Who was the top uncommitted performer in 2025?

By: Andy Sroka
National Managing Editor, Scouting

The ‘Hotlist’ is a series that provides weekly insight into the high school baseball scene spanning the country, curated by Prep Baseball’s state directors who are situated nationwide, with vital intel on the prospects who are in their own backyards. Each week, we’ll publish our ‘Hotlist’ on varying topics that are timeliest to the national baseball calendar at that point in time.

This week’s topic: This week, we’re highlighting the Top Uncommitted Performers of 2025. Please submit a prospect (or a few) from your state who remains uncommitted yet continues to stand out through their performance. Whether it was at a showcase, tournament, or a look earlier this year, include where you saw them and what makes them one of your state’s top uncommitted names to know.

♨️ The ‘Hotlist’ (12/5):

Alabama

(1/18/25)

+ Layton Pohl, RHP (New Hope HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Pohl is an explosive athlete with true two-way potential, but the upside on the mound is especially enticing. The former Future Gamer is working his way back from injury and is poised for a big spring for the New Hope Indians. Prior to the setback, the senior right-hander sat in the low-90s (touching 93) and featured two distinct breaking balls. Early returns post-injury indicate an uptick in fastball velocity.

His slider currently profiles as the better of the two breakers, a firm 76–80 mph offering with tight, horizontal action and an average spin rate of 2,263 RPM. The curveball shows more 11–5 shape with sweeping movement at 74–75 mph, spinning at an average of 2,198 RPM. Pohl also flashes feel for a 79–80 mph changeup with 15.4 inches of average horizontal fade.”

David Sharp, Deep South Supervisor

California

+ Kyle Casey, LHP (Simi Valley High School HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“We are looking at SoCal '26 LHP Kyle Casey from Simi Valley High School in Simi Valley, Calif. The North Los Angeles area based southpaw has been one of the prominent arms for the Pioneers program for two springs with some eye-popping numbers. In 2024 as a Soph., he threw 31.2 innings with 25 Ks and only seven walks on the spring. Opponents hit just .175 against him in 2024 while he posted a 2.43 ERA picking up one win on the spring. Then in 2025 he slid into the top starter role for the Coastal Canyon League champions by throwing 69 innings on the year with 67 strikeouts against only 11 walks showing his impressive control of the strike zone with quality stuff. Casey won nine games against zero losses on the year with an eye popping 1.22 ERA while hitters struggled to pick up hits against him with just a .205 opponent's average. He was dominant during his outing at the 2025 Central California Preseason All State and then again during his outing at the 2025 National Program Invite in Georgia.

Casey utilizes a crossfire delivery and a low 3/4 arm slot while pumping strikes at a high rate with quality stuff that has deception making him difficulty to find success against. The FB for Casey comes in at 81-83 MPH consistently at present while topping out at 84 MPH. His FB shape plays to a arm side running sinker that has an average of 14+" of run to the arm side that plays under barrels for soft contact on the ground, but he is adept at elevating the offering when needed above the zone to collect chase/whiff on the offering at or above the zone. His CHG is his primary off-speed offering and the pitch features velocity separation off his FB living at 74-77 MPH while generating similar arm side movement to the FB with heavy vertical separation off the FB to induce whiff/soft contact from hitters. His breaking ball has been steadily developing, and he showed a 72-73 MPH offering he utilized at the Central California Preseason All State to bury in on RH hitters or down and away from LH hitters while using it effectively during the spring high school season.

Casey is a wiry lean 6'1 160 lbs. frame at present with broad shoulders and high hips that has the potential for adding strength in the future as he matures. His operation down the mound is clean and consistent with the type of movements that projects a long-term starter profile. He has found high levels of success with his quality stuff, feel to pitch, mix speeds, change locations and attack hitters with confidence from his deceptive arm slot. As the stuff for Casey continues to tick up with future strength gains the profile for him has an interesting upside and should have him as a name for college programs to keeping tabs on in the 2026 class.”

Steven Hardesty, Associate Director SoCal

Canada

+ Desmond Tregaskis, RHP (Delta Blue Jays HS, 2026) | Uncommitted :

“Tregaskis was arguably the top performer at the Canada Summer Games, helping Team BC capture the Gold Medal in Newfoundland. Physical on the mound at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Tregaskis sat in the 87-89 range (T90), while striking out 18 over 11 innings pitched and only giving up 1 earned run. There's feel to spin two different breaking-balls and rounds his arsenal up with a fading changeup. Tregaskis made his first appearance with the Team Canada Junior National Team in the fall in the DR working 2.2 innings allowing 0 runs while striking out 2. Also available as a 2027 recruit, Tregaskis took a huge leap this past year and shouldn't be uncommitted much longer. ”

