Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Pleasant Valley enters the 2026 season riding momentum after a breakthrough 2025 campaign that saw the Raiders capture their first area championship since 2008, finish undefeated in area play, and host a first-round playoff game. The Raiders went 17-10 overall and continued to establish themselves as one of the most consistent offensive programs in Class 2A, averaging more than 10 runs per game last season and maintaining that mark over the past three years. With a roster built primarily around seniors and juniors, supplemented by talented underclassmen, Pleasant Valley heads into 2026 with expectations elevated and postseason aspirations clearly defined.

Offensively, the Raiders return several key contributors who fit seamlessly into a fast-paced, run-producing identity. OF Peyton Mann (2026) provides athleticism and experience in the outfield, while INF/RHP Wesley Wheeler (2026) brings leadership and versatility on both sides of the ball. One of the most exciting long-term pieces in the lineup is INF/RHP Dallas Roper (2029), a young two-way contributor who already plays a meaningful role in the Raiders’ offensive attack. C/INF Dixon Duncan (2028) adds flexibility behind the plate and around the infield, while INF Cooper Dougal (2027) and RHP Jake Barnwell (2027) round out a core that has logged significant varsity innings and understands the demands of area play. While offense remains the calling card of the program, Pleasant Valley’s leadership and experience stand out just as prominently. The roster composition, heavy with seniors and juniors, allows the Raiders to pair physical maturity with game awareness, while younger contributors continue to gain valuable reps. UTL Landon Beason (2028) adds another versatile piece who can be deployed in multiple roles as needed, further strengthening lineup depth.

With an established offensive identity, experienced leadership, and a roster that has already tasted postseason success, Pleasant Valley enters 2026 aiming to build on last year’s breakthrough and push deeper into the playoffs. As head coach Dalton Turner notes, “We are looking forward to the 2026 season as one that this program will take the next step. Last season we broke through by winning an area championship and hosting a first-round playoff game with a young team. This team has goals of making a deep playoff run this season, while continuing to set the standard of play for future teams.” With production returning and expectations rising, the Raiders are well positioned to remain a factor in Class 2A Area 13.
