Orange County Summer ID: Catcher Analysis

On June 4th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Orange County Summer ID at Hart Park in Orange, Cal. This is an open event for high school classes (2026-29), and gives our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.

38 players made their way to Hart Park and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.

Today, we will be looking at all of the catcher’s scouting reports:

TOP CATCHERS

1. Slayder Garrido, Santa Margarita Catholic High School (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: C/OF Catcher with developing strength, clean receiving actions behind the dish, and a consistent barrel.
Body: 5-11, 163.6 pounds. Lean frame with room to grow.
Hit: RHH. Knees slightly bent, balanced. Flat bat, slow and controlled load. Vertical load, short path, and two-hand finish. Looks to hit the ball in the air. 57.8 mph bat speed with 16g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (78.1 avg.); 334-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 78.00 mph. Medium arm circle, high 3/4 slot. Had occasional tendencies for throws to miss SS side of the bag.
Defense: 2.00-2.16 pop time range; One knee setup, soft hands, works below the baseball.
Athletic Testing: 7.30 runner in the 60-yard dash.
