2026 MLB Draft: May's Mock Draft
May 5, 2026

With the college regular season nearing its conclusion and the prep spring slate winding down, our look at the 2026 MLB Draft has come into clearer focus. UCLA SS Roch Cholowsky (Hamilton HS, AZ, 2023) remains atop the board for the White Sox, but plenty has shifted underneath him, with prep shortstops, college bats, and a fresh wave of pitching now jockeying for position inside the first 25 picks.

Aiden Ruiz SS / The Stony Brook School, NY / 2026"This is my second year in a row getting a look at Ruiz and walked away highly impressed both times. The shortstop displays, in my opinion, the best zone coverage in the country. With immense bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate, Ruiz utilizes a slightly squatted setup from a compact frame that nearly eliminates the strike zone. Generates tremendous strength from ground up with accuracy in the barrel to abuse mistakes to all-fields. There feels like an easy plus in the hit tool at peak with sneaky pop that will carry from both sides. In the dirt, the Vanderbilt commit might have some of the best glove skills of any shortstop in the class. Hands are always in-sync with the body backed by present arm strength that is consistently accurate across. Rarely out of control or position and while making difficult look routine. "It was a treat to see 25-plus Northeast scouts travel for an early spring look at Ruiz and I'd expect the Stony Brook product to be highly sought after this summer." – Ian Smith, Georgia Asst. Scouting Director (2/25/26) |
- Cameron Flukey, RHP (Coastal Carolina): Flukey returned to the mound in Week 11 with a four-pitch mix for strikes including his 95-97 mph fastball and a brand-new 89 mph kick change. The improved slider graded as his top offering, with the curve close behind. His first two-inning stint back was impressive with little rust shown, and the arsenal was even enhanced, if anything. With continued good health and and more looks like this first one back out, Flukey should be considered a top-15-type pick once again.
- Tyler Bell, SS (Kentucky): Bell carries a 1.183 OPS this spring with more walks than strikeouts (28:21), seemingly unbothered by an early-season shoulder injury that briefly held him out of the lineup and then back at DH before he reclaimed shortstop in late March. This past weekend against Tennessee, he tallied seven hits in three games and five for extra bases, including home runs in each of the final two. The sophomore-eligible star is heating up at just the right time.
- Cole Koeninger, INF/RHP (Keller HS, TX): One of the most polarizing prospects in the class, Koeninger pairs fast-twitch athleticism with mid-90s heat, a true hammer 12/6 curveball, 82-84 mph, an 88 mph cut-like slider, and a power-fade changeup at 86. Those four offerings each flash above-average grades or better. As a hitter, it's a flat path with high-end bat speed that makes every swing a threat to leave the yard, with realistic game power to all fields. The two-way upside is enormous, though the question is which side a club ultimately commits to. He continues to stack outings on the mound, and most recently in a perfect six innings twirled in the Texas playoffs with 14 Ks on just 75 pitches.
- Vahn Lackey, C (Georgia Tech): Lackey has been one of the stories of the baseball world this spring and he's shot up boards all spring long, and he now sits No. 2 overall on our college rankings. He showcases exceptional hands behind the plate that have helped his staff entrust him with in-the-dirt sliders that have buried hitters without awarding free passes in the process, like one from Tate McKee that our David Seifert witnessed recently against North Carolina, and he tossed out Jake Schaffner in that same game on a 1.79 pop to second base in the fourth frame. He has nine steals this spring too (second on the team) with 12 homers (also second) which underscores his versatility and likability among pro scouts. He's trending to be picked inside the top-five.
- Drew Burress, OF (Georgia Tech): The Georgia Tech centerfielder is a firecracker who gets the absolute most out of an undersized, 5-foot-9, 185-pound build, in a way that leaves little doubt that he can positively impact the big league level – which is rare. The center field defense grants him an easier path to pro ball, but his knack for collecting extra-base hits can set him apart. He's second on Georgia Tech with 18 doubles this season and third with 10 home runs.
- Chris Hacopian, INF (Texas A&M): The Maryland transfer has slotted into the SEC well, slugging nearly .500 with an .889 OPS and just 15 strikeouts in 145 plate appearances. He owns some of the best underlying contact metrics in college, so the low K rate is not some mirage, either. At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds with barrel accuracy and a mature approach, the right organization might be tempted to unlock more game power on their development track.

