2026 MLB Draft Board: Top-200, July Update

By Prep Baseball Draft HQ

The college and high school seasons are complete, the MLB Draft Combine is in the books, and we’re now just over a week from the 2026 MLB Draft, which begins Saturday, July 11 in Philadelphia. Here’s our final look at the Prep Baseball Draft HQ Top-200 where Georgia Tech backstop Vahn Lackey has climbed to No. 1 overall, edging UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky atop the board, while a wave of late-rising prep talent and draft-week signability questions reshape the tiers beneath them.

FROM THE HIP

+ On average, four or five of the top-30 prep prospects in the Prep Baseball overall rankings choose to head to campus instead of going the pro route. This year’s group is likely to follow that trend as top-100 prospects SS Rookie Shepard (NV; Miami), SS Will Yow (Virginia), and OF Nate Davis (LSU) have already removed their names from this year’s Draft. With that, there’s a strong foundation being laid for the future of the college game.

+ Expect prep right-handers to, once again, get pushed down the board while still collecting considerable signing bonuses. Last year, 10 players received seven-figure bonuses after 2024 delivered nine. Of those 19 total, one was selected in the first round (Seth Hernandez, 2024), two as supplemental first-rounders, four in the second round, three in the third, three in the fourth, three in the fifth, and then one in each of the seventh, 10th, and 11th.

+ Stanford has long been THE toughest place to pry a prep player away from, but No. 7-ranked SS Tyler Spangler (CA) and No. 19 SS Archer Horn (CA) present two of the biggest draft “risks” in recent memory for the program. Spangler had a chance to challenge for the first overall pick before an injury stunted the majority of his spring. Back to full strength now, the profile still warrants considerable financial investment, and the likelihood of the 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed getting to Palo Alto appears slim. Horn, on the other hand, might be the biggest first-round sleeper. In a year less dominated by prep shortstops, his elite athleticism and professional bat stand out. The price tag is likely high, but the “pay now or pay more later” moniker is clearly printed. Either of these two making it to campus would be a massive win for the Card, and provide a potential path as the top player to make it to campus.

(Archer Horn; 5/31/26)

+ With former Wake Forest recruiting coordinator, Bill Cilento, heading to South Carolina, it presents a more unsettling case for what was set to be a potential top-five prep recruiting class for the Demon Deacons. No. 3-ranked LHP Carson Bolemon (SC), No. 28 SS Ethan Bass (IL), and No. 33 RHP Ethan Wachsmann (CO) all hold strong top-40 pick potential, but toe the line of financial thresholds. Bolemon is a top-10 talent, but would also be a draft-eligible sophomore, so there is a chance that he might want to bet on himself as a college performer. Bass is one of the most dynamic players in the prep class and is sure to be an alluring talent for clubs to add to their farm system. Finally, Wachsmann and his triple-digit heater will likely gain attention starting in the supplemental first-round, but his upside out of college would place him in the upper echelon of the first round. Odds are that all three will sign, though.

(Carson Bolemon; 4/30/26)

+ A cluster of prep outfielders appears to be jockeying for similar real estate on draft boards: No. 36-ranked OF Noah Wilson (Vanderbilt), No. 40-ranked OF Andruw Giles (Oregon), No. 41 OF Anthony Murphy (LSU), No. 42 OF Brady Harris (Florida), and No. 43 OF Malachi Washington (LSU) all carry heavy Day One intrigue. More than most demographic groups in this class, these players represent the ongoing push-and-pull between beginning a professional career and honoring strong college commitments. The recent track record only reinforces that decision. This year's college crop features former prep outfielders who entered the draft with similar profiles, including presumptive first-rounders Drew Burress (Georgia Tech) and Derek Curiel (LSU), along with potential first-rounder Sawyer Strosnider (TCU). As always, bonus pools will ultimately dictate many of these outcomes, but the continued growth of NIL opportunities has created more leverage, and more difficult decisions, for players and clubs alike.

(Noah Wilson; 3/26/26)
