2026 Senior Future Games: Data Darlings

Nearly 500 NCAA Division-I coaches were in attendance for the third annual Senior Future Games, Prep Baseball's marquee stage for the uncommitted Class of 2027. Below you'll find a new data-driven way to review this year's event. The fastest rising seniors have been sorted not just by how good they are today, but by how much more there is to come, powered by our partners at TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance. Last summer, a shortstop named Jace Mataczynski (Hudson HS, WI) arrived at these games, left as MVP, committed to Auburn shortly after, and then he just heard his name called in the third round of the MLB Draft earlier this month. He went from underrecruited a year ago to signing a $2 million bonus with the Red Sox just 12 months later.

That arc is why this event matters more and more every summer, and why the '27s still available this week shouldn't be considered just leftovers.

PRESENT PRODUCTION + BRIGHT FUTURES 🔮

Throughout this piece, we'll be referencing the top performers' EVs of all kinds. But it's important that we kind of put exit velocity into perspective for this group and how we utilize it to evaluate present performers and combine it to projection on players with bright futures.

Exit velocity is, crudely, based on how big a hitter is (mass) and how fast he swings (bat speed). Across our nearly 200 tracked hitters at the SFGs, we're dealing with players still in high school generating some pretty substantial power for their age range while inherently demonstrating more to come as they continue to physically mature and develop over the course of the next two or three years, especially. So, there's more mass to come while their measured bat speed can be considered banked capital.

For reference, the median Division I regular tops out around 107.5 mph. We had some 2027s reaching that number in the showcase setting of the SFGs last week (eight hitters recorded a 105-plus mph EV in-game, too). So what we're going to in this exercise is measure the hitters generating power who also check many other boxes, be it bat handedness, twitch, bat speed, rotational acceleration, positional value, etc.

One other aspect we're attempting to calculate today is these players' "runway," or how much good weight these players are still yet capable of adding in the coming years. If they're productive and powerful already with sizable runway left physically, well then we're in a pretty special area of talent that warrants attention from college coaches and even professional scouts.

On the runway 🛫

Projectable is one of the most commonly seen buzzwords thrown around on social media and scouting reports, so it's good to know review ways in which we can view it and consider it a little bit more concretely. For this exercise, we're going to call the remaining physical projection belonging to a player his Runway.

Runway is the good weight a frame still has to add, and it starts with his measured height and weight. A hitter's height sets the ceiling of what his frame can eventually (and reasonably) carry, while his current weight tells you how much of that ceiling is already filled. A lean 6-foot-2 shortstop and a filled-out 5-foot-9 second baseman can post the same exit velo today and have completely different futures, because one might have 30 pounds of college strength coming and the other is close to his physical peak.

So we estimate a mature, filled-out weight for each player's height (leaner for up-the-middle types who need to stay rangy, fuller for corner bats built to mash), measure the gap to where he is now, and translate it. Each pound of good weight is worth roughly a slight increase in raw exit velocity, but that slight increase compounds as the player's added mass is boosted by the increase his strength and subsequent bat speed too.

The profile to monitor is Runway plus Twitch. A frame's Runway tells you the mass is coming, while twitch can tell you that the player has the engine and athleticism to make the most of his physicality. Twitch is another buzzword-type term that's all over the place online, but there are ways to define it. Let's call Twitch a reactive explosiveness, quantified using athletic testing metrics collected at the SFGs, like various jump tests and run tests.

A projectable frame attached to elite twitch is the bet, and if these are also players who are presently performing against their peers offensively, then college coaches may as well bookmark their names now if they haven't called them already.

We attempted to sort every position player on two axes by examining their present polish, their existing Runway, and their measured tools. We actually classified catchers a little differently and evaluated them separately, which you'll see for yourself below. Check out some of our most notable findings from the SFGs below.

Future Stars | Need-to-Know Prospects

These players are showing premium up-the-middle value on defense with elite offensive traits and a swing that has shown the ability to control the zone and limit whiffs. Premium defense, at least some twitch/athleticism, with a clean offensive outlook combine to make them some of the most valuable players exiting the Senior Future Games.

This was the highest scoring player across several of our evaluations, at least metrically. Dada is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds with elite twitch (6.44s 60-yard; 33-inch peak vertical jump) with top-of-the-scale bat speed which just combines itself into some of the loudest batted balls during the SFG's Workout Day, where he averaged 93.8 mph EV. There's work yet to do to refine the skill set, but Dada didn't whiff much in-game helping signal scenarios in which he's able to access his huge right-handed power potential in-game on the regular.

Logan grubbs (Bishop Gorman HS, NV) / OF / 1B
If Dada was the top overall scorer in this category, Grubbs can claim the loudest overall performance offensively. As a massive 6-foot-6, 209-pound left-handed hitter, Grubbs posted a class-best 100.6 mph average exit velocity across his Workout Day swings, a mark that speaks to how repeatable the thump is, and then backed it in games with a 105.3 mph in-game max EV. And there's still projection left on top of it, with 20-plus pounds of Runway on a frame that already produces at the very top of the class. Enormous raw power, an 88 mph arm, and the rare profile of a huge present output with more physically still on the way.

Spring-Loaded | The Future Looks Bright

These players belong in, depending on your point of view, the most exciting bucket from our research. These players check the boxes now and carry major Runway, meaning there's present production and performance with remaining physicality yet to develop in the coming years, or they have elite Twitch that will help them continue to lift their own ceilings.