Brody Bumila LHP / Bishop Feehan, MA / 2026One of the noisiest spring storylines along this MLB Draft circuit comes out of New England where the 6-foot-9 Bumila has been climbing draft boards rapidly. Shooter Hunt, vice president of scouting at Prep Baseball, caught him in Massachusetts last week sitting 94-99 mph (2,700-2,800 rpm) with a plus changeup at 84-88 and a developing slider at 74-78. His massive size, levers and peripherals on the fastball make it one of the most electric offerings in this draft cycle. It's a tantalizing ceiling which is especially interesting given how special this collection of prep lefties has already looked with Bumila previously on the outside looking in. Prior to the start of spring baseball season in the northeast, the Texas recruit earned Bishop Feehan its first-ever state basketball championship after scoring 36 points and racking up 21 rebounds the title game against the No. 1 seed. So, not only is he a 6-foot-9 southpaw with upper-90s velo, there's a dynamic athlete in here too. (5/2/26) |
- Taj Marchand, SS (James Island HS, SC): The 6-foot-2, 200-pound shortstop arrived in Chicago for the Super 60 at the start of February noticeably stronger than on last summer's circuit and he turned that strength loose, peaking at 107.9 mph in BP with a 103.3 mph average and max distances of 413 feet. He was the most fluid, sure-handed defender at the event, with an athletic, strong arm across the diamond, and his low-pulse poise only adds to the appeal. Combined with elite swing decisions surfaced over the summer, he mixed all of these traits together for an explosive spring. He's currently hitting .506 for James Island with a 1.648 OPS, and he has 20 extra-base hits (11 HR) compared to just four strikeouts and 15 walks in 96 plate appearances.
(Taj Marchand; Super 60, 2/1/26)
- Trevor Condon, OF (Etowah HS, GA): Condon has earned a reputation for thriving in the spotlight when the pressure is maxed out, including a recent two-homer performance in the Georgia playoffs. The left-handed swing is explosive and the athleticism helps him carry big tools to the ballpark each day with a chance to hit and hit for power in pro ball, which he's proving enough this spring to earn first-round consideration, which is now where we have him mocked. As it stands, he's hitting .495 for one of the top teams in the country with 17 doubles, nine home runs, and 37 RBIs with 13 steals and a 27:12 walk-to-K rate.
- Cade Townsend, RHP (Ole Miss): A likely first-round pick who checks every box: athleticism, delivery, arm action, stuff, pitchability, performance, according to our own David Seifert. The 6-foot-1 junior pumps a 95-97 mph fastball attached to a curveball that has opponents mightily struggling to barrel it. He also uses a 2,800-plus rpm slider, 86-87 mph, with a cutter, 88-91, and a change, 87-90. His five-pitch mix is thrown for strikes at an elite rate.
- Logan Reddemann, RHP (UCLA): The 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty repeats an athletic delivery well and he locates a mid-90s heater (T97 mph) with elite ride to both sides and at the top of the zone, collecting whiffs en masse. His top secondary is a deceptive tumbling 83-85 mph changeup that plays to both-handed hitters, as well as a cutter, sweeper, and a curve. An 18-K outing against Rutgers in early April helped launch him even further up draft boards.
- Cole Prosek, SS (Magnolia Heights HS, MS): Prosek was an interesting 'pick-to-click' type name in the preseason and he's completely broken out and into a budding first-rounder as it stands. In an athletic and cleaner 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame, he rocks to a power position with a longer stride, holds a still head through impact, and drives a heavy barrel with consistent lag and a two-handed finish. He's authoring one of the best statistical springs in the country with 17 home runs and counting so far.
- Aiden Robbins, OF (Texas): Robbins' ascent up this board has not slowed. He continues to gain steam given his strength of a coveted hit-and-power combination. The tools are loud enough that he projects as a clear day-one selection right now, with continued spring momentum possibly pushing him higher still. He transferred into Austin from Seton Hall, and his OPS from the Big East into the SEC looks virtually identical, from 1.189 in 2025 to 1.175 this season, and he's hit more homers this spring (18) than he had in his previous two college seasons combined (12 total).
- Hunter Dietz, LHP (Arkansas): Dietz became the first SEC arm to reach 100 strikeouts this season over the weekend, and his 6-foot-6, 235-pound frame has only drawn more eyes as the spring has worn on. He pairs a mid-90s fastball with plus secondaries, and he's got every ingredient required for a first-round selection in July.
- Blake Bryant, RHP (Citizens Christian HS, GA): Through April, Bryant has thrown 49 innings and he has 107 Ks against just eight walks and a 0.29 ERA. The Clemson commit has allowed just two earned runs all spring, with mid-90s velocity that holds deep into outings and clear physical projection remaining at 6-foot-5, 185 pounds. He spins two distinct breaking balls and has added a splitter with plus potential down the road. The crowds keep growing, and so does the case for a first-round selection in July.
