Our staff was in attendance for the VISAA State Semifinals on Friday. Here are some recaps and quick hits from the Division I and Division II games.
Division II:
#1 Highland School took on #4 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in the first semifinal of the day. Connor McAuley and George Rizzo would tally two RBI's a piece and the team totaled ten hits as the Hawks pulled away late for a 7-3 victory over NSA. Tyler Kaltreider (VMI) got the start for the Highland Hawks and would battle through four innings before giving way to Connor McAuley, who would ultimately pick up the win. Jordan Crosland had a two RBI double in the third inning for Nansemond-Suffolk that would tie the game up, but Highland would be too much in the end.

In the second game of the day #2 Greenbrier Christian took on #3 Atlantic Shores Christian. Scoring and offense were scarce early, as GCA starter Nico Angrisani and ASCS starter Joe Fredericks were strong early. Atlantic Shores would get a big offensive day from 2025 Brayden Bachman, who was 3-3 on the day, but that would not be enough to overcome the experienced offense of Greenbrier Christian. GCA would score in the fourth through sixth innings off the bats of James McGrady (Western Carolina), Austin Younce (VCU), Joey Allen, and Nico Angrisani. Angrisani threw a complete game striking out ten and giving up one lone run in the sixth inning. Greenbrier won 6-1 over Atlantic Shores to advance to the DII championship.

Division I:
#1 seeded and undefeated St. Christopher Saints would jump out to an early lead over the #4 Cape Henry Dolphins and would not look back. UVA commit Griffin O'Ferrall led off the bottom of the first inning with a line drive home run out of left center field and winds up that is all the help that Saints' starter Camden Nuckols would need. The VCU commit would tally nine strikeouts over the five innings complete game, allowing two hits, and zero walks. The Saints' offense was led by Carter Schmitt (Randolph-Macon) and Harrison Coble (Pittsburgh) who combined for seven hits between the two of them. St. Chris won 10-0 in five innings.

#2 Benedictine took on #3 Miller School in the night cap and for the final spot in the VISAA State Championship games. It did not disappoint. High energy environment with a lot on the line. Benedictine starter Connor Handy (New Orleans) was electric throughout his outing. Benedictine scored two early on an error and then would extend it to 3-0 on a Jay Woolfolk (UVA) home run. Miller School would creep back in with a Henry Cooke double, setting up two runners in scoring position, but it was too little too late. Benedictine reliever Daniel Lingle would come in and get a four out save and the Cadets of Benedictine would advance by a score of 3-2 to the DI State Championship game on Saturday evening.
This groundball off the bat of Victor Johnson is mishandled and @BCPBaseball is in the board first.
