As the calendar flips deeper into summer and recruiting boards across the country start to crystallize, all eyes inevitably turn to the premier underclass event in the nation: Prep Baseball’s Future Games. With more than 400 college coaches in attendance annually and rosters loaded with uncommitted underclassmen, the event has become the proving ground for the next wave of impact players. But before athletes earn the right to don their state colors in LakePoint, they must first prove themselves through the Future Games Trials—and few states bring the firepower like the Lone Star State.

Below a look at 20 players who made an impact on Shooter Hunt’s trip to the Texas Future Games Trials:

Hank Rippy SS / 2B / Hyde Park, TX / 2027

Rippy stole the show at the event as his loose, left-handed stroke effortlessly pummeled balls with exit velocities above 104 mph in batting practice including providing a glimpse of effortless loft and majestic power potential. Emphasizing his upside, the wiry-athletic 6-foot, 170-pound shortstop took some of the best at-bats of the day, covering the plate with natural barrel accuracy and a relaxed approach that still produced some thunder. Setting up in an athletic crouch, the weight shifts to the back side with an early reverse toe-tap that allows the hands to flow to a power position before tightly working in a phonebooth with some explosiveness of the hands and bat speed. There is a real chance to hit with a considerable amount of strength yet to be developed. Perhaps even more impressive was the defensive display that Rippy put on during game play. Soft hands and skilled glovework allowed a strong arm to play with carry, and a charging slow roller that he went backhand on with eye-opening glove-to-hand, was one of the more sensational plays that he made look routine.
