National Player of the Week: 4/28 to 5/4
May 8, 2025
Today, we’re announcing our eighth National Player of the Week of the 2025 campaign, as the season already winds to a close in some states.
The following players were submitted by their coaches to our state directors and they went on to earn the Player or Pitcher of the Week award in those states. From there, we sifted through the country’s POTWs and selected the top performer among them, singling them out as the sole National Player of the Week. If you’re a coach interested in submitting a nomination this season but have not yet received that form so far this spring, visit our staff directory to find the contact information for the state director overseeing your state’s season coverage.
Our staff took player stat lines from the week of April 28 to May 4 into account when determining these awards.

Girod finished 9-for-13 with a home run, two triples and five doubles. The infielder also tallied 15 RBIs, six runs scored and three walks. Girod was last seen at PNW Preseason All-State this winter.” – Dylan Grenz, PNW Associate Scout |
STATE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Alabama
+ Tanner Hermesch, RHP/3B (Bob Jones HS, 2025) | Shelton State CC:
“Hermesch got the ball in Game One of the highly anticipated 7A state quarterfinals between No. 1 Hewitt-Trussville (No. 7 in Prep Baseball Top 50) and No. 2 Bob Jones and the senior turned in an outing for the ages in the Patriots 1-0, 10 inning victory. The right hander went all ten innings, getting the win while not allowing a run on seven hits. He walked only two while striking out 12. Bob Jones (36-10) went on to sweep the series and will be on the road at No. 7 Tuscaloosa County (30-12) in the 7A State semifinals this weekend.”
– David Sharp, Deep South Supervisor
California
+ Brady Estes, LHP (Whitney HS, 2025) | Cal Poly:
“Estes is California's Pitcher of the Week after a dominating 'Senior Day' performance to close out the regular season. Estes, a Cal Poly commit and MLB Draft prospect, has found his form as the Wildcats are eyeing a playoff run in the postseason.
Estes toed the rubber as Whitney was looking to extend their win streak to six games on Senior Day and did not disappoint, saving one of his best outings for his last regular season start. Estes went 6.1 innings pitched striking out 11, walking two, and allowing only one hit that came with one out in the seventh inning. He finished with a 67% strike percentage working through some command issues in the early goings of the game before settling in and dominating. He finished with four 1-2-3 innings in his outing.
For the season, Estes has started nine games and currently holds a 6-2 record with 47.1 innings pitched. He’s totalled 74 strikeouts against 29 walks allowing 12 earned runs on the season with a 1.77 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .166 against him.”
+ Aidan Young, OF (Villa Park HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“Young was the spark early and often out of the leadoff spot in the three victories for Villa Park last week. Whether it was driving in runs, scoring runs, or hitting balls out of the yard, Young seemed to do it all for the Spartans. Young finished the week going 8-for-12 (.667 BA), scoring five runs, driving in seven, and hitting two bombs (had one the prior week) as the Spartans rolled in all three wins over quality opponents.
Young’s hot hitting isn’t something that is recent for Villa Park. As the leadoff hitter for a playoff bound team, the 2024 West Coast Games standout is showing the hit tool that made him one of the best rising juniors heading into last summer. The junior is slashing .423/.761/1.299 for the season showing the type of consistency that has him as one of the more talked about recruits in his area.”
– Les Lukach, California State Director
Colorado
+ Josh Weaver, RHP/SS (Fruita Monument HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“Weaver needed just 84 pitches to take care of Grand Junction Central in perfect fashion across seven innings last week. The uncommitted junior racked up 14 strikeouts in this perfect game where he was simply untouchable. The 2024 Future Games alumni is actively developing on the mound right now with 32.1 innings, 44 Ks, 10 walks, 23 hits, and a 2.38 ERA at the 5A level. Weaver comes with a tall frame that has produced a fastball in the upper 80s from the right-side, while he also has two-way upside with his left-handed swing thanks to his .936 OPS across 75 plate appearances (6 XBH).”
– Caleb Dameron, Colorado Staff
Florida
+ Jacob Calton, 3B (Mount Dora Christian Academy HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“Calton, an uncommitted junior, had an outstanding week at the plate, going 7-for-8 with six RBIs, two home runs, five runs scored, and three stolen bases.”
+ Brayden Harris, RHP (St. Johns Country Day HS, 2026) | Florida State:
“Harris, a FSU recruit, won his start this week throwing seven innings with one hit, no runs, one walk, and 15 strikeouts, improving his season record to 9-0 and helping St. Johns to the Regional Finals.”
– Rocco Iervasi, Florida Director of Operations
Illinois
+ Lucas Grant, LHP (Joliet Catholic HS, 2025) | Purdue:
“Grant took down one of the top lineups in the state with a couple nationally ranked prospects – firing six shutout innings with just two hits allowed, 15 strikeouts and no walks.”
