Prep Baseball Report

Which pitchers/two-ways stood out this fall?

By: Andy Sroka
National Managing Editor, Scouting

The ‘Hotlist’ is a series that provides weekly insight into the high school baseball scene spanning the country, curated by Prep Baseball’s state directors who are situated nationwide, with vital intel on the prospects who are in their own backyards. Each week, we’ll publish our ‘Hotlist’ on varying topics that are timeliest to the national baseball calendar at that point in time.

This week’s topic: This week, we’re highlighting Fall Standouts. Please submit a pitcher or two-way prospect(s) from your state that stood out this fall, including the event you saw them and what stood out (big statistical performer, a player who showed well in game, or someone who made a name for themselves late in the year).

Note: Due to the number of submissions this week, we're separating The Hotlist into two stories, a position player and pitcher/two-way story.

♨️ The ‘Hotlist’ (10/16):

Alabama

+ Bryant Hopkins, RHP (Valley HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“RHP Bryant Hopkins (Valley, 2027) is a recent Future Gamer who’s quickly vaulted into the upper-tier of the ’27 class. Athletic 6-0, 173-pound frame with a smooth, effortless delivery and advanced four-pitch mix. FB 86-88, T88.5 with late life/tail and consistent strikes. True separator is feel for spin: CB (70-73, T2937 RPM) with depth/vertical action & SL (73-75, T2851 RPM) with heavy sweep (-20.9 in. HZM), both showing swing-and-miss traits. Also flashes an 80 mph CH with late dive. Polished arsenal and big-time arm talent college recruiters need to be on early”

David Sharp, Deep South Supervisor

Arizona

(8/3/25)

+ Will Gnirk, LHP (Chaparral HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Will made a strong impression at the West Coast Games, striking out six batters across four innings while topping at 87 mph with -18 inches of horizontal movement on the fastball. He paired it with a sharp slider that he commanded well, keeping hitters off balance throughout his outing. The left-hander first caught our eye at an Open ID, where he earned an invite to WCG and made the most of the opportunity. With a 6'3, 180-pound frame and room to add strength, Will presents significant upside and remains a name to follow closely moving forward.”

+ Raydon Rocha, SS/RHP (Mica Mountain HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Raydon made a strong impression this fall, first standing out at his high school’s Scout Day before earning a spot at the West Coast Games. The athletic 2026 displayed smooth, confident actions in the field and a poised, competitive presence on the mound where he was up to 89. His fluid movements and overall athleticism make him one of the more intriguing two-way prospects to follow heading into the spring.”

Antonio Torres, Arizona Director

California

+ Wylan Rottschafer, SS/RHP (Costa Mesa HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“Rottschaffer has stood out to our staff going back to the 2024 West Program Invite where he was arguably the best player on a loaded roster for his club team. He backed that look up with another standout performance at the Preseason All-State and a big spring for Costa Mesa HS. Fast forward to the California State Games in July, and Rottschaffer's bat and defense was at the top of the list of all attendees finishing with multiple extra base hits over three games while playing stellar defense up the middle of the infield. Rottschaffer made his way onto Team California for the West Coast Games where he once again was arguably the best defensive and offensive player. Whether is was peppering the gaps, or moving runners over, Rottschaffer was on the barrel all weekend. He made multiple highlight plays from every position on the infield.

Rottschaffer has established himself as one of the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2026 from California. He's a player who just a few years ago is likely to already be off the recruiting board, but in today's recruiting world he's likely to a late senior commit. However, no matter the program he ultimately lands at, Rottschaffer is going to immediately make an impact on both sides of the ball.”

Les Lukach, California State Director

Florida

+ RJ Shields, RHP (Venice HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Shields threw well at the Florida State Games with two shutout innings and racked up six strikeouts. Shields sat 92-94 with his fastball and showed a wipeout slider. Shields was named MV-Pitcher of the event.”

Rocco Iervasi, Director of Operations

Georgia

(10/10/25)

+ Bryce Floyd, RHP (Holy Innocents HS, 2028) | Uncommitted:

“Floyd has been the definition of dominate this fall. He has struck out 75% of the batters he has faced. He has been on our radar the last year or so, but he has really leveled up with a fastball that has gotten up to 91. We saw him mid to upper 80's this summer, but carrying the velocity into the summer has been really eye opening with a plus slider that could make some real noise this spring. ”

Hudson Graham, Scouting Director

Hawaii

+ Dayton Micheal Hanson, RHP/OF (Kamehameha HS, 2028) | Uncommitted:

“Hanson - The Prep Baseball Verified, 6-foot-5, 201.7 lbs. sophomore has had a significant rise over the last two years, coming into his sophomore campaign where after a standout Super Sophomore Games where he announced his presence as a player to know in that class, not only on regionally, but nationally. Racking up four extra base hits during the event, he showed off his ability to drive the ball to all fields with a TrackMan Exit Velocity of 101.4 mph, but Hanson shined on the mound where he threw three scoreless innings, running his fastball up to 85.9 mph with tightened slider that proved effective as it tunneled off his fastball, striking out 6 of his 10 batters faced. Expect this name to continue to trend over the next year into a big Summer where he will be on more than a few team’s radars. ”

Brett Harrison, West Coast Supervisor

Illinois

(9/14/25)

+ Kaeden Schatsiek , RHP/UTIL (Brimfield HS, 2026) | Illinois State :