Josh Arce, Canada Director

Colorado

(8/9/25)

+ Porter Peonio, RHP (Ralston Valley HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Peonio is a low slot right-handed arm with above average spin rates on both his fastball and slider combination. At 5'11'' / 151 Ibs, Peonio generates a fastball up to 85 mph with a max spin rate over 2,600 rpm. His slider comes with quality shape while the spin rate has been seen up to 2,851 in-game. At this summer's Colorado State Games, Peonio racked up 6 Ks in 2 innings of work, mixing in a strong FB, SL, CH, and SNK mix. ”

Caleb Dameron, Assistant Director

Florida

+ Adolfo Camacho, OF (North Broward Prep HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Camacho remains one of the top uncommitted bats in the 2026 class. At a physical 6’3”, 213 pounds, he’s a 6.8 runner with explosive lower-half strength that translates directly into loud raw power at the plate and an above average outfield arm that plays anywhere on the diamond.”

Rocco Iervasi, Director of Florida Operations

Illinois

(8/5/25)

+ Zach Toma , LHP/1B (West Aurora HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Toma's name was a mainstay in our daily roundup this past spring, seemingly making an impact one way or another in every game. He led his team in almost all offensive categories with a .457 average, .592 OBP, six home runs, a .739 slugging percentage and 38 RBIs. He also was the staff ace with a 1.07 ERA over 65.1 innings, striking out 99 to just 16 walks while only allowing 35 hits. The left-handed bat profiles in the middle of lineups with big power potential, also displaying this at our State Games over the summer with a homer in gameplay. On the mound, the southpaw competes in the zone with a mid/upper-80s fastball and changeup/curveball mix to pair, making him a real two-way threat still on the market. ”

+ Evan Adamczewski , 1B/OF (Maine South HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Adamczewski really made his name known across the state after his standout performance at the Illinois State Games this past summer. We had already known him to be a strong left-handed hitter that could run, but the bat really proved to be a notable tool after he went five-for-six with a home run, three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored against some of the top arms in the state - earning State Games MVP honors as a result. The present strength paired with his gap-to-gap ability makes him a threat at the plate any time he steps up, and there's also some present feel to hit with zone awareness and quality swing decisions - consistently getting good swings off at pitches in the zone. ”

Peter Hamot, Assistant Scouting Director Illinois/Wisconsin

Indiana

+ Chase Gothrup, RHP (Harrison HS (Lafayette) HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“With our 2027 rankings set to update later this month, Gothrup will be our top-ranked uncommitted RHP as we head into the winter. A Future Gamer last August, Gothrup did nothing but post each and every time our staff saw him in 2025, and the numbers reaffirm everything that our eyes saw. Amongst sophomores on varsity at the 4A level (Indiana's largest classification), Chase was near or at the top of every statistical category at the end of his 2025 campaign. His 6-1 record tied for the state lead amongst 4A sophomores, while also posting the 2nd-lowest ERA (1.17) amongst the same group. He finished 8th in strikeouts (43) amongst this group, as well, with that number even more impressive considering he only allowed 12 free passes over the course of his 42 innings of work. Gothrup finished the spring season with a sub-1 WHIP, and then went on to have an outstanding summer on the travel circuit as one of the most productive arms on his Indiana Bulls Black squad. Gothrup pairs some of the best pitch-ability we have identified in Indiana's 2027 class with quality stuff that continues to enhance in our follows. He boasts a fastball that has touched 89 mph with a potential wipeout breaking ball in the mid-70s that has spun north-of 2800 RPMs, and a low-80s change that he has plenty of feel for. The wiry, athletic, 6-foot-2, 170-pound multi-sport athlete will undoubtedly be one of the more coveted uncommitted prospects in the class as the new year turns over, with already a handful of interests/offers in his back pocket. ”

Cooper Trinkle, Scouting Director

Iowa

+ Pete Lebo, C/OF (Grundy Center HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Pete Lebo of Grundy Center, who is the 6th ranked catcher in the class, is going into his senior year after coming off a strong junior season where he hit .367 with an OPS of 1.157. Of his 29 total hits during the high school season, he tallied 3 home runs, 3 triples, and 6 doubles with 31 RBI's. Pete is an athletic catcher behind the plate with overall useable actions. In the box he shows flashes of pop with a consistent line drive swing and seeming to always find his barrel.”

Tyler Cropley, Scouting Director

Maine

(7/23/25)

+ Kyle Soule, INF/OF (Greely ( ME) HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Left-handed hitter, the bat has a chance to be special as he makes his way into the last two years of high school. The foot speed is good and he has versatility defensively. The makeup and work ethic are very good. ”

Dennis Healy, New England Scouting Director

Minnesota

+ Cooper Caliguiri, C/RHP (Mounds View HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“A dual position bat who offers strong roster flexibility, Caligiuri is an intriguing uncommitted name. He carries an athletic build, plus arm strength, and quality catch and throw skills behind the plate. With strength in the barrel and a mid to upper 80s fastball on the mound, the top remaining backstop on the board can impact the game in multiple ways.”

