On the Hunt: Young Impact Arms

The summer is quickly approaching, and that means that the recruiting trail is about to heat up. This week, On the Hunt, focusses on some young arms that are ready to make their mark on the summer. Included are seven pitchers (two left-handers) with several being potential two-way players at the next level. Each will have a chance to help out a program at a high-level. Players from IL/OK/MN/MO/NC/OK/WI are represented.

Luke Fox LHP / Catholic Memorial, WI / 2020The buzz coming out of Wisconsin about Luke Fox appears to be warranted. The young left-hander has a developing, 5-foot-11, 161-pound frame, and looks like he will stretch out some more in the next few years. His loose left arm has allowed Fox to run his fastball up to 84 mph this spring, and he shows signs of being even higher as the weather continues to improve. Working through a simple delivery, Fox remains linear while going down the mound before his longish arm swing quickly delivers out of a tough, true ¾ slot. He repeats it all with ease and little effort. Fox’s curveball takes 1/7 shape at, a firm, 72-73, and he shows the necessary feel to project it as a future above average pitch. Also featuring a changeup (77 mph), it is a developing pitch right now that shows more cutting action than fade. Overall, Fox’s loose left arm should be more than enough to draw recruiter’s attentions, and combined with his tough ¾ slot and polished delivery, he should be gathering crowds of coaches throughout the summer.
