TEAM OUTLOOK
The Newton Rams won their most games in a season since 2000 along with making a postseason berth a year ago and now return multiple key pieces in '26. It all starts at the top with Houston commit and senior RHP/IF Chris Guillory leading the way on the mound. Guillory lives in the low 90's with pitchability and plenty more to project in a lean 6-foot-4 frame. The right-hander will shoulder significant innings as he looks to give Newton reliable starts each time out. Two upperclassmen in senior RHP Josh Brown Jr. and junior RHP Ja’ Coren Weaver will be pivotal pieces behind Guillory in the rotation as they hold crucial experience and look to produce key innings. The offense is anchored by IF/OF Jayce Yearwood, an uncommitted senior who boasts present tools coupled with strong projection in a wiry 6-foot-2 frame and twitch throughout. Yearwood provides consistency to both sides of the ball and brings tons of athleticism to the lineup along with offering high-level defensive value at multiple positions. Another versatile uncommitted senior for Coach Jordan is Robert ‘38’ Jackson III who strengthens the lineup with quality bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate along with present above-average speed. Switch-hitter and uncommitted '26 OF Tu’Marion Flounory brings high-level bat-to-ball skills to the lineup and versatility defensively. Senior leadership comes in the way of uncommitted backstop C Kurt Campbell who rounds out a strong senior class. He is equipped with a high IQ and supplies quality defense at a premium position and possesses easy power to the pull-side from a potent right-handed cut. Uncommitted junior SS Kendall Turner gives lockdown defense up-the-middle at the 6 and provides a massive hit/speed threat to the top-of-the-order. 2027 OF/C Devontae Hardeman gained invaluable experience last year as he earned 2nd team all region honors and will be a reliable piece in the heart of the offense. Two uncommitted juniors in 3B Caleb Cox and 1B Jerrell Martin polish off the offense and look to yield consistent sticks in the corner infield spots. Head Coach Delvin Jordan expects this to be a breakout year for the Rams as they are ready to make a run in region play and into the playoffs. On paper this is a deep roster led by an experienced veteran group with all the pieces in place for a favorable year in 2026.