+ Gavin O'Neil, OF/RHP (Lake Park HS, 2025) | Harper JC:
“O'Neil hit for the cycle and earned the win on the mound in the same game, highlighting a 10-for-13 week with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine RBIs and six runs scored.”
– Peter Hamot, Assistant Scouting Director Illinois/Wisconsin
Indiana
+ Collin Osenbaugh, SS/RHP (Shenandoah HS, 2025) | Louisville:
“The Louisville recruit wins Indiana's Player of the Week honors for after shining on both sides of the ball. On the mound, Osenbaugh tossed a no-hitter where he allowed just one walk, and struck out 10. Offensively, the left-handed-hitting infielder went 6-for-12 and clubbed three home runs. Osenbaugh drove in 10 runs on the week while also scoring six runs of his own.”
– Cooper Trinkle, Indiana Scouting Director
Kansas
+ Michael Winter, RHP (Shawnee Mission East HS, 2025) | Dartmouth:
“The Dartmouth commit twirled his second consecutive no-hitter for the Lancers, coming just one walk shy of a perfect game. The right-hander is currently leading the way in the state’s Pitcher of the Year race.”
– Andy Urban, Regional Supervisor
Kentucky
+ Kole Grundy, 3B (Somerset HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“There was not much of a debate for the offensive award this week, as Grundy reached base each and every time he stepped in the box. A perfect 7-for-7 at the plate with two XBH and a walk, the physical righty picked up 10 total bases in just two games. With Grundy in the cleanup spot, the Briarjumpers' offense exploded early last week with a 21-run performance on Monday, the most Somerset has scored since March of 2022. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound two-way scored four and drove in three, then followed up with three more hits against Russell County to bring his weekly hit total to seven. Although it didn't matter for this award, Grundy pitched a complete game for the Briarjumpers, allowing just one run while striking out seven. He has legitimate two-way talent that is sure to compete at the next level.
The top ranked third baseman in the '26 class was a 2024 Future Games standout, showing a mature approach at the plate and the ability to consistently mash at exit velocities into the triple digits. Grundy has continued his late summer success through the high school season, and now boasts a team-leading .426 average with 26 H, 17 R, 15 RBI, 8 XBH and 11 BB.”
+ Dylan McIntyre, RHP/3B (Larry A. Ryle HS, 2025) | San Jacinto JC:
“Another one that wasn't much of a debate, as the preseason Pitcher of the Year contender tossed a perfect game last week. It was 21 up and 21 down for the San Jacinto JC commit, who tallied 13 strikeouts and threw only 74 pitches. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound two-way ran the fastball up to 93 mph in front of the Kentucky staff earlier this year, with a spin rate north of 2,400 rpm and fantastic command and feel.
With a 78-79 mph slider at over 2,750 rpm to complement the overbearing heater, it's no surprise at all that the righty has been setting records all year long for the Raiders. This was the first perfect game in program history, coming shortly after McIntyre became the all-time leader in appearances, wins and strikeouts. The senior two-way has been receiving draft looks this year, and definitely has one of the highest ceilings that any of our staff has seen.
The athletic two-way now leads the Raiders pitching staff with 30 IP, 21 H, 4 ER, 9 BB and 49 K for an impressive 0.93 ERA. McIntyre holds a 4-0 record as Ryle sits atop the 9th Region and is looking to make a postseason run in the next few weeks.”
– Jamie Tessoff, Kentucky Scouting Director
Louisiana
+ Miller Sheets, SS (Sterlington HS, 2026) | Baylor:
“The former Future Gamer and Baylor commit went off last weekend in the Panthers quarterfinal series win over French Settlement. Over the three-game series, Sheets went 6-for-12 (.500) with a grand slam, two doubles, four RBIs, and four runs scored. ”
– Alex Armand, Louisiana State Director
Minnesota
+ Jack Sims, RHP (Spectrum HS, 2025) | Uncommitted:
“The physical righty tossed a no-hitter last week against Triton, punching out 15 batters in seven near-perfect innings, with a walk as the only thing that stood between him and a perfect game.”
+ Riley Asmus, SS (Morris Area HS, 2026) | Creighton:
“Asmus had a huge week at the plate for Morris, tallying nine hits, six of which went for extra bases, including three home runs. He drove in a whopping 18 runs on the week as well, earning the state's Hitter of the Week award in the process.”
– Andy Judkins, Minnesota State Director
Nebraska
+ Drew Grego, SS/RHP (Bellevue West HS, 2025) | Nebraska:
“Grego had a massive week, going 14-for-23 with five home runs, a double, four steals and he produced nine RBIs and scored seven times. There was a span at the start of the week where Grego homered in four of five at-bats and he's also a name to know as a pitching prospect, too.”
+ Brady Ferguson, RHP (Millard West HS, 2025) | Iowa:
“Facing a top-10-ranked team in Nebraska, Ferguson was lights out. He went seven innings scoreless, allowing just one hit and he K'd 13.”
