Our staff was in attendance for the VISAA State Championship games on Saturday. Here are some recaps and quick hits from all three VISAA divisions.
Division III:
Up first on Saturday was the top seeded Walsingham Academy Trojans versus the #2 seeded Carlisle Chiefs. This was a battle of the Trojans and Chiefs' top arms. Lincoln Lubsen (Randolph-Macon) would get the start for the Walsingham Trojans and the Chiefs would send out Campbell commit Garret Kangas. Walsingham would strike first on a Cody Christman single in the third inning. There would be no more scoring until the bottom of the sixth when Trojans' starter Lincoln Lubsen went big fly over the left field wall to make ti 2-0 Walsingham. Lubsen would come back out and throw a ten pitch inning to get the win and complete game shutout for the VISAA Division III State Championship. Lubsen struck out nine over seven innings, only surrendering two hits, and walking zero. Kangas scattered eight hits and struck out seven over six innings for the Chiefs.2021 @RMCJackets commit Lincoln Lubsen gets the start for @WATrojan today in the D3 #VISAAStates Championship

Division II:
The #1 Highland School Hawks took on the #2 seeded Greenbrier Christian Gators in the Division II Championship. The Hawks went up 2-0 in the first after the red hot Blake Cuddington (Virginia Wesleyan) had a two RBI single to left field. Highland struck again with a RBI single from Griffin Carroll in the bottom of the second to make it 3-0. Greenbrier would answer in a big way with a three run homerun by Ethan Ott (UNC-Pembroke) that would tie it up. The tie game would not stand up long, as Cuddington delivered again with a RBI single to make it 4-3 in the bottom of the third. The Hawks would extend their one run lead in the fourth to make it 5-3 and that would stand up until the top of the sixth. With the score 5-4, Greenbrier would send Joey Allen to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Allen got a 2-1 fastball up in the zone and did not miss. He laced a double to the left center field wall and it would clear the bases giving Greenbrier a lead that they would never relinquish. Gators' senior James McGrady (Western Carolina) threw six big innings in relief where he would only surrender two earned runs and retire six of the last eight hitters, sealing a 7-6 hard fought win for Greenbrier.

Division I:
What became a back and forth affair between the #1 St. Christopher Saints and #2 Benedictine Cadets did not start out that way. While the Cadets went up 1-0 in the top of the first, the Saints answered with a five run bottom half that was capped off by a Bradley Garner three run homerun on a 91 mph fastball from Cadets' starter Jay Woolfolk (UVA). Benedictine would narrow the 5-1 by one in the top of the third as Woolfolk would score on a Corey Adams ground ball. In the top of the fourth the Cadets would send Derrell Fletcher, a pinch hitter, to the plate with bases loaded and nobody out. Fletcher delivered in a big way with a bases clearing double that would knot it up at 5-5. Fletcher would later score on a passed ball to put Benedictine up 6-5. St. Chris would answer and tie it back up with a Carter Schmitt RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. Pete Bell would deliver a single later that inning to give the Saints the lead back at 7-6. Benedictine would answer back with a RBI single from Jay Woolfolk and the game would stay tied until the top of the seventh. In the top of the seventh Cadets' catcher Jackson Cray scored on a passed ball to give Benedictine a 8-7 lead. Daniel Lingle would once again throw some big pitches in some tough spots. Lingle scattered three hits over three innings of relief and a night after registering a save, he would register the win for the now Division I State Champion Benedictine Cadets in a 8-7 victory over the previously unbeaten St. Christopher Saints.2021 Jay Woofolk (@BCPBaseball)
