2026 Pleasant Grove Spartans Team Preview

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK
Pleasant Grove enters the 2026 season looking to build off an 11-16 campaign in 2025 that saw the Spartans finish as area runner-up before falling to Bibb County in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. With a core group of experienced starters returning and several younger players stepping into expanded roles, Pleasant Grove heads into the spring aiming to be more competitive throughout Class 4A Area 7.
The Spartans return several multi-year contributors who anchor both the lineup and pitching staff. SS/RHP Timothy Blue (2026) returns as a four-year starter and a central piece of the team on both sides of the ball. INF/RHP Brandon Whatley (2026) also brings four years of varsity experience and provides stability in the infield while logging innings on the mound. In the outfield, OF Amaury Webster (2026) returns as an experienced option expected to handle a key defensive role while hitting near the top of the lineup. The underclass group adds depth and development potential across the field. C/INF Christian Fikes (2027) continues to grow into the catching role after gaining experience last season, while 1B/RHP Jordan Walker (2028) returns after transitioning to first base and is expected to handle the position moving forward. Younger contributors include INF Braylon Washington (2029), C Timothy Harris (2029), OF Darrell Kelley (2030), and OF Travis Green (2031), all of whom are projected to see varsity time and help fill everyday roles in the lineup. On the mound, Pleasant Grove will rely heavily on returning experience. Blue (2026) and Whatley (2026) lead the pitching staff, with Harris (2029) providing additional innings as a younger arm gaining varsity experience. With a mix of experienced seniors and developing underclassmen, the Spartans will continue to define roles as the season progresses.
Experience stands out as a defining strength for Pleasant Grove entering 2026. With a solid core of returning starters and a growing group of younger contributors, the Spartans head into the season focused on competing consistently and building on last year’s postseason appearance in Class 4A Area 7.
