GAME RECAP
BISHOP MANOGUE (13) - DAMONTE RANCH (11)
The matchup between Bishop Manogue and Damonte Ranch was set to be another pitchers dual with a pair of Uncommitted arms in the Mustangs’ 2022 RHP, Eric Valdez, and the Miners 2023 RHP, Tanner Hail. Through the first three innings, both arms were efficient as Valdez struck out 5 through his first three innings of work while the 6-foot-3 Hail allowed only one run through his first 3, striking out 2 with a mostly fastball/slider mix that ran up to 85 mph on a frigid, windy afternoon, projecting to add a few mph’s later this season as things continue to warm up. The 4th is where things started to turn, 2021 Future Games participant and Uncommitted 2023 UT, Sam Kane, came up with a go ahead double to left field that brought in 2 for the Miners who added 4 more later in the inning as they continued to put pressure on the Damonte Ranch defense. In the bottom of the 5th, the Mustang bats came to life as they put up 4 runs of their own behind the bats of their top 4 hitters: Eddie Tierney (Nevada), Jakob Van Blaricom (Uncommitted), Dylan Rogers (UNLV) and Eric Valdez (Uncommitted). Bishop Manogue’s top overall prospect and Nevada Signee, Logan Pruski, singled up the middle to add to the lead in the top of the 6th. DR’s athletic, Uncommitted 2022 outfielder, Van Blaricom, has proved throughout this Spring that his left handed bat could translate to the next level and he continued to prove that in yesterday’s competition with a clutch, opposite field triple to bring in a run and keep the game tight to cap off a 4 for 5 day at the plate. Neither side was ready to go home as they went 11 innings with each teams top half of the lineup coming up huge in the most critical moments with Bishop Manogue coming away with the 13-11 victory and setting up what is expected to be an electric Round 3 between these two teams in the quickly approaching playoffs.