Andy Judkins, State Director

Nebraska

+ Noah Carrol, RHP (Millard South HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Top Uncommitted Senior heading into the 2026 spring. Battled through the injury bug last year still striking out 36 batters in 2025 giving up just 9 walks and 1 exra base hit in 34 innings pitched. Some two way upside with strength in his swing with present pull side juice with his upside coming more on the mound at the next level”

Pascal Paul, Nebraska Scouting Director

New York

+ Ayden Roman, C/3B (Archbishop Molloy HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Roman brings high-level athleticism to the field, standing at 5-foot-10, 185 pounds and posting a sub-7.00 60 this summer. He performed every time we saw him, with the hit tool shining brightest at the Senior Future Games at LakePoint, where he led Team NY in hits and showcased advanced bat-to-ball skills. He produces easy bat speed paired with plus rotational acceleration, and his fluid swing stays through the zone with intent—signaling even more power on the way.

Defensively, Roman owns an 80 mph arm from behind the plate with showcase pop times as low as 1.82. He also flashed versatility at the Senior Future Games, playing an above-average third base and making multiple plays on the move with strong, accurate throws. A well-rounded, dynamic athlete with impact tools on both sides of the ball.”

Joe Walentin, Scouting Director

North Dakota

+ Mason Palmer, SS/RHP (Devils Lake HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“An interesting middle infielder out of Devils Lake, North Dakota, Palmer immediately caught attention with a 90 mph arm across the infield. A younger-looking frame, average movements, and strong metric numbers make him an intriguing follow out of the state.”

Andy Judkins, State Director

Oregon

(10/3/25)

+ Cameron Hyder, OF (McMinnville HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Hyder was one of the best players at the 2025 West Coast Games, held at Loyola Marymount University this October. The athletic outfielder set several new personal-bests metrically while performing in-game as well, capping off his strong 2025. Hyder posted a 6.76 60-time while delivering crisp, consistent BP rounds, peaking with a 99.2 MPH EV while averaging 95.7 MPH. The athleticism carries to the outfield, where he can be a plus defender at all three OF positions. The 15th ranked player in his state class remains one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state.”

Dylan Grenz, Associate Scout

South Carolina

+ Johnny Compton, SS (Indian Land HS HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“6-1 188 lbs. frame. Johnny posted some impressive numbers, highlighted by the day’s top infield velocity at 89 mph. He also recorded a max exit velocity of 97.5 mph during batting practice with a peak exit distance of 357 feet, and turned in a 6.81 laser-timed 60-yard dash.”

Sammy Esposito, State Director

Texas

+ Blake Quinn, 1B (Calallen HS HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Quinn is a strong, physical presence at 6’6” and 230 pounds yet moves well for his size. He posted a 7.33 in the 60-yard dash and demonstrated both foot speed and agility at first base. Defensively, he shows a solid arm with throws up to 86 mph across the diamond, while also displaying quick release and accuracy on short throws during double play turns.

Offensively, Quinn’s biggest strength is his bat. He uses his hands effectively, turns the barrel with authority, and consistently stays inside the baseball, driving balls to the left center gap. He also shows the ability to pull with backspin, producing notable power. His swing generates good pop, and he appears comfortable handling velocity.

Overall, Quinn projects as a valuable addition for the right program, combining size, athleticism, and offensive upside.”

Kyle Kilgo, South Texas Area Scout

Washington

+ Gavin Clark, RHP/INF (Jackson HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Clark put together a strong year across multiple showcase looks, first at PNW Preseason All-State and later at PNW State Games. The medium-framed righty features heavy torque with an ultra high-slot release on a heater that was run up to 91 MPH. The righty can manipulate his release slot when throwing his CB/SL, and also has a high-70's CH with fading action as well. Clark was limited on the mound in spring but performed well at State Games, inducing swing and miss with overpowering stuff and an aggressive approach on the mound. Clark is also a 7 second runner in the 60 and has posted mid-90's exit velocities at the dish. The Jackson arm is one of the top remaining uncommitted seniors in the state.”

Dylan Grenz, Associate Scout

Wisconsin

+ Carter Fry, CF (Wisconsin Lutheran HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“We saw Fry a number of times over the year and he constantly produced both at the plate and looked the part as a center fielder at the next level. There's some present bat-to-ball ability and showed the ability to barrel up velo throughout the year to pair with sneaky power from the wiry outfielder. 6.44 runner with game speed that shows up on the bases and in center.”
