Unruh had made some noise during his time at the 2025 California State Games, but placing the rising Central Valley based Soph. at an event filled with his own grad class he quickly stood out. Unruh measured in at 6'2 177.9 lbs. presently looking not only presently well developed, but boasting a frame which is going to add more strength in the future. While the potential for physicality in his profile is interesting it's the athleticism Walter combines with it that stood out including clocking a 6.74 60 yard time (The best of all California players in attendance) while adding 1.59 10 yard and 3.72 30 yard splits with a 20.3 MPH max run speed that have long term CF profile defender at the top of Unruh's defensive profile. For good measure he showed off an impressive 87 MPH present OF arm that gives him a RF backup option should he have to move out of CF at sometime in his career. As good as what Unruh did during the defensive/athletic portion of the event his offensive performance may even have been a tick better. Taking aggressive RH hacks at the dish he posted 22.9 MPH hand speeds, 72.9 MPH bat speed with 11.6 Gs of rotational acceleration on Blast Motion. The athleticism/strength in his swing combined with the feel for timing/approach he shows during batting practice produced some loud metrics for Walter. He peaked at 97.2 MPH on his exit velocity (Top 10 for players from California) while crushing a 375' max distance drive to the pullside of the field with 56% hard hit and 67% sweet spot rates.

Unruh is a pretty physical looking freshman and one of the top ranked players in the 2028 class, standing at 6’2” 181.9 lbs, his future is going to be bright. Unurh was a freshman on varsity this season at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno, CA. Aside from the size, Unruh ran an event best 6.96 second sixty-yard dash, with a max running speed of 19.7 mph, he also had a max jump height of 22.8 inches. Unruh has a lot of upside on the offensive side, his large frame gives him some juice, does a good job of using his lower half when he hits. Unruh had a max EV of 94.1 mph and an average of 87.1 mph during the hitting portion of the workout. With only being a freshman going into his sophomore year, I think Unruh will be a name you’ll be hearing about in the Central Valley, there is just something different in that Valley water down there. Centerfield and right field are where I see him being able to stick around, the outfield arm strength will come too, his max velocity in the defensive workout was 81 mph, where his ball showed it had some carry and kept the throws low. Unruh isn’t done growing either, there is still some more room for growth, excited to follow him over the summer/fall.
