The ‘Hotlist’ is a series that provides weekly insight into the high school baseball scene spanning the country, curated by Prep Baseball’s state directors who are situated nationwide, with vital intel on the prospects who are in their own backyards. Each week, we’ll publish our ‘Hotlist’ on varying topics that are timeliest to the national baseball calendar at that point in time.
This week’s topic: This week, we're looking for you to share a record-breaking performance from the spring, it could be a state or program record, single-game or the entire season (coaching wins record, season strikeout record, etc.)

♨️ The ‘Hotlist’ (6/20):
California
+ Angel Cervantes, RHP (Warren High School HS, 2025) | UCLA:
“Cervantes, a two-time Prep Baseball All-American, wrapped up his record setting career at Warren High School by finishing atop the career strikeout list. Cervantes eclipsed the old record of 309 on May 7th when he tossed three scoreless innings registering four strikeouts to set the new record with 310 career strikeouts in his final career regular season start as a Warren Bear. The UCLA signee toed the rubber in the first round of the playoffs for Warren and the Bears got more of the same from the multi-year starter. Cervantes tossed a complete game three hitter with eleven strikeouts to finish his career with a total of 321 career strikeouts. ”
– Les Lukach, State Director
Illinois
+ Bren Milburn, INF/OF (Crete-Monee HS, 2025) | Morton College:
“Milburn broke the IHSA record for most stolen bases in a season with 93, a record that was held by Jeff Burton (1988) and Joe Perez (2001), both with 73 stolen bases. To add, Milburn's 93 stolen bases led the entire country, per Max Preps.”
– Gavin Smith, Manager, Content & Operations/Scout
Minnesota
+ Gavin Griffin, OF (Perham HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“Gavin Griffin an outfielder from Perham high School had quite the spring season tallying 11 triples on the season in just 23 games. On the season he hit .459, with 20 extra base hits, 5 homeruns, 16 stolen bases, and helped lead his high school to a 3rd place finish in state. The 22nd ranked player in Minnesota's 2027 class ”
– Andy Judkins, State Director
Nevada
+ Alexander Mercurius, RHP (Durango HS, 2025) | Oklahoma:
“Broke the previous state record for 317 career strikeouts and set the new record with 340 this Spring. ”
– Brett Harrison, West Coast Supervisor
New Jersey
+ Governor Livingston HS
“Governor Livingston, a public high school in New Jersey of just over 900 students, completed a run that will be forever remembered as one of the best seasons in New Jersey baseball history. The Highlanders finished the 2025 season at an undefeated 28-0 and a unanimous No. 1 overall state ranking along with long time coach Chris Roof collecting his 500th career win. It was a run capped by the Group 2 State Championship on Monday, in a convincing 6-1 defeat over a solid West Morris Central team. Junior Virignia commit, SS Zach Geertsma led most offensive categories, hitting at a .453 clip with 11 doubles, eight homers, 33 RBI, and 43 runs scored. The consistency of the pitching staff certainly cannot be overlooked, with a combined 1.78 ERA with a staggering 13 shutouts. Senior Stetson recruit Matty Diskin (33.1 IP, 18 H, 29 K) and junior Keith Mann (56.1 IP, 38 H, 58 K) led the way. Governor Livingston becomes the first program to complete an undefeated season since the 2008 Don Bosco Prep squad, which featured multiple draft picks and was known as the de facto 'National Champion.'”
– TJ Hunt, State Director
North Carolina
+ T.C. Roberson High School
“For the first time in the state of North Carolina's history a team repeated as an NCHSAA 4A Champion for a 3rd time in a row. T.C. Roberson entered the season as the No. 1 team in the Prep Baseball North Carolina Power 25. They remained in the top slot up until the final regular season poll was released. With their run through the state playoffs, the Rams reclaimed the top spot in the final Power 25. The road to the 3rd straight championship featured wins over 5 teams in the final Power 25, including best of 3 series wins in the Regional Final and State Championship over No. 2 and No. 3 in the final poll.”
– Brandon Hall, NC/Mid-Atlantic Director of Scouting
Oklahoma
+ Hunter Watson, RHP (Tuttle HS, 2026) | Oklahoma:
“Watson fired a 7 Inning No Hitter and tied a state record with 21 strikeouts. The Oklahoma commit was dominant on the year, but this No Hit effort was a highlight as he overpowered opposing hitters. Ultimately, he was a walk and error away from perfection, but the 21-Punchout performance made him 1 of 6 pitchers in state history to reach the mark in a 7 Inning game.”
– Bret Schwartz, Oklahoma Scouting Director
Oregon
+ Zack Hankins, LHP (Taft HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“The lefty broke the Oregon single-season record for lowest ERA in a season, posting a 0.09 ERA for 4A Taft High School. Hankins was dominant all spring, taking home Pitcher of the Week early on in the season, and was most recently seen at PNW Preseason All-State this winter. The uncommitted junior will also be in attendance at PNW State Games this July.”
– Dylan Grenz, Associate Scout
Washington
+ Cody Ells, LHP/OF (Asotin HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“The lefty posted a season that could not be topped, allowing 0 earned runs in 56.1 IP for Asotin High School. Ells struck out 114 and walked just 21 hitters in his remarkable season. The junior also hit .543 with 42 R and 26 RBI at the plate to win league MVP honors.”
– Dylan Grenz, Associate Scout
Wisconsin
+ Ethan Bauerschmidt, RHP (Tremper HS, 2025) | Penn State:
“Bauerschmidt is one of the most athletic pitchers in Wisconsin, and it gives him an immense ceiling as a prospect, which brought about pro scouts to each of his starts this spring. Well, if they were in attendance for his start against crosstown rivals Bradford on April 8, they were treated to a show.
The Penn State recruit owns one of the best breaking balls in the state, and he wielded it on this particular day better than ever, which resulted in a dominant seven-inning no-hitter in which he struck out 19 of the 23 batters he faced. Bauerschmidt did this on just 84 pitches, too, and of his 64 strikes, 29 of them were whiffs. Ultimately, he wrapped up his prep career this spring by striking out 120 batters in 62.1 innings, and he walked just 20 total – though his outing on April 8 will always be remembered as one of the best single-game performances we can recall.”
