is still polish needed to his pitchability profile, but the Harvard Westlake product is heading in the right direction and should be a highly followed name in the 2028 class.

Jonathan Torres 1B / LHP / Chaparral High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 144 / POS: 10
Torres participated in the event as a two-way player taking a turn on the mound, but the LH hitting 1B out of the Inland Empire appears here for the way he swung the bat at PK Park. While his defensive profile appears to be strictly limited to 1B he is a solid defender over there who handled the opportunities presented to him over two games with comfort. It's the hit tool for this LH hitter that stood out amongst a very strong group of California hitters. Torres is comfortable in the box facing any type of pitcher with four at bats off four different styles of pitchers. He showed the feel to use the entirety of the field with hard contact from line to line that helped him collect multiple hits over the two games played. His bat path plays mainly to line drive contact, but it's hard line drive contact including rocketing a double to RF in his first trip to the dish and following it up with a missile single to CF in his next trip to the dish. Keep your eyes on Torres going forward as the type of offensive player who can be an impact profile for a lineup at the next level.

Mason Ritchey RHP / OF / Garces Memorial High School, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 118 / POS: 23
Ritchey showed off a solid overall toolset during the workout portion of the event with quality tools in a variety of different areas of the game. But, for the Bakersfield based product it was his ability to utilize those tools in game play that shined the brightest showing his present and future upside. Ritchey takes consistently comfortable takes while in the box showing the ability to track and be on time with pitches to make high quality swing decisions over four trips the dish at PK Park (as well on display at Bushnell University field). His first trip to the dish was the only one he had that didn't result in a high quality result for himself or his team when he struck out. Over his next three trips to the plate the RH hitter would pcik up a pair of RBIs while drawing a walk. With a runner on third later in the first game he played at PK Park Mason smoked a line drive that took the RF defender for the opponent towards the wall to pick up a SAC Fly. In his next trip to the plate on the final day of the event he drew a walk laying off pitches outside of the zone. Then in his final at bat of the weekend the RH hitter timed up a 86 MPH FB out over the plate and smoked a double into the RCF gap. Ritchey played all over the OF with comfort showing the potential to handle any of the three position long term based on the development of his athletic profile and arm strenght, but one thing is certain his bat has the potential to be an impactful one.

Colton Dunwoody RHP / 3B / Royal, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 69 / POS: 14
A two-way product who showed solidly well as a RH hitting corner INF product with exit velocities that are approaching the 100 MPH mark Dunwoody present some intrigue with that side of the game. Yet, for as much as you may like his offensive profile it's what the 6'1 181.4 lbs. Dunwoody showed the type of pitching profile that could be destined for a high level once his high school career wraps up. Dunwoody toed the rubber for a strong multiple inning look where he collected multiple strikeouts with minimal hard contact against him. His FB fronts the arsenal living at 82-84 MPH and touching the 85 MPH range with a smooth lower effort operation that looks the part of a long term starter. Dunwoody controlled the offering in the zone at a solid level. On the secondary side he mainly utilized a 73-77 MPH sweepy SLD which when thrown in the zone locked up hitters for strikes or induced whiff/chase when they could pull the trigger. He mixed in the occasional mid 70's CHG, but predominantly focuses on a north/south attack between his FB-CB combination.

Cash Wiltgen RHP / 3B / Calabasas High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 68 / POS: 13
Wiltgen posted an impressive rotational acceleration during the batting practice portion of the event which was a premonition of the performance to come from him on the mound. The Calabasas High product was solid as a position player with the metrics he showed off, but it was really what he did on the mound that puts him on this list. Wiltgen uses an up-tempo delivery with a long arm action that gets deep behind his body while using that ability to rotate at an elite level with present arm speed to uncork a FB that missed bats or produced soft contact at a high rate. Cash threw his FB in the 83-85 MPH range while touching 86 with the offering that showed intriguing ride and spin traits including present spin above 2300+ RPMs consistently. He pairs the riding life of his FB with a sharp downward breaking CB which flashed power for whiff/chase in the shape while coming in at 70-74 MPH. After walking the first hitter he faced Wiltgen quickly settled in to get soft contact to the 3B for a fielders choice before punching out two hitters in his first inning. He completed the outing with a soft INF single to the left side with more soft contact producing his outs. Wiltgen will need to develop a third pitch and show consistency to throw strikes over the long term to maintain the starters profile, but whether he winds up in a rotation or a bullpen long term the ability this SoCal product showed off was impressive.

Wyatt Richardson OF / SS / St. Bonaventure, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 10
Richardson put together an overall solid weekend from the workout as a position player with the athletic workout/defensive workout giving him an impact defensive profile in the OF. Flashed a solid offensive toolset which with improvements to his in game timing could give im an impact top of the order offensive ability. That position player profile performed at a solid level over the two games his team played at PK Park drawing a walk in one at bat and working several deep count plate appearances with solid bat to ball, but just a tick late with his timing during the game play portion. Richardson is an athletic mover who is very lean/wiry in build so added strength in the future can help tick up what is a strong present position player. Rounding out the profile for Richardson is the impressive present arm strength he has (88 MPH from the OF at the WCSSG and 89 MPH at the Central California Summer ID) which translates to the mound. Wyatt uses a clean, smooth low effort operation which he can repeat at a high level to attack the strike zone consistently. The delivery alone would catch eyes, but then when you add a FB living in the 84-86 MPH range that touches 87 at present with plenty of strikes from an offering which looks to have more in the tank one can't help but dream on the pitching upside. While the FB is impressive Richardson can polish his CB to help make his north/south attack profile play up even higher than its present ability (CB was at 66-69 MPH presently). The breaking ball was soft in shape and tended to land elevated in the zone allowing hitters to put it in play whether in cross-count or 2K counts higher than it should be. Overall, what Richardson showed off during the two games at PK Park evidenced why he is ranked inside our Top 50, but even more so showed off the potential for him to move in higher as he continues to get better.

Daniel Jay Gonzalez C / SS / El Diamante High, CA / 2028Picking the final player to make his way into this 10 player grouping was not an easy one because of the quality of performance from several players in attendance. Gonzalez earns his way on to this list for his ability to hit from both sides of the plate while showing a long term profile to stick at catcher with a strong defensive profile. Gonzalez was strong during the workout portion of the event where his tools earned him recognition in the names to know portion of our Workout Warriors Quick Hits, but his ability to put those tools to use in game pushes him onto this list. Gonzalez had mutliple hits over the course of the two games his team played at PK Park including a deep count line drive single to the middle of the field where he battled out of an early 2K count. He uses the middle of the field consistently for contact showing a high hit tool with bat to ball and the ability to use his lower 1/2 at a high level. Behind the dish he handles velocity from pitchers with comfort, is adept at tracking spin with his glove and presenting it effectively while being a strong blocker on balls in the dirt. His arm is solid with consistent accuracy to the back. Gonzalez performed at a high level across the board making a statement to be a name to follow out of the Central Valley.
