As I begin this entry of Recruiting Essentials, understand that I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I envision the next couple of paragraphs of this blog to be scrolling at a 45 degree angle up to the top of your screen in a large yellow font.  While I don’t have the technical ability to accomplish that feat, in my mind this is how it is happening.

The NCAA Strikes Back

For many years the college baseball coaches across the country have operated within a set of rules guided by the NCAA.  Those rules include when they can call prospects, how visits to campus should operate, and how many times a coach can evaluate a player in a given school year.  With college coaches becoming more and more clever, every year, in ways to circumvent the rules established by the NCAA, the NCAA feels the need to re-establish itself and make a mark on the recruiting process.

College coaches across the country have felt a need for change as well, but the ability to get coaches from different regions, and climates, to agree on a recruiting calendar has been problematic.  This past November a panel of coaches met in Charlotte, NC to provide the National Baseball Coaches Association (NBCA) some thoughts and guidelines on pursuing adjustments to the recruiting calendar.
