Impact 20: Texas State Games (2025 Underclass)

The inaugural Texas State Games that took place in October of 2022 set the foundation for what the event has exploded into. At that event were more than $5 million is signing bonuses, a handful of the top prospects to make it to campus in the past two classes, and a smattering of the nation’s top budding stars in the ‘25 and ‘26 classes.

Fast forward three years and the Lone Star State’s immense talent forced the implementation of an Underclass State Games meant to introduce the recruiting world to the next wave of impact players. This year’s event found its home on the campus of Sam Houston State. Nearly 100 of the top up-and-coming players in the 2028 & 2029 class came together for a two-day event that provided a pristine experience thanks to a multitude of opportunities to perform. Routinely producing some of the best talent in the country, the state of Texas did not disappoint, and the event was packed with talent.

While NCAA recruiting rules have curtailed commitments, it has not stopped premier programs from intently building follow lists among underclassmen. In order to maintain a winning edge, these programs are building strong databases with hopes of hitting the ground running for in person evaluations throughout the spring and summer. With that being said, below is an Impact 20 List of 2028 & 2029s from the Texas Underclass State Games.

Maddox Bryant 3B / RHP / Kingwood, TX / 2029

Bryant’s impactful weekend is likely to serve as the jumping off point for his status as one of the top young hitters in the class. An athletic 6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitter, his simple, loose-wristed approach provided a look at one of the sweetest pure swings in the country, and one that aligned eerily similar to fellow Houston native and Mississippi State standout, Ace Reese. Tight turns of a heavy barrel with natural strength in the forearms and hands, Bryant did not need much to move the barrel in a hurry while manipulating it accurately throughout the weekend. More of a versatile defender, the glove played confidently with a strong arm (he also hopped on the mound as a competitor) and he should have a chance to stick at third base long term with the potentially to shift to second if necessary. More than the pure tools was the quiet confidence and moxie that he carried to the plate in each at-bat. Slowing the game down with effortless takes, his loud home run in a difficult left-on-left matchup was the marquee moment of the event.
