2026 OUTLOOK

+ Wheeler enters the 2026 season looking to take a step forward after an 8–16 finish and a first-round playoff appearance in Class 1A. Under head coach Carter Swinney, the Eagles return a small but competitive core that has logged meaningful varsity experience, particularly on the mound, giving the program a foundation to build on as it navigates District 1-1A.

The lineup will lean heavily on versatility and two-way production. Brady Cobb returns as the centerpiece of the roster after leading the team in innings pitched and strikeouts in each of the last two seasons, while also contributing as an infielder. Cobb’s durability and competitiveness set the tone for the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Brayden Edwards adds athleticism in the outfield and gives Wheeler another arm capable of handling innings when needed, while Lucas Hall provides stability and depth in the outfield.

One of the more intriguing storylines for Wheeler is the emergence of a young core, led by 2029 Caleb Brown. Despite his age, Brown already brings value as a catcher, shortstop, and right-handed arm, projecting as a cornerstone piece for the future and a player who could impact games immediately. Fellow freshman Eli Mears adds another young arm to the staff, giving Wheeler developmental upside on the mound.

With a roster built around multi-positional athletes and a growing group of underclassmen, Wheeler will look to gain consistency and depth throughout the season. If the Eagles can continue to develop their young pieces and get production from their two-way leaders, they have an opportunity to make strides in Class 1A and position themselves for long-term growth within the program.
