Prep Baseball Minnesota: 10 Electric Moments in 2025
December 15, 2025
MINNESOTA, USA - In the land of 10,000 lakes, high school ball players shined in 2025. The cold winter month geared players up for the chill of the high school season, with Baseball Day Minnesota, gritty section playoff games and a wild State Tournament. After the chill, players didn't slow down for the summer with the State Games and marquee Future Games event in late July. Breakout performances happened, players got their names on the map of college coaches, and many committed to play baseball at the next level. Neadless to say 2025 was ELECTRIC for baseball in Minnesota.
We want to thank the players, parents, high school coaches, club coaches and our staff for this year. Without you, baseball would not thrive as much as it does here in Minnesota.
Here are our staffs picks for the 10 most electric moments in 2025.
10: ALEXANDER KAKACH SHINES AT LAKEPOINT
Alexander Kakach earned himself a shot to play at the next level this year at the 2025 Future Games. The junior from Wayzata showcased a blistering fastball in the upper 80s with cut, and a sweeping slider in the low 80s. Shortly after dominating the Pacific Northwest hitters at the Future Games, Kakach went on to commit to Creighton. Kakach is ranked number 5 in Minnesota's class of 2027 and 451 in the Prep Baseball National Rankings.

9: BUTTERWORTH SIZZLES AT TARGET FIELD
In the 2025 State Championship Game, Minnetonka's Jack Butterworth showcased one of the top live arms of 2025. Butterworth’s fastball sat 90-92, getting up to 93 multiple times. Jack tore through a loaded Cretin-Derham Hall order with his low 80s sweeping slider. Butterworth is currently a freshman at Arizona State.

8: JOEY LIMRIC SHOWS OUT AT BASEBALL DAY
Baseball Day Minnesota 2025 had a chill in the air, but that didn’t stop Maple Grove's Joey Limric from heating up Lions Field. The 2026 outfielder got the call up to varsity nine days prior and in the words of Rob Allison “he impacted the game.” Limric made two highlight reel catches in center field for his pitcher Evan O’Dwyer. Joey also collected an RBI knock in the contest, leading the Crimson to a victory at Baseball Day. Limric is still uncommitted in the class of 2026, who showed clear gamer traits that day.

7: WBL WALKS OFF STILLWATER IN SECTIONS
White Bear Lake and Stillwater faced off in a gritty section quarterfinal game. Two Future Games arms squared off in Sullivan Conlin (2026) and Jackson Kolb (2027), both hell bent on advancing in the gauntlet that is section 4AAAA. White Bear Lake had the lead going into the 7th, until the Ponies tied it up on a wild pitch. Going into the bottom of the 7th, two now-college ballplayers rang the bell. Tyler Allshouse single, Owen Farrington smashed a double down the left field line to send WBL to the section semi-finals, and all fans in attendance went into an absolute frenzy.

6: GEISLINGER SHOWS OUT AT SR. FUTURE GAMES
Brody Geislinger made his mark in Atlanta in late July with a legit two-way promise. On the mound, Brody ran his fastball up to 90.8, showing three offspeed pitches in his SL/CB/CH. In the same game, Geislinger touched a baseball for a no-doubt, pull-side jimmy jack. Geislinger went on to commit to Iowa Central, where he will undoubtedly stay a two-way prospect for the time being.

5: BASEBALL DAY MINNESOTA 2025
Waconia did its best impression of late-March baseball in late May, and Mother Nature seemed intent on testing everyone’s resolve. The week swung from summer heat to arctic cosplay. But this is Minnesota, where Duluth Marshall treats 40-degree baseball like a birthright and Montevideo players step off the bus already layered like ice fishermen. The cold didn’t slow the competition, it just added a little grit to the spectacle.
And the spectacle never stopped. Thousands filed into the $1.7 million grandstand, volunteers orchestrated a small city’s worth of operations, and the mascots—Mudonna and TC Bear—played crowd-therapists for the frozen faithful. What followed was a full day of high-quality baseball across four games: Duluth Marshall edged Montevideo behind a staggering 15-strikeout, one-hitter from Owen Marsolek; Perham held off Rockford thanks to a huge day from Drew Ellingson and a late lockdown from Ashton Detloff; Maple Grove smothered Mounds View with clean pitching and a homer from Connor Johnson; and host Waconia capped the night with a gutsy performance from St. Thomas commit Lucas Langin to beat Chaska.
Across every matchup, the committed guys showed why college programs have already staked their claims—Marsolek’s pitchability, Berrisford’s physicality, Binnebose’s splitter, Killian’s high-spin slider—while the uncommitted crowd made their own noise. Griffin Epema touched 88 with a wipeout breaker. Ellingson brought tempo and electricity. Limric flashed game-changing athleticism for Maple Grove. And Chaska’s Owen Strey continues to look like a no-brainer future commit. In a day defined by cold, Baseball Day Minnesota proved once again that the state’s baseball talent stays hot regardless of whatever the weather app decides to throw at it.

4: MINNESOTA TAKES 2ND IN JR. FUTURE GAMES
The 2029s for Team Minnesota brought energy, spunk, fire, or whatever adjective you want to throw in to describe a team of winners. With a mix of ballplayers from Minnesota and the Dakotas, the young guns would not be denied. The boys would go 2-0 in pool play, bulldozing their way through bracket play, ending up 5-0 going into the championship game. Ultimately, Minnesota would lose to a talented Tennessee squad, earning second in the tournament.
Despite the result, the team never wavered, screaming their lungs out with their slogan “FIRE ME UP” every inning. Watching these boys grow and develop as ballplayers is going to be exciting throughout their high school careers.

3: HAYDEN VUCINOVICH PATH TO THE DRAFT
Hayden Vucinovich had a very interesting path getting to where he is now. In 2024 Vucinovich was sitting in the mid-80s with his fastball velocity, topping out at 87 at the Minnesota State Games. In October of 2024 he committed to the Division II Program Concordia-St. Paul. Throughout his offseason training, our staff heard reports and saw video of Hayden creeping into the mid-90s with his fastball, prompting Prep Baseball to invite him to the 2025 Midwest Procase.
Hayden proceeded to light up the radar gun, running his fastball up to 95.5, not dipping below 94 MPH. Hayden would soon flip his commitment to Minnesota. In mid-July Hayden was selected in the Brewers in the 8th round of the MLB draft.

2: THE WORLD FAMOUS "DOUBLE NO HITTER"
One of the sickest and bizarre moments on a baseball field happened at the class 3A state semifinal matchup. Jack Scanlon (2025) and Keaton Wojcik (2027) squared off at the Mini Met in Jordan, with hopes of sending their squads to a championship game at Target Field. Both arms shoved, allowing no hits. Mankato East would ultimately win the game 2-0 with Wojcik the winning pitcher.
Wojcik is currently committed to Iowa while Scanlon is a freshman at St. Thomas.

1: BLAKE BULLIS MAKES THE PLAY OF THE YEAR
In the top of the seventh inning of the 4A state championship, Blake Bullis delivered the highlight of his career. Chasing a foul ball down the third-base line, he weaved over the tarp and made an unbelievable grab – the kind of play worthy of national attention. Moments later, the Raiders finished the job and secured the state title. Bullis is currently a freshman at St. Scholastica in Duluth.
