2025 Future Games: A Blast Motion Deep Dive
August 8, 2025
Every summer, the Future Games serves as the proving ground for the nation’s top uncommitted prep prospects. A stage built not on potential alone, but on the ability to stand out against elite peers in front of a national audience. In today’s data-rich baseball landscape however, it’s no longer just about what a player does on the field – it’s about how they do it.
With thousands of swings captured throughout the 2025 Future Games, we now have a detailed, measurable profile of each athlete’s offensive tools. Prep Baseball tracks four primary Blast Motion metrics – Bat Speed, Rotational Acceleration, On Plane Efficiency, and Peak Hand Speed. These help us assess what the eye may not immediately catch: a hitter’s physical ceiling, biomechanical efficiency, and developmental trajectory.
What follows is a comprehensive breakdown of each metric category, how they correlate with performance, and the players who most consistently demonstrated tools that translate. Whether you’re a college recruiter, on a pro scouting or player development staff, or interested fan, this is your look at the top Blast performers at the 2025 Future Games.
BLAST’S CORE METRICS
Before we assess individual performers, it’s critical to understand the value and application of each metric and average and top numbers at each level.
BAT SPEED
Definition: The velocity of the bat barrel at contact, measured in miles per hour (mph).
Why It Matters: Higher bat speed increases exit velocity potential and improves a hitter’s ability to drive the ball with authority. It is the foundational predictor of raw power.
Benchmarks for top recruits:
- Elite: 73-plus mph
- Above-Average: 69-72 mph
- Developmental: Below 65 mph (depending on age/class)
ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION
Definition: Measures how quickly (forcefully) a hitter’s bat accelerates into the swing (measured in Gs).
Why It Matters: High RA allows hitters to delay their swing decisions and still generate a high level of power—a crucial skill against velocity and pitch sequencing. It brings down time to contact and is a player’s power ceiling.
Benchmarks:
- Elite: 17g or higher
- Competitive: 12-16.9g
- Work on it: Below 12g
On-Plane Efficiency% (OPE)
Definition: The percentage of the swing in which the bat barrel is on the same plane. Paired with a positive attack angle, it will keep the bat “on the ball” for a longer period of time.
Why It Matters: High OPE indicates an efficient swing and usually more opportunity for contact. It improves barrel control and raises both batting average and contact quality.
Benchmarks:
- Elite: 80% or higher
- Very Good: 70-79%
- Needs Improvement: Below 60%
Peak Hand Speed
Definition: Maximum speed of the hands during the swing.
Why It Matters: High hand speed allows for better reaction time, quicker barrel path initiation, and effective swing adjustments, especially against advanced pitching.
Benchmarks:
- Elite: 23-plus mph
- Strong: 20-22.9 mph
- Developing: <18 mph

BREAKOUTS AT THE 2025 FUTURE GAMES 💥
Across thousands of swings and multiple games from the Senior Future Games (Class of 2026), Future Games (2027), and Junior Future Games (2029-2030), trends emerged, and many of the top showcase players from a Blast standpoint executed on the field in games as their metrics may have hinted.
Let’s explore the metric-by-metric breakdown.
BAT SPEED LEADERBOARDS
Bat Speed is the first standard for evaluating power. The top bat speed performers at the 2025 Future Games didn’t just show well in testing, they also delivered on the field. Hector Cadena (United HS, TX, 2027) nearly led all hitters with an elite 84.43 mph bat speed and he backed it up with four hits and a home run during gameplay.

Easton Brunson (83.41; Goose Creek HS, TX, 2027) and Emmett Brown (82.75; Glacier Peak HS, WA, 2027) both had a pair of hits, with Brown adding a long ball in gameplay. Sebastian Castillo (81.75; Byron Nelson HS, TX) earned Future Games MVP honors with five hits including a home run and a double, showcasing one of the event’s most complete offensive performances. Ian Evert (81.67; Seaholm HS, MI, 2027) and Tavis Honeycutt (81.28; Newberry HS, FL, 2027) each recorded multiple hits, with Honeycutt tallying two doubles and Honeycutt with one double on three hits. Across the board, this group combined standout Blast Motion metrics with real in-game production.

Rotational Acceleration Leaderboards
Several hitters stood out at the 2025 Future Games for their elite rotational acceleration, a key Blast Motion metric that some consider predictive of next-level success. Andrew Bezak (Our Lady of Good Counsel HS, MD, 2027) topped the leaderboard at 34.38 g and backed it with four hits, including a triple. AJ Hogart (31.94; University Heights HS, KY, 2027) delivered the most complete line with five hits — three for extra bases — including two doubles and a home run.

Berrin Zenner (33.98; Franklin Road HS, TN, 2027) flashed explosive rotation with two hits and a double, while Cruz Garcia (32.09; Brent International HS, CA, 2027) added a pair of knocks of his own. Grant Stafford (30.08; Lufkin HS, TX, 2027) filled up the box score with two hits and five walks, showing a disciplined approach at the plate. These rotational leaders combined good movement, strength, and mechanics with strong results, reinforcing their offensive upside.

On-Plane Efficiency% Leaderboards
Among all Blast Motion metrics, on-plane efficiency% (OPE) is the most directly tied to bat-to-ball skills. Players with an OPE rating above 80 percent rarely miss their pitch. It reflects swing adjustability, plane matching, and consistent, repeatable contact, all essential traits for hitting in-game pitching. Several hitters proved that true at the 2025 Future Games.
Jayden Montanez (Brunswick HS, CT, 2027) led the way at 91.42% on-plane efficiency and collected three hits in-game. Nolan Rolloff (90.27%; Owatonna HS, MN, 2027), Ryker Mahnke (90.00%; Lawrence Free State HS, KS, 2027), and Landon Klee (89.91%; Camdenton HS, MO) each posted elite scores while each recording two hits during gameplay. Their consistency at the plate matched the data, proving that being on-plane can be a path to production.

OUR FINAL TAKE
The 2025 Future Games once again affirmed that Blast Motion data is both informative and predictive. Hitters like Castillo, Bezak, Cadena, and Hogart each tested well at the event's workout day, and went on to perform at a high level in-game. Their Blast profiles translated into offensive impact during live competition, reinforcing the value of these metrics in real-world scouting and player development environments.
For coaches, this data provides validation, or even a necessary challenge, to what the eye perceives. For players, it offers a clear roadmap for growth, transforming raw metrics into actionable goals. From a development standpoint, it establishes a baseline and becomes the foundation of a structured training plan. With regular retesting, players can track measurable progress and determine whether their current approach is producing the desired results. And for evaluators, it sharpens the lens through which talent is assessed, bringing greater clarity and objectivity to the scouting process.
Prep Baseball remains committed to delivering actionable insights into player potential. We’re proud to be collaborating with the scouts and staff at Prep Baseball to provide these tools, insights, and of course these names, to the coaches and programs looking to build the future.
A huge thanks to Prep Baseball on behalf of Blast Motion and WIN Reality for letting us be a part of the 2025 Future Games.