“Schatsiek has been steadily on the rise since the summer and shows no signs of slowing down. A recent Illinois State commit, Schatsiek jumped 30 spots in our rankings to No. 10 after an eye-opening showing at our State Games in August - impressing with a fastball up to 92 mph and triple-digit exit velocities at the plate. We got to see him again in the fall, particularly at the Grand Park Fall Championships, and he was once again turning heads as a two-way with a low-90s fastball and real raw power at the plate (105 mph EV in-game with wood). The big right-hander will be a name to continue to follow closely moving forward, and he has a chance to garner some pro interest moving forward. ”

Peter Hamot, Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois/Wisconsin

Kentucky

+ Preston Jolly, SS/RHP (DuPont Manual HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“After a so so High School season the light turned on for the 2027 two way in the summer and fall. Jolly possesses some of the best athleticism and tools that are still on the board. Jolly found himself all over the leader boards at the State Games finishing in the top 5 on distance, exit velocity, and 60 time. Quick hands, electric bat speed and ability to drive the ball all over the yard coming from a 6' 167 pound frame that has plenty of room to add. Jolly also flashes some ability on the bump working a Fastball up to 86 mph and a vicious sweeping slider that creates a ton of swing and miss to both sides of the plate. High academic, character, and work ethic that checks a lot of boxes make Jolly a must see this Spring. Expect a big Junior year from the Crimsons two way.”

Jamie Tessoff, Scouting Director

Michigan

+ Ethan Byrd, RHP (West Ottawa HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Ethan jumped on the scene during the Western Prospect Games earlier this month. Features and athletic build and good movement/athletiscm on the mound with a short, quick arm that ran it up to 90 in live game play garnering a handful of strike outs. Fairly raw with his best baseball ahead of him.”

Adam Goodwin, Michigan Scouting Director

Minnesota

+ Ethyn Cantin, RHP (Becker HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Cantin has made significant strides over the last 8 months and is poised to be an arm to look for heading into the spring high school season. Previously, an 82-84 mph fastball that now has jumped to 87-90 mph and topping at 91.6 mph seen most recently at a Fall ID event. Not only has the fastball taken off, but also Cantin's slider. A pitch that has improved in multiple ways with more movement, higher spin, and thrown harder into the low 80s. An average build at 6-foot, 177-pounds, a big offseason could springboard the righty as one of the top fastball velos in the class”

Andy Judkins, State Director

Nebraska

(7/22/25)

+ Rowen Scholting, RHP (Millard West HS, 2026) | Nebraska:

“A top performer at the Summer ID, Scholting topped 90.2 mph on the mound with his long, 6-foot-4, 180-pound build. His showing earned him an invite to Atlanta for the Senior Futures Games and an eventual commitment to the University of Nebraska.”

+ Chance Kinman, RHP/OF (Omaha North HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Kinman showed two-way ability and as much helium as anyone in the 2027 class. At the Summer Review, he topped 89.3 mph on the mound, ran a 7.08 sixty, produced 90+ mph exit velocities, and showed an 86 mph arm from the outfield.”

+ Michael Novero, RHP (Creighton Prep HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Relatively unknown before his showing at the Summer Review, Novero’s fastball was the hardest of the event, topping at 89.7 mph. With present strength in his 6-foot-1, 225-pound frame, he’s a name to with some Helium heading into next spring”

+ Major Mosser, RHP (Millard North HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:

“With an easy-to-dream-on 6-foot-6, 190-pound frame, Mosser impressed at the August Summer Review with a fluid, connected delivery. He ran his fastball up to 89 mph, spun his slider at 2,620 rpm, and killed spin on his changeup (1,053 rpm), pounding the zone with all three pitches.”

+ Garrett Ringenberg, RHP (Elkhorn North HS, 2026) | Uncommitted :

“The Elkhorn North two-sport athlete showed up to the June Summer ID straight from football practice and still sat 86–88 mph on the mound. His physicality with raw arm strength point to substantial upside if he chooses to play baseball at the next level”

Pascal Paul, Scouting Director

North Carolina

+ Jesse May, RHP (Riverside HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“The tall, lanky right hander has turned heads this fall, seeing his fastball ramp up while paired with a solid slider and a high ceiling. Pitching for USA Prime at the Prep Baseball East Coast Fall Championships, May was up to 90 while limiting a lineup that had depth and athleticism. May is scheduled to be at the Prep Baseball NC Upperclass Top Prospect Games on Sunday October 19th.

Brandon Hall, Mid-Atlantic Supervisor

Texas

+ Cooper Knight, OF,1B, LHP (Buda Johnson High School HS, 2029) | Uncommitted:

“Very athletic player that moves well in the OF and 1B. Has quick twitch buggy whip at the plate (97 exit velo). 82mph in the infield and 88-89 on the mound. Has feel for spin with CB. ”

Kyle Kilgo, South Texas Area Scout

(9/19/25)

+ Dominic Naylor, 3B (Cedar Park HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Strong, physical build with room to add more. Has run a 6.87 60. Defensively shows developing actions with present arm strength. Aggressive swinger with the intent to do damage—posted a 103.4 exit velo. Consistent hard contact with pull-side power. Stays in the infield long term with a strong bat/power profile.

On the mound, there is some size and projection. Fastball sits 87-90, topping 91, with ride at the top of the zone (2300+ rpm). Curveball at 72-73 shows depth and spin over 2500 rpm. Changeup shows arm-side run. Athleticism and arm speed stand out, with upside on both sides of the ball.”

Wisconsin

+ Derrik Beckstrand, RHP/CIF (Elkhorn HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:

“Imposing and physical 6-foot-4 frame with easy feel to repeat an athletic delivery. Fastball works in the zone, and has even ticked up into the upper-80s since the summer now holding velocity over longer outings with feel for a larger two-plane breaking ball that looks like a potential out-pitch in the future.”
