DIRECTOR NOTES
PALO VERDE (13) - CORONADO (3)
The Palo Verde Panthers continued their big week taking down #4 ranked Centennial on Tuesday and now taking down the #5 ranked Coronado Cougars with a 13-3 victory behind a stellar performances on the mound by College of Southern Nevada signee, Kaiden Smaka, and a huge day at the plate by Yakima Valley Recruit, Kyle Williamson, who earned Player of the Game for his effort. Smaka took control early as the lefty struck out the side in the top of the first with his three pitch mix (FB/CB/CH) working effectively in the zone to keep the Cougar bats off balance, carrying that through a scoreless 4.0 IP, striking out 8 along the way. Williamson has steadily climbed in the PV lineup throughout the Spring, now up to the #4 spot in the order, he doubled in the bottom of their five run first bringing in two and keep the line moving, then added on a few more in the bottom of the second with a no doubt shot over the left field wall to extend the lead to 7-0. In the 3rd, they continued to put pressure on the Coronado defense and play sound baseball as the put up another five spot. Coronado being Coronado did not go away quietly, making some youthful lineup changes that seemed to ignite the squad as 2024 IF/RHP, Jase Pashales, enters the game and hits a three run homerun for his first of the year, cutting into the lead and keeping the Cougars alive. However, Palo was able to answer in the bottom half, putting up the mercy rule enforcing run that sealed the win for the streaking Panthers.
