National Player of the Week: 3/17 to 3/23

By: Andy Sroka
Managing Editor, Scouting

Today, we’re announcing our fourth National Player of the Week of the 2025 campaign as just about the entire country is finally playing its high school ball now.

The following players were submitted by their coaches to our state directors and they went on to earn the Player or Pitcher of the Week award in those states. From there, we sifted through the country’s POTWs and selected the top performer among them, singling them out as the sole National Player of the Week. If you’re a coach interested in submitting a nomination this season but have not yet received that form so far this spring, visit our staff directory to find the contact information for the state director overseeing your state’s season coverage.

PREVIOUS WINNERS

Our staff took player stat lines from the week of March 17 to 23 into account when determining these awards.

“SS Jaxson Wood has been named the Mizuno Player of the Week after an impressive offensive performance, going 10-for-22 (.455) with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs, eight runs scored, and two stolen bases. A Tennessee recruit and the No. 3 prospect in Alabama’s 2026 class, Wood played a key role in leading the Bucs to a 4-1 record last week, helping them secure the No. 6 ranking in the Class 7A top-10 polls.”

David Sharp, Deep South Supervisor

Colorado

+ Carter Wilcox, LHP (Cherokee Trail HS, 2025) | Iowa:
“One of the most dominating arms out of Colorado at the moment is left-hander Carter Wilcox. The 2023 Future Games alumni and Iowa commit has now been seen up to 95 mph twice this spring, and just put together an outstanding start during his team's trip to Arizona. Against Saguaro, Wilcox tossed 5 innings with 14 Ks, 0 earned runs, 2 hits, and 2 walks allowed. The senior southpaw is certainly someone to watch close as he is actively developing and comes with a highly deceptive slider around 2,800 rpm to go with his electric fastball. ”

Caleb Dameron, Assistant Director

(5/24/24)

Florida

+ Javi Navas-Hoyer, RHP (Bloomingdale HS, 2026) | uncommitted:

Hudson Graham, State Director

(4/13/24)

Idaho

+ Beau Ramsey, RHP (Middleton HS HS, 2025) | Umpqua CC:
“25 RHP Beau Ramsey Middleton (Umpqua Commit), showed his dominance early this year. The Umpqua commit showed Tuesday what perfection looks like. Through five innings Ramsey struckout 11, gave up 0 hits, walked none, and secured a healthy win behind his offense that propelled the Vikings to a 12-0 win over Thunder Ridge.

Ramsey has started out strong this year in his two appearances he has an ERA of 0.00, 18 strikeouts, 2 walks, and only allowing 4 hits. STAT LINE: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K.”

Cam Black-Araujo

“25 OF Kolbe Coey OF Coeur D'Alene (Uncommitted) started strong in his first week of games. Over three games he managed to go 6 for 10 at the plate. He displayed his power and the work he did on his craft blasting 2 home runs in his first two games.

He added to that by scoring 6 runs himself, and 6 runs batted in. Coey is a football commit to Carroll College, but shows true potential on the baseball field as well. He displays that he is a key part of the line up with an impressive 1.936 OPS. STAT LINE: 6-for-10, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 HR, 2B.”

Cam Black-Araujo

Peter Hamot, Assistant Director Illinois/Wisconsin

(3/26/25)

+ Austin Rutter , INF (Sacred Heart-Griffin HS, 2027) | Uncommitted :
“Rutter made a splash in his varsity debut this past weekend, taking home our first 'Player of the Week' of the spring. He helped his team to a perfect 4-0 record on the week, finishing at a 7-for-11 clip with a home run, two triples, two doubles, 12 RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases. ”

Peter Hamot, Assistant Director Illinois/Wisconsin

Louisiana

+ Troy Green, RHP (Slidell HS, 2025) | LSU-Eunice:
“The LSU-Eunice recruit started off his senior year with a bang at our Slidell Scout Day, back in January, by running his fastball up to a personal-best 93 mph. Green has been virtually unhittable this spring for the Tigers and his start last week against Fontainebleau may have been his best. He earned the win against the Bulldogs after tossing a complete game one-hit shutout with only 1 walk and 15 strikeouts, as Slidell beat Fontainebleau by a score of 2-0. Over his last four starts, he's posted a 3-1 record and has racked up 46 strikeouts.”

Alex Armand, State Director

(1/27/25)

Matt Miller, State Director

Nevada

+ Caden Kirby, SS (Green Valley HS, 2025) | Nevada:
“Kirby continues to see his game ascend after another big week at the plate following his viral video of his massive homerun against Centennial that reach over 100K views. Hitting .366 on the year, this past week he put up some huge number going 8 for 18 with a homerun, two doubles and added 3 stolen bases on top of it.

The Nevada recruit has been the catalyst for the Gators this Spring and has been a staple in the heart of the Green Valley order over the past few years. Coming from Big League bloodelines, keep an eye on Kirby as a prospect who we expect to continue drumming up MLB Draft chatter. STAT LINE: 8-for-18, HR, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 3 SB.”

Cam Black-Araujo

+ Joseph Ponticello, RHP (Las Vegas HS, 2025) | Uncommitted:
“Ponticello continues to solidify himself as one of the, if not the, top arm available in Nevada's 2025 Class with another big performance on the mound. The Las Vegas has posted dominant numbers this Spring with a 3-0 record, striking out 40 over his 20.1 inning pitched with a .69 ERA.

His complete game effort against SECTA where he struck out 16 while allowing 0 runs. This is a player we expect to be off the board in the near future with a commitment announcement expected to come sooner rather than later. STAT LINE: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 16 K, 2 BB”

Cam Black-Araujo

North Carolina

+ Luke Hemric, LHP (Apex Friendship HS, 2025) | North Carolina State:
“Hemric started a key conference matchup vs. Green Hope HS, firing a no-hitter, leading Apex Friendship to a tight 4-0 victory. Hemric threw 100 pitches, even, in the win, 69% for strikes. He worked 7 innings, surrendering only 1 walk in facing 22 hitters, striking out 18.”

Winchester is a lean righty strike thrower that will be an important part of Sandy High School's spring season.”

“Sophomore Ryder Carpenter earns Hitter of the Week for week one of Oregon HS baseball after an impressive first game. The catcher slugged two home runs and a single, finishing 3-4 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. The uncommitted prospect was most recently seen at the PNW Preseason ID this February, and will be a player to keep an eye on this season.”

Dylan Grenz, Associate Scout

South Carolina

+ Jacob Pettit, OF (Fort Mill HS, 2025) | Lenoir Rhyne College:
“He had 4 home-runs last week, 3 in 1 game and one of those was a grand slam. He hit .667 last week with 8 RBIs, 5 runs. Went 9 for 12. .750 OBP, 2.750 OPS. ”