– Pascal Paul, Nebraska State Director
Nevada
+ Tate Southisene, SS (Basic Academy HS, 2025) | USC:
“Southisene, one of the top hitters in the region, hit .600 last week with two doubles and a home runs, driving in three runs total for Basic.”
+ Joseph Ponticello, RHP (Las Vegas HS, 2025) | Uncommitted:
“The uncommitted senior from Las Vegas High pitched a shutout and struck out seven batters in seven strong innings last week.”
– Brett Harrison, West Coast Supervisor
North Carolina
+ Maddox Greene, SS (Watauga HS, 2025) | Carson-Newman:
“Greene played a pivotal role in Watauga’s championship run last week, earning him recognition as the Prep Baseball NC Player of the Week. The Class of 2025 shortstop was instrumental in Watauga’s three-win week that culminated in a conference tournament title.
Greene delivered a standout performance in the championship game, going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. For the week, he finished 5-for-9 at the plate with a double, seven runs scored, and four RBI – providing both consistency and production in high-leverage moments.
A steady presence in the lineup and a leader on the field, Greene continues to be a key contributor for Watauga as they head into postseason play.”
+ Case Gibbs, LHP (Metrolina Christian HS, 2025) | Maryland:
“Gibbs delivered a dominant outing on the mound last week, earning him recognition as his state's Pitcher of the Week. The left-handed senior from Metrolina Christian Academy was electric in a six-inning performance against Concord Academy, allowing just two hits, no runs, and striking out 14 batters.
Gibbs has been a force all season, anchoring the Metrolina pitching staff with elite consistency and command. He currently boasts a perfect 10-0 record, complemented by a minuscule 0.38 ERA over 55 innings pitched. With 105 strikeouts on the year, Gibbs is averaging nearly two strikeouts per inning, underscoring his ability to overpower hitters and control the game.”
– Brandon Hall, Mid-Atlantic Supervisor
Oregon
+ Harrison Buckingham, RHP (South Salem HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“One of the top arms in Oregon's 2027 class, Buckingham led undefeated South Salem to a victory, going seven innings on the mound. The sophomore struck out 13, allowing just one hit and one walk while not allowing a run. The sophomore was up to 91 mph at PNW Preseason All-State this winter.”
– Dylan Grenz, PNW Associate Scout
Texas
+ Carter Williams, RHP/3B (Canyon Lake HS, 2025) | Texas Tech:
“The Texas Tech recruit earns Player of the Week honors following a phenomenal all-around showing. On the mound, Williams earned two wins, with six innings pitched, allowing just two hits while racking up 14 strikeouts.
At the plate, he was equally as impressive, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles, and 8 RBIs. He also drew three walks, crossed the plate six times, and was a constant threat in every at-bat. His explosive week showcased his talent on both sides of the ball and earned him Player of the Week honors for the Bi-District Round.”
– Brandon Gowins, Texas State Director
Washington
+ Jake Doman, INF (Glacier Peak HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“The junior had a standout offensive week to win 'HOTW' honors, going 7-for-8 overall. Doman had two doubles, three runs and an RBI as well. The Glacier Peak High product was most recently seen at the Central Washington Preseason ID this winter.”
+ Shane Johnson, LHP (Lake Washington HS, 2025) | Oregon:
“A top-10 ranked senior in the state, Johnson went seven innings without allowing a hit last week to win POTW honors. The Oregon commit struck out 12 and walked four in a dominant complete-game outing. The Future Games alum was most recently seen at PNW State Games last summer.”
– Dylan Grenz, PNW Associate Scout
Wisconsin
+ Jack Murray, OF (Brookfield East HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“Murray swung a hot bat for the Spartans last week going 10-for-18 helping his team to a 4-1 record for the week with the help of eight RBIs. On the year up to this point, Murray is hitting .556 with a 1.545 OPS while hitting three-hole for them this spring.
The junior is performing as one of the top middle of the order bats this spring. A physical hitter at the plate standing at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, with plenty of strength behind his powerful right-handed bat. Two-sport standout as well, as one of the top football players in the area.”
+ Tavian Shramek, RHP (Blair-Taylor HS, 2025) | Madison JC:
“Shramek has been one of the top performers in the WIAA the last two springs. On Tuesday, the senior struck out 15 batters across 5.2 innings allowing two hits and a walk, while eclipsing 400 career strikeouts during the outing.
As a junior while being named to our Third Team All-State, Shramek struck out 138 batters across 55 innings while allowing one earned run. This spring the senior is matching his performance, already throwing two no-hitters on the spring and accumulating 113 strikeouts across 44.2 innings while only allowing two earned runs in that span.
Shramek was one of the top uncommitted players in the state up until he committed to Madison JC before the spring. The right-hander has an advanced arsenal with three pitches from a unique and lower slot. Feel to locate each pitch in the zone with a heavy sinking fastball in the upper-80s and two secondaries that have looked like potential swing-and-miss offerings. The slider plays in the mid-70s with sharp sweeping action and the changeup plays with late diving action and can be effective against both handed batters.”
