Huntsville Summer ID: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

MADISON, AL - The Huntsville Summer ID was held on Tuesday, June 24th at James Clemens High School in Madison, AL. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2026-2030 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using VALD Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Continuing our post-event coverage, we take an in-depth look at a select number of standouts from Tuesday's event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

+ RHP Weston Todd (Madison Academy, 2028) continues to insert himself into the discussion of being one of the better arms in Alabama's 2028 class. A 6-foot-1, 179-pounder, Todd offers up a four-pitch mix, highlighted by a riding 86-88 mph FB that shows quality glove-side command and consistent arm-side run of 15 in. or greater. To compliment, he features a bullet SL at 77-78 mph that showcases firm, horizontal bite with tunneling action off the FB. Also mixes in a CT and a CH, both in the low-80s with solid traits as secondary offerings. Quick, whippy arm out of H 3/4 slot. Going to be a name to follow closely over the next year.

+ 3B Braxton Williams (Sparkman, 2027) is one of the more physical bats in Alabama's 2027 class and put the strength on display during this event. Measuring in at 6-foot-1, 213-pounds with still plenty of room to add, Williams possesses massive power upside using the physicality and strength on an upward path through contact. The swings show strong, explosive hands with controlled aggression and the intention of doing damage to the pull-side gap with each swing. Consistent barrels with top EV of 94.6 mph. A multi-year starter competing at the Class 7A level for the past couple of years.

+ SS Chase Utley (Whitesburg Christian, 2028) showcases a smooth, polished left-handed stroke that continues to flash more added strength in each viewing. Now 5-foot-11, 151-pounds with a lean, athletic frame, Utley still has plenty of room for projection and growth, but is already showing the advanced and athletic skills to pair with down the road. A unique left-handed stance with an inward front-foot turn, Utley quickly works to square and is on-time with each pass, consistently barreling up line drives to all parts of the field. The swing is clean and repeatable with more pop coming down the line. Posted a top EV of 94.3 mph.

+ OF Charlie Hare (Springville, 2027) enjoyed a strong overall performance, showing off some quality tools throughout various points of the showcase. A 6-foot-1, 181-pounder, Hare showcases an athletic build with present proportional strength throughout, which shows up in a variety of ways. Offensively, the right-hander possesses impressive bat speed to lead a whippy, heavy barrel to the point of contact. Frequent loud contact to the pull-side during BP, posting a top EV of 97.0 mph. Also ran a 7.01 60-yard dash and was up to 86 mph from the OF.

+ INF Liam Tomalty (Randolph, 2026) is a spark-plug type player with athletic, top-of-the-order traits as a high-contact right-handed bat. Listed at 5-foot-7, 136-pounds, Tomalty is athletic and twitchy with his movements while displaying impressive barrel skills from the right side of the plate. A current line-drive approach, shows the ability to manipulate the barrel some while staying mostly on a level path through contact. Consistent all-fields contact, peaking at 91.7 mph. Also clocked a 6.79 60-yard dash during the workout.

+ 3B John David Bailey (Athens, 2026) was another standout during the offensive portion of the workout, showcasing some impressive pull-side pop from a 6-foot-0, 182-pound build. Using a controlled, hanging leg kick for timing, Bailey possesses plenty of present whip and bat speed in the swing. Flashed impressive impact ability with a top EV of 97.8 mph and a max distance of 391 ft. Creates some extension out front and ball comes off the barrel hard with the swing gets synced up. Also ran a 7.27 60-yard dash.

+ OF Leyton West (James Clemens, 2030) may have been one of the youngest players in attendance, but that didn't stop him from making a quick impression to our staff. Measuring in at 6-foot-0, 163-pounds, the rising eighth-grader is projectable with a lean, athletic build. One of the first hitters to take BP, West consistently peppered the pull-side with barreled line drives using a clean, fluid path that works on an upward path. Utilizes a short, direct move to the baseball and hits off of a firm back-side. Also ran a 7.43 60-yard and was up to 77 mph from the OF, all well above-average numbers for a 2030 prospect.
