MS HS Team Preview: Saltillo Tigers

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each MHSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Saltillo returns 3 positional starters and 2 pitchers from a team that finished 28-10 after a loss to East Central in the 5A State Championship at Trustmark Park. Head Coach Eric Reynolds will rely on gained experience as his Tigers look to make another deep playoff run in 2023. 

Top returners for Saltillo include juniors Baylor Roberts (SS - Former Future Gamer and University of Alabama Birmingham recruit), Smythe McCoy (OF), Wilson Rodriguez (OF/P), and Jordan Evers (P/OF). 

Other players Coach Reynolds will count on are senior Will Lipscomb (P/3B), juniors Jack Adams (OF), Dawson Arriola (OF), Ethan Arriola (Catcher), Cooper Burleson (CI/P), and Ben Monaghan (CI/P).

The Tiger program looks strong over the next several years with a host of underclassmen Coach Reynolds is excited about. They include sophomores Cody Carnathan (P/OF), Cooper Childs (OF), Levin Darsey (INF), and Easton Reynolds (P/1B), along with freshmen Maddox Arriola (P/1B), Brayden Dewett (INF), Presley Ellis (P/OF), Logan Heisel (Catcher), Madden McKissick (INF), Tucker Phillips (OF), Cameron Rodgers (P/INF), and E-Jay Rogers (OF).