Parker Lipp (Jesuit HS, CA) / 1B / LHP
This year's Senior Future Games MVP is nowhere near his ceiling. He tied for the event's lead in extra-base hits (4), including a home run, and he also punched out four batters in two clean innings while sitting 87-89 mph (T89.5). Lipp is a lean, athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound left/left prospect from California who impressed first metrically at Tuesday's SFG Workout Day before performing at a high-level when gameplay began soon after. He ran a 6.81 with a 1.63 split at the 10-yard mark before showing a quick, loose left-handed swing during BP that lit up the Blast board, with 72.6 mph average bat speed (20.8 avg. RA), that resulted a 104.5 mph max EV. His in-game max EV was captured at 101.3 mph as well. On the mound, he touched 89.5 mph and K'd four batters in total, across two frames.

Minnesota representing (Martin, Evenson, Feller & Reeder)
Four Minnesota bats landed on the Spring-Loaded board, and they showed up with different flavors of the same profile. OF Caleb Martin (6-foot-2, 182; video below) is the headliner here, with a 104.7 mph max EV, a 6.81s 60-yard time, and a top-of-class Twitch score (80) that carried into games as a 101.6 in-game max EV, 73.8 mph avg. bat speed, all on a frame with 25-plus pounds still to add. 3B Ben Evenson (6-foot-4, 208) brought the loudest bat speed of the group at 78.1 mph and a plus 90 mph arm from the infield. OF Isaac Feller (6-foot, 167) comfortably led the event with the lowest 60-yard dash time (6.30) with some of the best Twitch (78) as yet another left-handed hitter with big physical upside. And Lincoln Reeder (6-foot-2, 174) may own the best pure feel to hit of the bunch, pairing a 12.5% whiff rate while carrying the most Runway in the group, yet still carrying real bat speed and strength as it stands. These are four different players in profile but each carries next-level phyiscal projection with tools that are already showing up in game.

Lotto Tickets | Explosive Tools, With Some Risk

These players flashed some of the loudest, rarest tools at the entire event, elite Twitch, top-end speed, or huge raw power. With that, each comes with a question mark attached, usually a hit tool or swing decisions that still need refining. This type of mix generally produces the widest range of outcomes at the next level and beyond. If the bat catches up to the athleticism, you're looking at All-American outcomes. If it doesn't, the risk is real. For a development-minded staff willing to bet on the tools, this is where the highest-upside swings in the class live.

Craft might be approaching his physical ceiling at a muscled-up 5-foot-10, 209 pounds, but don't let that steer you away from his Twitch (96), which was the highest scoring of the SFGs. It's an explosive right-handed swing with bat speed (73.4 mph avg.) and rotational acceleration (15.2g avg.) combined with a swing that's compact and tight through the zone; he averaged an exit speed of 98.0 mph in BP (100.9 max). Craft did K four times, however, which is what has him inside this Lotto Ticket category, but he checks so many other boxes that he's certainly worth following into the fall.

Sleepers | They Just Hit

These are the mirror image of the Lotto Tickets, the players whose measurables might not leap off the page, but whose results do. Quiet tools, loud production: the lowest whiff rates on our board, high sweet-spot rates, and a knack for finding barrels and base hits. These are the overlooked producers a good development staff turns into steals down the line, and the best of them still have a little Runway left in the tank to dream on.

Michna tallied four hits at the SFGs, two of which were triples, and it's simply a collection of solid tools all-around and after a stellar spring season, he continued to perform on this next brightest stage. Michna was constantly a competitive at-bat with low whiff and an on-plane left-handed swing that recorded a 97.9 mph max EV in-game, too. Currrently a little light on bat speed, but otherwise checks every box while projecting like a solid corner outfielder defensively as well.

Crews albritton (Tri-County Academy HS, MS) / OF
Albritton was one of the top performers at the SFGs once gameplay began, going 5-for-8 with three extra-base knocks, including a homer. He checked a ton of boxes metrically as well, with a 102.7 max EV that reached a 100.7 high in-game. Plus, there's a little bit of Runway left here physically and Albritton is a left-handed bat with 6.68 speed and burst. There's a lot to like here with the top uncommitted senior from Mississippi.
BEHIND THE PLATE: THE BACKSTOPS

Catchers are their own conversation for this article's purposes, and we think that makes the most sense. Showcase metrics and data aren't yet capturing just how well catchers are receiving the ball, calling pitches, blocking, etc. So below, we're taking a look at some of the best offensive-minded backstops who appear to at least meet the standards it takes to catch college pitching regularly.

Rocco Triolo (Lincoln-Way East HS, IL) / C / OF
Triolo has one of the most complete catcher profiles from the SFGs. The 6-foot, 189-pound right-handed hitter pairs a 102 mph max EV with a repeatable 96 mph average EV, and a 87 mph, plenty to control a running game from behind the plate. What sets him apart from the other power-hitting backstops is the hit tool: a 17% whiff rate and he was all over the barrel in-game, with four hits for Team Heartland including an opposite-field home run as well as a double. The defense is good behind the plate and he's actually talented enough to look like an outfielder if that's his preferred path, ultimately.

Tyce Thompson (South Central HS, NC) / C
Thompson's 108 mph max EV led the enitre event. He's a strong, physically mature 6-foot-1, 208-pound frame and he uses it to leverage hard contact from the right side and he's also armed with an 82 mph arm from the chute. He whiffed at a pretty normal rate in this setting, which is encouraging all things considered for a player this physical. A smart approach can help him maximize his inherent strength. Power like this from behind the plate is scarce, and he can really thrive at the next level if it all comes together.

Colton Karkau (Ravenwood HS, TN) / C
Karkau is a 6.70 runner with body control and twitch that's hard to find at catcher. Offensively, his right-handed swing registered a 102 mph max EV with a 98 mph average EV. He gets to this power in a lean, projectable 6-foot, 172-pound frame that contains the most Runway from any other player in this group. Present power, elite catcher athleticism, and the physical projection to keep climbing, Karkau is as exciting a foundation piece as any senior backstop brought to LakePoint.
